I did not care for the vivi nova with it's lousy, burnt, flavorless taste, until now.
I rebuilt the coil head with ss mesh and 30ga kanthal wire with a 6 wrap giving me 1.5 ohms.
OMG what a difference, the flavor is awesome and no burnt taste. It is just as good as my rebuildable gen style atty.

I have been asked if I would rebuild them for some friends, so I did.
If you want, I can rebuild yours for you. Just pm me.

Yea the shape and such would interest me. How do you keep it from leaking the normal wick is a snug fit? Even a pick would help.

i use mesh wrapped around a cotton ball, it is the best wick setup i've found that balances flavor/wicking well, and if you cut a small V in the silicon cap you can easily fit the new, thicker wick in place with no problem, and the spongy cotton keeps the juice from leaking.

I am now your friend! Let me know when your in Phila.Pa. Good work,do what works for you. I like 28kanthal in a "did"rba.

I've got 32 ga and it takes too many wraps to get the resistance high enough for my linear reg vv box. I'd like 2.5 to 3.0 ohms after all is said and done. So...yeah, higher than 32 would be my guess (thinner wire...like 34 or 36 ga). However, it depends on your target ohms. Haven't tried it though.

The thing with the VN is that there's only so much room to wrap the wire to fit in the "head". If you're adding non-resistance wire then it's even worse to get the ohms high enough.

P.S.
Using 400 SS mesh right now.

Here you can see the notch in the silicon. I forgot to mention that. Also if you start off by cutting the mesh from the sheet on a diagonal, instead of with the weave, you will be able to bend it really easy. Also make sure to shape it before you oxidize it.
elmattias; I don't see where you have enough room to add cotton. My next thought was to file the slots wider for a fatter wick.100_2537.jpg100_2543.jpg

Nice.

I'm liking my rebuild (400 mesh and 32 AWG kanthal) as well, but that's a nice tip about cutting diagonally. I'll have to try that on my next one.

That being said, I didn't mind them stock.

I am wondering how you got 6 wraps to fit in that head, though…………4 wraps gave me 1.7 ohms, and it works great. Though I do want to try it with NR wire at some point as well, though IDK if I need it. I'm not tasting burnt grommet, but I also haven't taken it apart yet.

My only thought on the NR wire is ....wasted heat not being applied to the juice. I've had no burning issue with the silicone/rubber grommet. But to pull it off, I'd have to find a way to solder/weld it (or twist it I guess) and also have higher resistance wire...so 36 ga. Sounds like more hassle than it's worth but might be worthy of an experiment for "fun".

I've gotten 6 wraps into the head. However, it took two magnifying glasses (stacked in a "helping hands") and some patience. One tip I saw (that I haven't tried yet) was to wrap the coil around the threads of a properly sized bolt and heat/temper it in place then put the wick through it.

The way I did it was to wrap the wire around the wick....carefully.

I have no problem with the 6 wrap whatsoever, I could do more if I wanted. I have to do a 6 wrap because I only have 30ga kanthal right now. I am waiting for my 32 and 34 to come in, then I will use less wraps.
Now for the NR wire. After I do my wrap and have the two end hanging there, I fold each of the wires in half and twist them real good, right back to the coil. I have now doubled the wire up and have reduced the ohms in half. This will stop the two wires heating up below the coil and burning the rubber insert. Makes sense, right! This is much easier then splicing NR wire to it; try it, what do u have to lose?
I tried to take some photos of the coil but my camera wont focus on it, guess it is too small.
