There is also the VV box mod from Madvapes but, their website is having a problem loading on my browser. So, that's another one to look at. Overall, your friend haa a bit of choices to choose from. If your friends budget allows it then the VV REO should be out pretty soon too.

You could also head over to the modding section of the forum, there is a lot of threads that can walk you through building one if you are handy with a soldering iron.
The madvapes vv box should be back in stock soon. It's a really really sweet device! Performance wise, I like it as good as my Provari.
I've heard good things about it, the Reo may be to expensive for his first time out, and the mv vv is a good price and bad reviews are few and far between.

That's 2 votes from provari owners, as a provari owner myself that is some real good advice. I may buy one myself. I told him that this is the one he should get when they are back in stock.

OP is asking about VV box mods,,both of those are FV box,,
little bit more expensive option is the Lavatube,comparable to the provari in ability and size
I have the Madvapes vv box mod without the display, but I bought the MV digital voltmeter inline adapter. If the one with the built in voltage display was available when I bought mine, I'd have sprung for it.
They were out of stock when I ordered mine. I clicked the "notify me when it's available" selection and within a day or two I got an email and went back and ordered it. They are pretty quick about building more as they run out. You won't wait long.
It's definitely a full 3v-7.4v mod that works well. It's a linear regulator type but nice and it works well with LR attys at 3.7v-4.2v.

Another vote for the MadVapes VV box. I've built several (with built-in meter) and, because they're local to me, I've seen the pre-built ones with the meter onboard (my build is similar). Kit or prebuilt, these things are a great (and cheap) intro to VV.

I have a Lavatube and I offered to sell it to him for real ch and he said he just wants a box mod with CC, he thinks they look bad ....
I sold my lavatube. The only way i'd sell my madvapes vv box is if someone gave me $35 and then id take that $35 and buy another!
