Volt is an excellent choice and if you are an extremely light smoker the short batteries may be enough for you though I usually recommend the 78mm which make 120m ecig. I also recommend manuals which are much hard to damage or kill with juices leaks and make it easier to get a good hit. Most people here use and recommend manuals for all models. Volt can also use cartos for Bloogplanet and Halocigs G6 which are identical models and from V4L (Vapor4Life) which is more like the original manufacturer style but with a custom 10-13 second cutoff.

For a heavy smoker - the Volt and the V4L models are the strongest slim ecigs available. The V4L allows longer drags (with their batteries that state 10-13 second cutoff) and the Volt style has 40mah more charge for each battery size. A heavy vaper with a charger at work may be able to get by with Volt. I always have a charger at work for every ecig I bring to work (3 models).

To get more power and longer charge you have to go to the fat battery models (like Ego, Kgo, Riva 510) or mods which are mostly 510 threaded and use cartomizers of tanks or carto tanks you fill yourself. There are few decent prefilled cartos for 510 threading. These fat battery models and mods are 650mah+ and can optionally use the hotter low resistance atomizers and cartomizers (though those do use charge up faster)

The Volt is a great choice. It feels more like a real cigarette. Make sure you get the starter kit that comes with the PCC. With that, you can recharge one of your batteries when it dies without needing a power supply. It's about the size of the Iphone. He would have no problem keeping that in his coat pocket.
