ok has anyone ripped and replaced the rubber gromet on the vivi head if so what did you use or where did you get replacements. Or is it just a matter of ordering new heads?

I've ripped one. I kept using it as long as it stayed intact, but eventually replaced it with one from a used cartomizer. Went through 3 different cartos before I got one out without ripping it, though. There is generally a glob of solder in the back of the center pin in a carto that was difficult to pull through the grommet.

It was exactly the same size and shape as the vivi nova one, and is still in service. Seems to be more resistant to burning than the original one in the vivi nova, but not enough to keep me from going back to doubling the legs on the wire.

The only one I've found for sale are here:

510 Threaded Connector Insulators - Avid Vaper

Those are a bit bulkier, and make the center pin stick out farther, so may cause problems with the seal between the head and it's receptacle. Someone else tried them, but I can't remember where they posted about it.

I also took some out of old used cartomizers. I had some old 808 threaded cartos. It's the same size and they worked beautifully.

(reasons to keep old used up junk. You never know when you'll need a part )

Guys I did it!!!

In my dimly lit bedroom of all places. I just got my 2.5 nova in the mail so I thought the hell with it and rebuilt one of my v1 heads. A few wraps of kanthal... one wire down the center, the other squeezed between the rubber deal and the side. It's reading 2.3 ohms. Not the greatest vape by far but the thing actually works. I was just screwin around to see if I could do it.

Question, should I save my v1 heads to use on my new nova or is it not worth it?

I don't really like the way they did the new heads with the glass fiber sock around the legs. Otherwise, the changes are mostly inconsequential, and the old heads should still work fine in the new tanks. I use them in my rebuildable stardust with no problems, too.

Sweet I appreciate it.. I'm still thrilled i did it.. so easy..

What are the legs btw? Ha

I meant the legs of the wire, which you wedge between the rubber grommet, body, and center pin. The newer heads have a mesh tube made of some kind of glass fiber surrounding the legs of the wire.

I'm guessing it's to prevent shorts to the body, because the legs on the original coil were non-resistance wire soldered to the resistance wire, so no worries about hot legs in the factory-made heads.

Also had a narrower body in that area of the head, so I guess it makes it a bit narrower inside as well.

I understand,

Hopefully the newer heads don't make it much more difficult to rewick. If it causes me a lot of trouble I'll just continue rebuilding the three old heads that came with the v1.

Have six more vivi novas on the way so I decide to have some coils ready. I cut 10 pieces of 32 gauge 6.25 in long. I folded back 1 inch on each end and twisted for double legs. This leaves approx 2.25 inchs for the coil between the twisted legs and gives me a 2.4 ohm coil every time. 1.1 ohm per inch. Here is one wrapped on a candle wick. I wrap the twisted double leg right up on the wick and never get a hot spot.

nice work. how do you get your coils so neat. I have a hard time to get a 1.8 ohm coil in the cup without it touching the sides.

Has anybody done an A/B test of doubled legs and non-doubled legs? I ask because I'm just not seeing or otherwise getting any indication of a problem with the non-doubled legs. After several rebuilds, I'm not seeing any marks on the rubber grommets beyond the light discolorations found on the factory builds. Makes me wonder if the factory does some sort of a burn-in/resistance test that makes the slight marks in the first place.

I didn't take pictures or anything, but I recently replaced the grommet in one of my vivi nova heads with one from a regular carto, and tried it with no NR or doubled legs. It did give me a slight rubber taste some hours later. I suffered through it for several more hours until I got home, and there were burn marks on the grommet at the contact points.

My experience with the original factory head was a much worse taste. I was able to build it once or twice with no bad taste, without the NR or doubled legs, but I'm done taking the chance. It's pretty easy to double the legs, and at less than a penny per inch, I don't mind using an extra 1-1.5 inches.

The factory puts the silica sleeve in there to wet and keep the legs cooler, but since many of us do not want the possible health hazard of silica we don't put it back in. Doubling does keep the legs cooler, especially if you pump up the voltage. I had one grommet burn at 5 v and since then I do the double or 30g 999 silver wire legs.

Just bored out the holes on the neg post and the ones above the threads pn the 510 connector.

Its a slight better draw, but i was conservative with my drilling.. How big are the holes people are drilling too? I saw the .057 size, but im looking for a complete zero resistance draw... Maybe not possible?

Im using a provari v2 with a nova v2.4 with the new 2.5 heads. I run at 1.8 ohms and 3.0-3.2 v chain vape baby!
