Do you have any 510s that are flush or recessed into the device? For a 22mm atty, it's hardly noticeable, but for anything greater than or less than, it creates a look that I think detracts from the piece

the 510 is the let down for me too. not so much that it doesn't sit flush, just that the ft setups aren't up to scratch with a tailor made mod of this calibre

This mod has the best squonk of any bf mod that I have used to date. It is so easy that because I have other squonkers, I have to be very careful when I use this not to over squonk. The top plate on this 510 can't be anymore then 1mm. I also have had no issues with leakage or fit with this 510. And due to the size of this mod I don't believe it would be possible to have any larger 510. I also like the fact that the 510 protects the mod from possible damage to the wood.

it's that plate. really the only issue I can think of. like I said, with a 22mm atty it's a non-issue. with anything greater than or less than 22mm it detracts from the look

I think FD makes good 510s. Good enough anyway

An atty greater than 22mm will look silly hanging over the sides of the mod. The VR mod is very small. In my opinion the plate protects the wood/finish from any possible atty damage.

Agreed. if you're hanging of the side of your mod it's going to look terrible. it appears that the vkiwi mod is 23mm in diameter, give or take.

the plate does protect against atty swirls appearing on the mod. I just think it would be nice to have another option is all

I can tell you, since I have one, anything bigger than 22mm and there will be some hangover on the front, sides, or both. And what would another option be?

maybe an original FD 510 with vented screw.

maybe increase the top cap by 2mm or so to recess the plate into it from the FD v4s

Have to agree with this 100%.

As stated above the squonk is perfect, not a lot of pressure needed, 100% VG is flying into base of my Stumpy, very easy to over squonk if not careful.

Also the 510mm is approx 1mm high maybe less and this acts as a perfect protection where arty meets mod. I'm too OCD on my mods and nothing annoys me more than a 22mm atty marking my mod base.

I have 8 other squonkers 5 of which are considered high end mods and none out perform the squonk on my two VR mods

For me unless somebody can advise what benefits I will get from changing it I'm happy right here

I see the plate on the 510 as a massive advantage, as this is the place most likely to be wet with juice as even removing your atty cap and refitting it can push liquid into this area. Any engrain or recess here could cause issues over time. To recess this plate would require fully synthetic caps, and a smaller plate would have to be recessed. I do have smaller fat daddy 510s here and tried them with unfavorable results for all the reasons everybody has stated above. If anyone knows of other bf 510 manufacturers with nice products I would be very happy to bring them in and try them, as options are always good to have!

Since I tend to run small atties (Cyclone, Chalice, Nuppin) I'm not a big fan of the plate, but I can understand why it's there, and why 22mm guys would like it. The thing is, you're the mod-maker and as long as you're not having any problems selling them, you should make it the way YOU want to. It certainly won't stop ME from buying (at least) one. :)
