IMG_0605.jpgIMG_0608.jpgIMG_0609.jpgIMG_0611.jpgIMG_0612.jpgok guys I got a new vmod xl a few weeks back, this thing as been shorting since I got it. what it seems to me is a flaw in the design and a big one. this mod is the most dangerous mod ive ever owned, it shorts probally once a day and I have to use it until my new reo grand shows up because I got rid of my other mods. what seems to be happening is when the atty is screwed tight it shorts. if you notice the wire that comes from the fire button to the centre post dosnt have a insulation covering on it. when I screw the atty in it pushes down on this wire and makes it contact the metal juice feeder underneath it which is the negative post from the battery which is causing a dead short when I press the fire button. sometimes the mod is working fine then after im using it for a while then nothing and the internals heat up. SHORT. I don't know if it was just the unit I got, or a bad batch but this thing is VERY DANGEROUS. This $100 mod is useless and after countless emails to the vendor it dosnt seem they wanna do anything about it, I am posting this to make you guys aware of the problem Im having. if I were a newbe to vaping I probally would have my hand blown off by now. I know to take a quick puff before I take the drag and if there isn't any vapor stop right away because the mod has a short.

I cant send it in until I get my reo grand come in the mail because I gave away my other mods and don't wanna go back to analogs. ive been looking a bit further about the problem and im not 100% sure if its the wire or the 510 connector, the wire is really close but a few mins ago I slipped in a thin piece of plastic and it shorted which leads me to thinking about the 510 connecter being the cultrip. if I leave the atty loose it dosnt short. and it does short with the vapage atty. ive been leaving the atty loose but sometimes I forget my self when I put it in my mouth and end up turning it. either way its a new mod which has problems right from the start.

You don't fix. You exchange under the warranty... why would you continue to use a defective unit? A newbie would know to return the defective $100 item...

This has to be a troll

LOL you didn't read the post correctly or you would have noticed he doesn't have any mods except the brand new defective one.

If it continues to short then look in the chamber, make sure the positive pin's gasket is in place. You may have pressed it in by over tightening. That's one thing I avoid with all my mods. I try to tighten just enough to preserve the threads...

I was looking at the gasket, that is the only thing I can figure could be the problem, I managed to get the centre pin out and look at the gasket, it seems to be looking good but maybe when it gets compressed down by tightening the atty somehow its causing the short. that's the only thing left that could be causing the problem. maybe the 510 connector is a little off causing too much pressure on the center pin before the atty will bottom out. I put the atty in snug till it bottoms out but I don't force it tight just turn till I feel it go snug, most of the time I just twist the drip tip to tighten

What size battery are you using in your device? Did you send pics with your emails to Vapage? It looks, (to me), the battery may be a little too long for your XL. Did the unit activate in your pocket at some point? I use a Kick in mine and at one point the Kick moved a certain way when it was in my pocket, activated and almost shorted out. The only thing that happened was it got hot enough that the button came loose and I had to glue it back onto the post it sits on. I think I was very fortunate at the time. Both, the XL and the Kick are fine and in great working order.

As others have pointed out, the unit has a 6 mo warranty and the vendor should replace the unit for you. I know several that have had their units replaced past the warranty for free as well. Only had to pay shipping back to Vapage.

Sorry to hear you're having this problem VapesAlot! I also think something's wrong in the 510 connector. When I screw in a cart or atty it does not bottom out. It's snug enough on the O-ring that I can't feel that. I certainly can't turn the atty with a drip tip. I never screw that in much past just making contact with the center pin. IMO it could very well be that you are pushing the center pin too far as Eddie suggested.

Not much help I know, but I don't have much experience with these yet. In any case, I would not continue using the PV until you figure out a way to stop it from shorting. That could get nasty!

im running the standard aw imr 18650 batterys, the mod has never pocket fired, this was caused by just taking a 10 sec drag and the unit didn't fire. why the battery looks larger is the top spring actually melted down into the plastic some making it closer to the battery but it dosnt touch the battery.

that must be the problem, mine dosnt touch anything, you just turn until it gets snug and at that point its too far

good news guys, I found an old 808 to 510 connector that was stuffed away. took it apart and it had the same gasket. I compared the two and the one on the vmod had a ring missing off the gasket. I installed the new gasket and no shorts. I guess what was happening was where the ring was missing off the gasket it was allowing the center pin to be pressed down too far causing it to short. it seems like the atty dosnt turn so far now before it gets tight.

Well at least you found what the problem was. But I'd still contact Vapage, let them know about all your issues and see if they will repair or replace the main body.
Granted I've only had my Xl for a short time, the fine folks here on both the Vmod threads are a wealth of help and advice. If it was me, I'd do everything I could think of to bring it to the attention of Brian and the fine folks at Vapage.

By the way, there must have been a run on stupid pills given out to the cage drivers today, it seemed like I had a drive me off the road banner on me. Almost ran off the road 3 times, 2 turned in front of me. Maybe I should have stayed home and just vaped today.
