The nasty taste goes away a lot faster if you pull the silicone plug out, give it a gentle tilt to each side to wet the wicks, put the top on and vape for a bit without the plug. Seems like for me, the silicone plug inhibits some of the initial saturation of the coil. Once you vape a bit without the plug and the taste goes away, put the plug back on and you're good to go.

I'm still getting burning on the inner lip of the plug, the part that sits inside the cup on the VS3. I trimmed that piece on the VS2, but that created a problem with the cup flooding and getting juice down the air tube. It's trading one problem for another. The cup walls need to be higher so the coil is not so close to the silicone of the plug. Now, even the trimmed area of the VS2 is showing burn spots.
