VS rDNA40 vs Flask and Hana...is DNA 40 defective?

Backstory...So around 2009 I got introduced to ecigs via a mini, but quickly transitioned to a mech mod from Super T. After about a year mostly smoke free, I fell off the wagon and smoked for nearly a year. Then I bought a bigger/better mech mod from Super T, a Kick, and a carto tank. I've been smoke free ever since. I now have a Kick 2 15 Watt, but other than that my setup hasn't changed.

I just ordered an eLeaf iStick and Aspire nautilus tonight as a backup/extra mod. I recently bought my wife an iStick with Nautilus Mini and liked both. That said, I've had my heart set on a dna device and a RTA. So I've been looking at the VS rDNA40, the Hana DNA40, and the Vapor Flask DNA40. So I have a couple of questions if anyone can help me out...

Is the DNA40 board defective? I don't want to spend big bucks on a device only to have it fail. I've seen a lot of threads about DNA40 issues, so I'm questioning if I should get one.

Vapor Shark, Vapor Flask, or Hana Mod? I've heard good and bad about them all. I've been leaning toward the Vapor Shark, but any good reasons to get one over the other, or something else entirely?

I don't own any but have been considering the same options and lean towards the VS mainly for size/ being reasonably compact. While we have seen some issues with the dna 40 board on the forums and such people who receive a defective unit are far more vocal about it than those with a good working unit so I suspect the board isn't as bad as we are led to believe. I look forward to some opinions by those who own one.

I own 3 VF40s. 2 work great and the third has been RMA'd to Evolv. When the board is bad, it is very bad. On the other hand, when it is working properly, it is fantastic.

Evolv received a bad batch of PCB's and these were sent out to all of the manufacturers. Chances are the same of getting a bad board with any of the devices. If you want a DNA40 now, go ahead and get one. If it's bad, all vendors are taking care of it. Otherwise, wait a month or so and all of the bad boards should no longer be on the market.

I have a VS from the first batch they sent out and it has been working fine. There really isn't anything to dislike about the rNDA40, unless it is just too small for you. It is a quality device that comes at a pretty significant savings compared to the other 2 you mentioned. The main benefit of the VF is the dual batteries, but if you go that route, be aware that while the DNA board will protect you from putting both batteries in the wrong way, it will NOT protect you against putting one in right and the other in wrong, the MOD should do that, but it doesn't.

I have the VF40. Was great for a couple days. Screen went jumbled. Sometimes it flashed when it was just sitting on the table. RMA send back to Vaporflask for repair. It should arrive there today and Im hoping to have it back by the end of the week. Evolv has always made a quality product. Their QA didnt catch this for some reason so the boards w defects went out to all the mod manufacturers. But they are standing behind the product and owning up to their mistake and fixing the defective ones. Not really a huge deal. Also I have the VS rdna 30. Its incredibly small and thats why I love it. But it cant compare to the battery life on the VF40 since the VF takes 2 18650s.

I bought a Flask late in Oct, the chip was wonky, sent it to Evolv and got it back with a fully functional chip. Roughly 10 day turnaround. The DNA40 is really something special – the vape I’m getting is the best I’ve had bar none. I have 30 or so mods, and don’t see myself buying anything other than DNA40 devices (or the inevitable new model from Evolv) in the future.

As to the Flask, it’s a nice device and I love having the screen on top. I’m finding it very helpful to see what’s going on with the DNA40 as I continue to learn how to build with Ni200. Also like the overall form factor and the dual batteries. I think it’s overpriced for what you get, but it has many pluses.

My next DNA40 will be the PEG40 that’s on Indiegogo at the moment. $140 for a dual battery DNA40 is really attractive and, while the form factor is not as nice as the Flask, it has some excellent features. Plunked down the cash for that as soon as the campaign went live.

Been looking at the BAP mods as well, but not a big fan of the buttons. The Shark is a solid choice if you can live with the screen on the bottom. Not of fan of that design myself, but the Shark itself is a solid device and has great customer service.

If you’re more into a tube (or tube-ish) form factor, I would highly recommend the Protovapor XPV. I had the DNA20 version of it and it was a very well-made mod at a decent price from a good company. Personally I don’t like mods with non-removable batteries, but if that’s not an objection, the XPV is worth a look.

I noticed no one mentioned the Hana Modz DNA40, a local shop has them in stock. How do they compare to the VS rDNA40 and VF DNA40?

I don't like that the Hana mod uses loads of glue for there board so I went with the VS which is cheaper and smaller than the Hana. Depends on what you want, the VF like said has dual batteries but its pricey.

Some of the clones are cleaner than the authentics. Hanas tend to be sloppy on the inside

If my info is correct, Vapor Shark is having a 20% off everything sale on Cyber Monday. So I'll probably go with the VS rDNA40. The Hana Modz DNA40 sure looks nice, but there seems to be a lot of negative comments about them. To bad, I was seriously considering getting one.

Just wait a month or 2 the V3 of the DNA40 board seems to be without issues. The VS rDNA40 mod itself is good, it's the v1 and v2 revisions of the board that are faulty.

What happens if the $$ isn't raised by December 8th? ATM, $13,469 has been raised, and just a little over a week to come up with the remainder... Personally, after watching the guy's AceSmok 50 review, and telling folks he may carry a device in his store which fires through shorted attys, etc... I'm kinda wary to involve myself regardless...

The sealed battery and the length make it less attractive than the vs rdna IMO. But some people love this mod - whatever keeps you off the stinkies works
