I'm feeling like one of my VVG's needs a deep cleaning. Its starting to taste off no matter which juice or atty I use with it, and for some reason its giving a harsh throat hit at any voltage.

I know when similar things creep up on the Grand I can run it under hot water for a while to get it all cleaned up and its smooth sailing. The best I've done with the VVG is fill the bottle with warm water and carefully shoot the water through the connector, making sure none of the water gets into the electro-guts under the hood. Somehow this doesn't feel like enough to get a good cleaning.

So, should I put alcohol or vinegar in the bottle and run it through a few times? Is there some preferred maintenance plan I should be using. I know I'm spoiled and lazy cause I haven't had to do anything with these since I've had them now for the last several months except charge my batts and fill with juice.

I clean the connector with alcohol...and run some alcohol through the tubing. I soak the bottle, cap and o-ring in alcohol too. What is the status of the atties or cartos you are using? I also have gotten into the habit of rinsing the bottle out at each juice change. Sometimes, with certain atties....the juice from the atty drains back into the bottle and turns the juice kind of sour.

Also, putting alcohol into bottle and squeezing and releasing bottle so that it goes into cup and then back down, can hasten the process. Clean CC as much as needed with q-tip. After doing that a few times fill bottle then squeeze and release while totally filling cup and tube, to capacity, using a syringe. Then let sit for a day or so. Do final clean out with fresh alcohol. I like to do last flush with PGA to rinse out the non-consumable isopropyl alcohol but if you give the tube and bottle a bit of airing time no issues with residue. It's such a small amount of isporopyl alcohol left it shouldn't be an issue, though. I've found the most offending part of system is the cap o-ring so taking it out to soak helps a whole lot. The RBAs that suck juice back into bottle the most are the ones with feed hole level with bottom. Those with feed tube, rising above the base pull very little juice back into bottle. A7 has raised feed post. And to a lesser extent Hornet and ERA.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

I rinsed everything, then cleaned the CC with IPA. I then filled the bottle with IPA and squeezed it through the feed tube several times. Finally, I took the bottle, bottle cap and the ERA and gave them an IPA soak. I got impatient at about 20 min. in so I rinsed everything again several times with warm water and put it all back together. I'd say the funk is about 95% gone. Perhaps an overnight bath would have been better but I don't have that kind of patience. I'm also trying out a new juice so that might be contributing to a slight off taste.

BTW- I get that IPA might not be the safest thing to use, but I did make sure to rinse it off completely before putting it all back together. Gave it the old sniff test and there was no alcohol smell at all when I was done, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I wont wake up with an extra toe tomorrow morning.
