Its type of service...Dial-up...Satellite...DSL...Cable...T1...T3 in that order of speed. When I was working for EA Games I had T1 service provided for me....that was sweet while it lasted.

You left out ISDN. (I think between dial up and satellite.) That's what we had put in long before DSL was available. We used two 128 lines combined (I may be remembering so totally wrong, but it was faster than dial-up) One of those lines now carries our ADSL but because of the condition of the underground cable, 1/4 mile back to the house, and being cut several times, we only get about 1/3 the speed, that is fed out here. And it goes on and off a lot. About the only time we notice it is when we are doing movies through DH's quad core computer, w 1 gig video card, and 8 gigs memory, and we get occasional buffering. No fault of the local equipment; fault of the DSL signal.

We don't have cable either. But do have land line phones, except ours can't be used, the old one, as it is total static when it rains. Our "land line" is the same as the old ISDN line I had put in 20 or so years ago.

Wow. No land lines. Just wow. I'm guessing there's no cell service either? Even a 3G wifi hotspot will do better than what you've got going on there, and for $40/month (give or take)...

We have 4G in town but not out here. I signed up for the 3G hotspot on one of our phones, after electricity out several times. I was shocked at how much data it delivered and the speed (we get better 3G data signal than voice signal out here.). As long as only one computer was being used it was almost (okay a big exaggeration) as speedy as our DSL. It will do in a pinch but Sprint, our carrier, who has no limit on data, via phone, does have a 5 gig limit on tethering via HotSpot. So, in our case only for emergencies. Also, you can sigh up for it for a month, and then drop it, and sign up again, when you need it, for a month or however long you need it. It only took a few minutes to get it going, when I needed it.

Won't, at this point, speak of going in through the "back door" but that's the way to avoid charges if you go over data allowance when tethering a computer to a phone.

Many areas have older phone lines even in urban areas which means no fiber optics. Our family home in the Bay Area which we rent is smack dab in the middle of Silicon Valley and no fiber optic phone lines (makes no sense) so its DSL or Broadband.

But we digress...back on topic......VV REO PORN UPDATES!
