Hello all,

First post here. My story begins when I was around 12 and starting smoking like a fiend.

I smoked 20 years and I mean heavy. I routinely put away 3 packs a day. It was easier back in the day because you could smoke EVERYWHERE. Planes, restaurants, office. I smoked in college in the classroom. One movie theater on Long Island had a smoking section. I smoked in the shower sometimes and during a funeral. At restaurants after dinner we would put our cigarettes out into the food (yuck!). I can still remember the smell of stubbing out a camel in baked potato. I smoked during sex.

Then around 35 years old (20+ years of heavy smoking) I quit cold turkey. Hardest thing I ever did in my life.

Around the year 2000 I was 10 years smoke free and feeling invincible I fell off the wagon and got hooked again.

Over the past 11 years its been a constant struggle. Most of the time I was an occasional smoker. Right now I smoke an average of 2 cigarettes a day. I accomplish that feat, believe it or not, by driving to the closest gas station (about 15 minutes) every morning. There I buy a pack of Marlboro Silver menthol, remove 2, and throw the rest in the garbage right there outside the store. The rest of the day I spend trying to resist the impulse to drive back for more.

Before you laugh at how incredibly wasteful and foolish that is, consider that if I brought the pack home I would just smoke all of it before the day was out resulting in the exact same expense. And hasten the day I need a lung transplant or a coffin.

Even at 2 smokes a day I am mentally tortured at the damage I might be doing to my body and constantly agonizing over why I just can't quit.

Once I started to investigate ecigs I read a few posts and decided to dive in with the starter sampler kit at Halo. Seemed like a fair way for a newbie to get going (510 plus 7 different juice samples) so I ordered it.

Now, its only been 2 days but the wait is KILLING me. If I have any complaints about Halo so far its that the fastest shipping they had was priority mail. I would have gladly paid for overnight FedEx and in fact I would have paid for a private courier to deliver by rocket it if I could of.

I just want to be free of the burning cigarettes and I have high hopes for this adventure.

So if you are reading this, Halo, consider offering FedEx on your website.

Update: I got the kit. Off to youtube and reading more posts. When I finally started vaping all the sample flavors really taste like the proverbial s---. Only slightly roasted. More youtube and reading posts. The menthol ones I couldn't taste and the tobacco ones tasted like roasted carpet to me.

Like people say, its a process. I settled on the Malibu flavor as the least bad. My mistake may have been that I only ordered the 6mg weakest because I really do like ultra lites. But I couldn't really taste the all menthol Halos at all although huge clouds of vapor will blowing out.

Dazed and confused, I am sticking with it. I ordered some stronger menthol juice from Halo so I can see if that was my mistake. I do like the claim that the juice is US made and their prompt shipping. So, regardless, first day and I am analog free and no matter what I ain't going back to the old cigs.

Hi and welcome...
Your story is so similar to others here.....I never tried Halo, personally, but being a heavy smoker myself(before ecigs) I found that the 510 just didn't have enough power to give the kind of hit I needed....and juice, well I can recommend a few vendors that have 3ml sizes in any nic content you desire if you like....
I smoke ultra lights, and now have a range of nic juices.....I use the stronger ones when I feel stressed and the lighter ones at night so I can still sleep.
Ask as many questions as you like...the members here are super helpful and have been where you are.
:)
one reason what it is so difficult to quit is that it is an all emcompassing habit, the ritual is just as addicting as the tobacco... and there are so many other things in the tobacco that we are addicted to other than the nicotene.
You can get quite an education here at ecf.

I remember those good old days... Smoke drifting into the hallways from the teachers' lounge, smoking in the grocery store, smoking in the waiting room at the hospital, smoking in theaters and restaurants, smoking, smoking...everyone smoked and smoked everywhere. This is the first time in my life I've ever been smoke-free (if you count second-hand smoke and everyone does these days). Born addicted.

We've ordered from halo a few times...my wife loves the menthol ice, and I'm digging the Tribeca. We order 24mg tho. Some juices need steeping for a few days before they really achieve their true flavor...kinda like aging....I haven't noticed the need to steep halo, however, I would suggest you let them sit and try them again in a week or so...

6 mg is extremely low. From what many members have posted, I don't know that there is that much coorelation between the type of cigs you smoked and nic level you need to quit. It's across the board.

Many people start with 18-24 mg. If that doesn't do it, order something higher. If it's too strong, something lower. But you need enough of a nicotine hit to prevent cravings.

Welcome to ECF and congratulationson your efforts. I am a Halo junkie. With that said, I do not care for any of the tobacco flavors althought they have a huge following. TruePure is my all day everyday. I can not state strongly enough that the quality of Halo's juices is above the rest. It does not have an aftertaste or a perfumy taste that so many others have. The batteries & cartos that come with the halo kit are very good. The batteries are short-lived though in between charges. Feel free to pm me about Halo if you have any questions. But you have to have 5 posts to be able to pm.

Best wishes!

Thanks all for the advice and encouragement. I have already ordered a few more samples at a bumped up nic level, and I think I'll find what I'm after! Now I just have to figure out how not to vape away all day as my shelf fills with experiments. So far I am liking the 510 that I got from them. I only plan to be vaping a few times a day (yeah famous last words) so the battery life seems OK and the thing does pump an amazing amount of vapor. Although I suspect if we roll forward a year I'll be using some of the throat cannons and tanks and such I've been reading about here!!
