Here is a video I did showing how to disassemble a DSE901 Battery w/o killing any Parts (too bad) with commentary on certain sections. May help some people understand what is going on with the "magical stick" that gives us our nicotine dosage for the day. Or may just ease some inquiring minds as to what is really in there.

Thanks! I had only been able to use destructive entry so far. I did try pulling it apart with an atomizer, but not working it back and forth. Came out in shreds. :)
If you have a small propane of butane torch you can heat up the battery connection to atomizer end to hot - NOT MELTING - then screw on a broken atomizer and push hard on the edge of a table to start the process. Just go slow and steady. Remember there is a little isolation gasket in the battery connection end piece and it can melt if it gets to hot - via solder or torch. I melted my first one just trying to solder to it.

Thanks madog. I really appreciate getting to see this, before I operate on mine! After seeing this, I just bet I am automatically drawing too hard on mine, thats probably why they keep auto cleaning all the time... huh.

Well it could be you are mistaking the auto clean - I think it is like a flash of the LED like 20 times with a "slow the HELL down" safety mode - like 10 flashing times of the LED. When to take like 16 puffs with in a minute - The batt will go into a like safety mode and flash 10 times. When yours is flashing does the the atomizer get REAL hot. IF so it is going into cleaning mode. This normally happens after like 1500 activations - The slow down cycle happens after the unit is activated like 16 times with in a minute - This cycle there will be NO heat from the atomizer. ( Basicly like HOT BOXing a analog) Safety reasons.

Thanks Madog for doing this video, I'm really new to this game but fascinated by what is inside/how things actually work and this is VERY informative. I'm giving this a 5-star rating.

All my kit is too new at present to consider dismantling it like this but if I decide to have a go sometime will try and find this thread again for guidance!

I'd already decided from looking at this forum that the Chinese manufacturers probably regard these as hi-tech 'toys' and therefore don't expect a useful lifespan to be part of the requirements.

One thing gives me hope - we have several of those key-ring laser pointers (toys for our cats, they love 'em) and the durability of these things is fairly awesome for an item you can get for 99p. Ditto the actual production of a laser beam from something so tiny!

If those nice guys in China can make e-cigs which work as well and last as long (and sell 'em for peanuts) I'll be very happy indeed but as everyone keeps on saying here...it's early days yet! :D

Just looking at this, a 901 battery and atomizer could be built to last almost forever with the right materials and a manual switch. I was looking at troggs screwdriver which is very creative but atomizers are still built so cheap. So much care has been put into simulating the smoking experience that we end up with this garbage.

They will never improve this. This type of construction forces you into a situation with consumable parts and consumable parts make money. Think ink cartridges and laptop batteries.

I work in a fairly geeky environment. Once some of my parts die I'm going to get a few heads at work to see how we might be able to improve this. Everything is so tiny though that it makes engineering very intimidating. That chip is so unnecessary it almost makes me angry. I bet that chip could be hooked up to a micro controller and given some new instructions lol.

The guys at work are wizards though. One of the guys recently soldered pins onto a mainboard for an extra usb connector without magnification under sunlight lol.

What if we start opensource project?

If it weren't for this video i probably wouldn't be attempting the battery pack mod i'm doing right now.
I found a radio shack (like THE SOURCE in europe) that actually has the small electronics you'd need to mod a battery of this type. I used madogs atomizer technique to remove the guts of the battery (MUCH harder than madog makes it look, he has strong-... hands dude) and i'm going to do the soldering later.

I got some rechargable aa's and a 4xaa battery holder w/on-off switch. A desoldering bulb, some wire, and heat shrink. The only problem i might have is i gotta drill a small hole in the e-cig battery casing for the wires to stick through, but i think this thing is gonna rock. I'll still be using the original pressure switch. I'll probably do a manual one a little later.
