I have seen at least a couple of recent posts regarding the battery spring on the new Stainless Steel Vamo. From all indications, it appears that the new thick spring has a high resistance and is causing not only a loss of power to the atomizer but a dangerous situation where the spring becomes hot. This heat could cause your battery to fail catastrophically and that ain't good, folks!

In the interests of keeping vapers safe, I am posting this up with the WARNING wording specifically to catch your eye. We all want to be safe and we don't want a fix to come down the pike only after several people have been injured.

Please see the following thread for more details and some options for fixes.

Vape hard, vape safe,
Diz :toast:

EDIT: I do not mean to cast any aspersions at the Vamo. From what I have heard, it appears to be a fine device. This is just one of those things that sometimes come up in new versions of a device and it's always best to know about so that you, as an owner, can be aware to watch for it.

Perhaps the latest models have a different spring but, as jim829 stated, better to know and to what out for it.

@toothboy, I don't think you need to panic, just watch out for it and if the bottom of your Vamo starts getting warm, check the spring. BTW, could you put up a pic or two of your spring to compare with those in the thread I referenced?

@cyclotron, the resistance of the spring should be essentially zero ohms...or, at least too low to read without going into the 100ths of an ohm. Keep in mind that many meters will read some resistance even when their leads are shorted together...this should be considered your "zero" reading on your meter...subtract that from what you read on your spring to get the spring's resistance.

I got my SS Vamo the same day, and from the same vendor, as the one in that thread, and am having no issues with the spring heating up at all.

I wonder if there been any other complaints of this or it's just this one guy's PV having a QC issue. It hardly seems widespread if nobody else has even mentioned it.

[Edit: Just read through the whole thread and noticed a couple other people mentioning it.]

Can you use a multimeter to test the resistance of the spring please.
Has the spring in your Vamo become too hot to touch at any point?

Here are pictures of mine.

SS Vamo - Left
Gunmetal - Right

I have stretched both springs out just a little to make better contact.

The spring issue was mentioned by Todd during his review of the SS.
It's something that happens when you chain vape whilst using lower resistance devices - the spring gets warm, not hot.

It's certainly nothing to worry about and won't cause the vamo to explode - the device's internal protection would kick in before any kind of issues occurring anyway.

If you're so inclined, you can replace the spring with a hot spring.

Yea, mine was also getting hot. It took awhile, but it did build up the heat.
Mainly while chain vaping, but still a concern.

I have put in a ticket with Vapor Bank, and gave them all of this info so if they have others ask.....they hopefully will have some answers.
They also said they would send me a new spring. If that one doesnt work, I will just pick up a hot spring.

Like I said in the other thread, I have the hot spring issue too, replacing it with another resolved the issue completely since 2 days.

Some friends on ecig french forum reported that issue too.

I don't think it's only SS related but because of a large spring bad batch :(

Also you can't use the old thin version of the spring in the SS cap, it does not have the center pin.

Yup. I swapped out my spring in my SS Vamo with the spring from my YJ V2 Chrome, and it's working great (just a but too small width-wise) while I wait for my spring from Avid Vaper.

Health Cabin will be sending out new springs soon to users who purchased theirs from them. You will need to put in a "claim" through their "ticket" system. I have noticed that it depends on which batteries I am using. When using my 18650 it gets warm, not really hot but warm. When using stacked (don't start please) 18350s it stays nice and cool. I think that is because the stacked configuration compresses the spring more that the 18650 and lowers the resistance.
