Yeah and heat too.
What makes you think that can't happen on the coil of the e-cig? I wouldn't like even the possibility of this.

Science... the melting and boiling points of sodium chloride are ridiculously high (orders of magnitude higher than the temperatures produced by an e-cig coil), and getting it to melt is only the first step in separating it into sodium and chlorine. I don't think we need to be concerned with salt;)

salt is already present in some of the flavorings used in e-liquids.

I get my nic from RTS. All of my PG base orders have been crystal clear. I recently ordered 500 ml of VG base and it has a light amber tint to it but it has been my favorite bottle out of all of them. I was thinking if VG mutes flavors, it would probably have a lighter smell (I use 100 mg nic). I was right, at least with this first bottle of VG base. I like it much better than PG, even though it is more viscuous, it is so much smoother as far as taste and smell.

My first order from RTS was 100 nic, 60 nic and a 48 nic. All are yellowish (darker yellow for the higher nic strengths) and a
Musty smell (not sure how else to describe the smell, except maybe the word repulsive .) I figured this is normal but don't know any different since I never ordered nics from anywhere before. Just beginning to do DIY. I just placed a new order from RTS and it's in the mail, but did NOT order more nic base, just VG and other DIY supplies.
So, if I'm understanding correctly, VG nicontine base liquid is supposed to be yellowish with an odor? My VG (non nicotine) are clear thankfully.
I'm not liking the smell/taste coming off the DIY ejuice where I'm using the RTS nic bases......SO far, none of the DIY stuff I've made is any good. This is so disappointing. :(

If you are not happy with the product, voice your concern with the vendor. If you fail to get resolution from the vendor, chalk it up to experience.

To add, VG nic base should be clear, with no odor. I get mine from wizard labs and have not had it come any other way.

I have no idea where I'm at
I was reading a nic base comparison and someone put this thread link. After reading it reminded me of this thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...cussion/3204-ph-values-harshness-eliquid.html

Looking at the evidence, if you increase the acid content (lower the ph) then you are effectively lowering your nic. It appears that a ph of 8.3-8.6 is optimal, but of course the increased base (alkali) increased TH, but also increases nic absorption. As noted in the above link, even a difference of 1 ph can dramatically decrease ic absorption, hence to add acid, you will need to increase the nic %, but that raises the TH again.

I am going to start my own trials testing ph with base and mixed liquid. If my numbers work, then I may be able to use vinegar to smooth the liquid, but try and raise the nic enough to counter absorption loss and still minimize any additional TH so as to get the smoothness from adding vinegar but not sacrificing nic in the process. On the other hand, It might be interesting to add base to increase the nic absorption, but use less nic in the process, then a 100ml of 100mg would definitely last a long time.

Pffff, after reading for one night and one morning i ended up here...

Great thread this is!!! I'm going to try the vinegar and citric in my juices and see what difference this makes. What i learned so far:
- Citric adding 1-4 drops/5ml in fruity juices and other sweet and deserts, brightens up the flavor.
- Vinegar adding 1-4 drops/5ml in tobacco, mellows the flavors.
- Lor Ann Tart and Sour adding 1 drop/2ml gives body and sweetness with a hint of sour.
- Measuring the pH of juices is not a bad thing, for comparison reasons.
- It is not known yet how the above mentioned additions behave in larger batches (linear of exponentially).
- We still don't know the long term effects of these additives in juice (in lungs), but that counts for everything in a juice, except PG, VG and Nic.
- There was some more interesting information (but i can't remember after this long time. I really need some sleep now ;).
- Some guys and gals here on EFC make VERY GREAT contributions to the community, especially wanting to thank Pete for starting this thread.

Thanks again everybody that made good contributions to this thread. This is the kind of information that DIY'ers need. :)

Sleep well...

Definitely a subscription thread. Nice work to all who diligently worked on this.

Now, if only we could discover the "instant steep" additive... But that's for a different thread.

Wow... like Vappa, read this thing from front to back (took the better part of two days while at work... Shhh, don't tell the boss!!) and all I can say is that there is sooooo much excellent information contained here! This really SHOULD be a stickie, or at least linked in another stickie.

I've only just dipped my toes into the DIY pool, so to speak, but the flavors I've made thus far have all been flat or too strong, because I was trying to get the effect you are all talking about by adding more of the flavor, not realizing that wasn't how it worked. (Thanks for the blogs Hoosier, those helped immensely too!) My vapes run the gamut of coffee to tobaccos (555 style, as well as RY4) and some fruits (still looking for that "great peach"!!!)

I jsut want to thank each and every one of you for contributing to this, and making it an excellent discussion so full of great knowledge. There's so many of you, I wouldn't want to name anyone for fear of omitting someone.

So after reading the majority of this thread I see plenty of people using ACV or white distilled vineger... Couldn't find if there is any difference in the two and which one is preferred over the other. Is it just a matter of preference and does not really matter?

I added a few drops of ACV to a diy liquid that was nearly unvapable and it really helped, I am still waiting to try lemon juice. Anybody try using the juice from a freshly cut lemon instead of the juice from the bottle that looks like a lemon?

I'm sorry to post this here but didn't know where to.
What would happen I'd is add acv to a vendor juice? I have done tobaccos that me something else...
What will happen if I add it to halo Tribeca I would love to give it a boost

While it "should" help, regardless of where you got the juice from, it is still mostly subjective to the individual.

Also, remember, Less is More. Don't over do it.

Right behind you
I need to throw in here, completely off-topic, that every time this gets bumped, I pop in to read the very first post, and have this Alzheimer's moment like "vinegar? Really? Has anyone used it?? Haven't we discussed this a million...oh. This is from 2 years ago. And I have read it. Many times." (Slink away slowly....)

This should just be a sticky IMHO :))
