get both. even if you don't use it for vaping, the vamo is incredibly convenient for building coils on. click one button and the resistance of your coil pops up on the screen, without having it attempt to fire. also good for checking battery voltage in a pinch, and it's always nice to have back-ups.

you should be able to get both from fasttech for about $60 shipped - think a vamo is about $30 and a k100 about $25

The issue being I also need batteries and a charger, add to that an rba, and there goes my budget. Hence the dilema..

You can get batteries and a charger from Fasttech also. I just picked up the Panasonic NCR18650B Unprotected. They have a max constant discharge current of 10A and a max pulse (5-6sec) current of 12A. They charge up to 4.2V so unless you're building a coils below 0.35ohms you should be good.

well, i say if you want a mech and an rba, go with that. since getting into mechs, i pretty much only use my vamo to check the resistance of my coils and the charge left on my batteries (actually, i lost my first vamo, but ordered another one entirely for this purpose). that's entirely a matter of convenience on my part, though - it would be just as easy to buy a 510 connector from radio shack and rig up a quick fixture for a fluke.

it sounds like you know your way around electronics, so i won't bore you with all the usual electrical safety details, but i'd still recommend reading up and watching videos on rbas.

also, please make sure you get some decent quality batteries, especially if you're planning on going sub-ohm. DO NOT use ICR batteries in a mech mod, ONLY USE UNPROTECTED HIGH-DRAIN IMR BATTERIES; if they fail, they do so much less violently. the only batteries i'd recommend that are available on fasttech are the panny hybrids:

$11.03 Panasonic CGR18650CH Rechargeable 2250mAh 3.7V 18650 Lithium Batteries 2-pack - authentic cells / 2-pack at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

other than that, the most trusted batteries are the imr aw's, mnke's, and efest's.

this is an icr battery - for safety's sake, please don't use this battery in an unregulated mod, especially if you're using a sub-ohm coil. even if you don't believe me, gotvapes recommends against it as well:

Panasonic NCR18650B 3400mah Li-Ion for eVic [gv-Panasonic18650-3400mah-Batt] - $14.95 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

Pretty sure the NCR18650B is not rated at 10A constant, that's the NCR18650PD.

My twist no longer works. thankfully I had a backup with me that day.

Waiting in the mail for my Vamo, and K100. Thanks for posting this thread, and I think your on the right track, but of course I am biased looking at my last order. I feel that I will eventually be going completely mechanical once I am comfortable with it. I feel I will have more control over battery life, taste, vapor production. Also there is too much to fail with the vv/vw mods. The mech will withstand dropping, rain, etc.

Did you order an rba with it? If so, which one? If you would, once you get both come back here and let me know how ya like them.

Thanks vapo jam for that catch. I didn't realize these were not safe chemistry batteries. I did more research and I'd revise my recommendation to the NCR18650PD, high drain 10A/18A battery

IF I was to buy and RBA I am totally sold on the looks of the octopus. But, for now, the K100 comes with an XL carto and really want to know what taste this gives as designed. If it tastes great why change it? Ha! I'm probly just fooling myself. I will likely be rebuilding within a week or two. I am already rebuilding my clearos (evod and vivi) that's what the Vamo is for. As said before, the Vamo will check my ohms for me. This way the DVOM can stay out in the garage.

Fasttech is your friend if you want to get everything at the lowest price and pay nothing for shipping. It takes a couple weeks for delivery though, so keep that in mind. I bought the KTS mod and so far it is awesome, also the Panasonic CGR18650CH battery set, and their cheapest 500 mA charger. It all can be had for about $35 or less. Add a $5 RDA and you are set. They also have higher quality nitecore chargers, which cost a little more but may be worth it for battery longevity and charging speed.

Oh I'm no stranger to fasttech. That's where I was pricing everything. I believe the k100, decent Panasonics, I2 charger, and rba came out to $64. The k100 kit comes with batts and charger for cheaper, but it seems wasteful to buy something I know I'll be replacing. Whereas the vamo includes the Panasonics and the I2, which I think is ultimately the ones I want.

You know how many times I've said that to my wife? "This one is more expensive, but it does everything we need." A week later I'm saying this is nice but what if we done this to it....

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say you probly wont be happy untill you have both. Pull the trigger on your k100. You already have the DVOM if you decide to rebuild. Also you can add a kick if you want to adjust the clearos. Either way you go you will likely buy the later. Get something in the mail today! You will be waiting 2 weeks:facepalm: I am sure you will be happy with either one.
