Chris,

Thanks for contacting me, at the moment, that is not a concept we would be interested in leasing for.

Thank you for thinking of Walmart as a place to do business.

Subject: Retail space at Wal Mart # 5272 (Poulsbo)

Hello, I’m inquiring about the 619 sq ft. retail space for lease at the Poulsbo Wal Mart, #5272. I’m interested in learning pricing and lease terms. Also, I’m curious what the regulations are for the use of Electronic Cigarettes – I know that, generally, Wal Mart allows customers to use them without complaint, but what about leasees? I’m hoping to be selling them, and one of the advertising is to see people actually doing it. It’s not a requirement, I’m just curious about the regulation. The document I read was from 2009 and didn’t address them.

All I can say is... WTF?!

If you read my inquiry, you'll see that I didn't even say that was going to be the main focus of my store. For all he knows, I'm offering various therapies to quit smoking and that's just one of them. WTF? Maybe I should take this to my local news.

Sorry for your rejection. Upon reading your inquiry, it did in fact come across to me that you would be an ecig vendor. Perhaps in the future a wording such as "While I intend to sell a variety of health related products, I wish to include ecigs as one of them. What are your policies regarding these?" Or something similar that conveys that the ecigs are not the bulk of the business...if that is actually the plan.

Good luck!

Walmart sells cigarettes. In my area they are higher than anywhere else. They probably don't want the competition. I have bought many packs of smokes at Walmart because after spending so long in their store and waiting 20 minutes in the checkout line I was too tired to make another stop on the way home. It was just easier to buy them there.

It was a simple inquiry about pricing, for a place they have sitting fallow in an area where people can't afford to start a business, or lease property. I didn't think I needed to be clear about what KIND of business I wanted to open, I was responding to an advertised property for lease that had terms that said "Ask". I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, but in my world, when someone advertises they want to lease a property, they don't reject inquiries.

I don't mean to come off as aggressive, but if I'm gonna spend 1500 + a month on property, well.. I feel I should be able to ask questions before I even consider a place. Again, in my world, if someone has a product (In this case, a 1+ year lease) that they are advertising ... Then I shouldn't need to have my friends, family, or lawyer look at the email I send asking questions.

I don't know if you mean to come off as aggressive, but that's sure how it sounds. I took pkj's comment as a genuine attempt to help you. By what I've read here, that is one poster who, without question, would love everyone to be free to vape and therefore sell vaping supplies without prejudice.

My only suggestion is to take it down a notch before you contact your local news. You wouldn't want the headlines to be "Local guy goes nuts".

I Didn’t take your e-Mail to be aggressive. It just didn’t seem like a very Professional correspondence.

If I was going to contact anyone in a business environment I would not start out with “Hello”. I would think “Dear Mr. Berry,” would be more appropriate.

You should know what the Federal, State and Local Regulations are with regards to selling e-Cigarette related products in a retail setting before you contact a Property Manager. The fact that you asked about them tells me that you do not have Business License in your State and County which has the Sale of such items Specifically Listed.

And without a Business License you probably don’t have a Business Bank account with a Tax ID number. Or a Wholesalers ID. Or any way to show Liability Protection.

If you are serious about starting a retail store which sells e-Cigarette related items, perhaps you should do a little research into what types of Lease Requirements you will have to satisfy to obtain a Retail Space and what Requirements you will have to abide by to conduct Retail Sales to the Public.

I worked for Walmart part-time last summer and their policy was that e-cigarettes were treated the same as tobacco cigarettes per the local laws. My state banned indoor smoking in businesses, so e-cigarettes were included in that ban. They also discontinued carrying e-cigarette inventory in their stores.

So, if the state/city you want to be in prohibits smoking in the location, Walmart includes e-cigarettes in that ban. My guess would be that the restriction would extend to any vendors leasing space in their store, as well.
Hope that helps.

Nah, this area has no regulations whatsoever - King County does have indoor use bans, and Tacoma/Pierce county has a limitted one. The state has told me that they are not regulated for sale in any way except as consumer goods - they do not treat them as tobacco products. However, I paid the fees to also get a tobacco license, just in case in the future they change their mind.

I was a little upset when I shared on here, because I have done a lot of work and research, and simply having a hard time finding a place to open business. Either the places are rediculously expensive, far out of the way, or have no parking :(

Exactly .. I've been a business owner for over 30 years .. you do the basics before you even consider space leasing .. otherwise, you are just playing .. and spelling is important as well ..

You are talking about e-cig regulations. I'm talking about SMOKING regulations. E-cigarettes are specifically not included in the smoking ban in my state, but because SMOKING is still banned in businesses, Walmart Corp. still includes e-cigarettes in it's store smoking policies.

So Walmart's policy depends upon the smoking regulations in your area NOT e-cig regulations. Unless smoking is still allowed in public spaces and businesses in your area, it seems Walmart will ban smoking AND vaping in its stores in your area.

I'm not suprised though. I work for walmart and we had a smoking room, until a few days ago.....we would sit in there and vape to be respectful ya know. Now they banned smoking inside, the room is just sitting there but walmart is not vape friendly here. They told us to go outside just like yhe cig smokers....not complaining except its 107° outside....stealth vape in the restroom ftw

Same thing happened at the store I worked at. Indoor smoking was banned statewide last July but NOT e-cigarette use and Walmart corporate policy is e-cigarette users have to go to their outdoor smoking area - which is in your car only at the far end of the parking lot. Usually I just went in the restroom - who would know?? LOL! (Which is why indoor bans on e-cigarettes are pointless - you couldn't "stealth smoke" the way we can stealth vape. Smoke in the restroom and you'd quickly get busted!)

Again, in my world

But, it's not your world. It's WallyWorld! :p
Now, this is a stupid question...but if the property will cost you $1500/mo, do you really believe to break even or even make a profit? Are you going to sell $200 ego kits?

edit* This is wallmart. Where people go to bargain shop, please don't take my comment negatively
