Yes many of us have tried SS on the nova and many more using cotton, try a small cotton overwick on the stock setup, you may be surprised.

newbie here and just learning, is it just the gauge of the wire that is responsible for the different ohm ratings of the stock heads? or is it the length of the wire or both? I ask cuz I'll be using a unregulated 3.7 device. p.s. I just drilled out my nova and the airflow is much increased maybe alittle to much.

I got Vision Vivi Nova 3 is what vapor alley calls the 2.5 or what ever the heck the new on is called.
Using heavy now for 2 days with a 2.4ohm head. Was actually impressed with what I read about on the head issue and NR wires,
When this head dies was going to take it apart and see if the issue got fixed for real, unless someone else has done that.
Will still refer to this thread and recommend it to people, even when I get that silly all SS Kayfun3 tank from russia(the fill on monday on vape all week tank), well Im babbling now, this is an awsome post to help people get into rebuiling attys.

I made a U shaped instead. Basically the same "overwick" (i like that term BJ - did u patent it yet?) concept BJ shows but I think using the batten all the way around on a mesh wick is more effective and functional as well. This is Not necessary on cotton.
I say if you have the time, tanks, and tools then try both and see how it goes. That's the fun part- make it your own.. What works for you may suck for me, as I noticed my juice was giving me problems wicking while others using same setup were in vape heaven.

The gauge and length of wire determines your final ohmage. The longer the wire the higher ohm number you get and a thinner wire will also give you a higher ohm number.
The new ones still use the same wiring but they added some mesh around the coil and wick that goes down into the head. The purpose of it is to stay saturated; thus, cooling the wire near the rubber grommet. It seems to work okay but now you just have burning mesh rather than burning rubber.

Hey there BuzzKilla. I was wondering if you have a pic of your Vivi Nova with the SS mesh installed. Maybe an explanation of how you made it work??? I would love to try this out to see how I like it, but I haven't worked with SS mesh yet. I have some learning to do though because I also have a Genesis style atty on the way from a coop. Would appreciate it if you would kindly elaborate on your setup.

This video for SS mesh is in English if anyone is interested in rebuilding this way. I had great success with this tonight, and it rocks! It is so much better than using cotton wick or silica wick. I vape a 50/50 juice, I used 400 SS mesh from The Mesh Company: Online Shop for Woven, Knitted and Perforated Mesh for Art, Craft, Floristry, Modelling and Engineering, and 32awg A-1 Kanthal resistance wire. Didn't take much longer than rewicking with cotton or silica either. Just a little bit to oxidize the wick, but other than that it was a piece of cake!

Interesting - the dutch guy didn't seem to mind creasing the bend he made in the wick and how he just wrapped the (-) lead to the top of the head instead of threading it through the head.
I was wondering about the Dutch guy myself. The way he creased the SS mesh seems like it would kill the capillary action the rolled wick needs. This is just an assumption on my part from all that I have read and watched concerning SS mesh wicks. I used a combination of the video I posted and Scuba Dan's video on making a u-shaped SS mesh wick. It worked great for me, and tank after tank the vapor keeps tasting better. So happy I made the switch.
So, how long do the SS wicks usually last? I know everybody vapes differently, but will I just have to replace the coil when it burns out or what? I've only every had to deal with old cotton or such, but this SS is intriguing to me.
Any suggestions on how big of piece of SS I should use? Buying a torch after work. We will see how this goes....
