First off let me apologize... I know there are already several threads from new users trying to figure out what the best model is. I've done my best to read them and I must admit I'm still unsure. I know that a lot of what is said here comes down to opinions and preferences, however I need some personalized help =) It seems that the more I read the more confused I get and more questions pop into my head. If anyone can find the time and feel the kindness long enough to read below and offer up your knowledge it would be tremendously appreciated.

Background: I don't smoke that much, approximately half a pack of Camel Lights a day, but have been smoking for 10+ years (would prefer NOT to think about it more specifically then that) I have NEVER before even considered quitting. I am not foolish enough to think I am not addicted to nicotine but have found that with my ADHD, the behavioral pattern seems to be the most problematic. Until the e cigarette came along nothing offered seemed to address this problem. Plus, I do actually enjoy the act of smoking just not the cancer, tar, and death part.

Questions/Problems: Below are the questions I have and some of my confusions...

Vapor: I see people write about how light versus how dense the vapor is from one type of unit or another but I am having trouble visualizing it. Where does light versus dense fall in comparison to an analog cigarette?

2 piece vs. 3 piece: This is an opinion thing, I think... I am drawn to the idea of a 2 piece unit which allows me the ability to change a cartridge before it's finished. However I have read about cartridges actually burning... is this still occurring? I can not remember how old those posts were. Also I think it was said that they do not provide as much vapor as 3 piece units. How much difference are we talking about? Are 3 pieces heavier? What about cost to maintain for the life of the unit? Does the unit life change?

Number/Initials: I see people refer to units as numbers and honestly... have no idea what you're talking about or where to find out =) 510, 901, 4081, etc. Also PG, VG? I need a dictionary please!

What I am looking for: I am searching/seeking a unit that is as close as possible to smoking an analog cigarette. Criteria I'm concerned with is weight, size and vapor. I'm pretty sure I want an automatic unit (pushing a button seems odd to me). I'd like one that offers pre-filled cartridges (don't have time to fiddle with things), different flavors and most importantly a good range of nicotine levels. I don't want to have to drop straight from 8mg to none. I don't care too much about looks but know I don't want something that's going to make my throat itch or burn (if possible, that might just be the way these things go)

Brands: The one's I have found online that I am initially drawn to are

Green Smoke
Blu (I think the charging case is very cool)
Volcano (I think the charging case is very cool)
Green Tip

Any Help would be VERY helpful. (PS While I am looking to save money in the long run I do understand that there will be an initial investment in these... at this time I am not basing my decision on price, only what the best one for me is)

THANKS!!!

I'm just a noob, but lord knows I have my 2 cents as well.

Here's the point I would love to make. (And I'm no visionary genius here, I learned from the many many wiser folks here and on all the vids I watched.)

I had all the same preconceptions when I began my research. Has to look like an analog. Has to be the same size as an analog. Has to feel the same when I take a drag. Has to be white w/brown tip. I only want tobacco flavor.

After reading how the VAST majority of vapers felt the same at 1st, but very quickly came to change their minds about some or all of the above, I decided to loosen up a bit. I chose to be more open-minded. Not with everything though. No way. Some of the list sure, but no way I see myself ordering flavors. Flavored cigs? C'mon now.

It's 2 days since I got my Joye 510. Today I ordered a 5pk of flavors to try out. lol

The upshot? Please try to keep an open mind. You'll be surprised how many of the things you HAVE to have in an e-cig won't matter a bit within a very short time.

First things first. You will never ever find an e-cig that tastes just like an analog. It just wont happen, so don't even think that way.

Second, an e-cig that is on the light side will give you about as much vapor (smoke) as a regular cigarette. A heavy/dense vapor will give you a lot more than an analog.

Third, A lighter e-cig will give you more flavor and an e-cig that gives you more vapor will give you a little less flavor.

A 901 will give you a lot more flavor, but a 510 will give you a lot more vapor and really give you a kick in the ....

If you find that you want even more flavor and more vapor all in one e-cig, you will have to get a mod like the Chuck, Xhaler, DSE905 or any one of the many nice mods that are out there.

I didn't really expect to find a liquid that tasted exactly like smoke... maybe liquid smoke but that's crazy talk. :D

If the 510 produces more vapor then an analog does smoke then it is DEFINITELY not for me. It's funny from what you wrote I should be looking at models people have trashed for light vapor. Can someone comment more on the models I listed in my original post?

JKBonin - I do see what your saying, it's not the same thing and , truthfully, I don't fully expect it to be... BUT it needs to be comparable. If it's 100% different I don't really think it will work for me, and if that's not possible I'd rather know that, and save my money for the Iron Lung I'll need some day. Taste and color, doesn't matter... it could be neon pink and taste like cotton candy. But the physical act and the feel... that needs to be as close as I can get. Then I'll buy it, try it and see what happens.

Thanks everyone for the help! Keep it coming ;)

Hi Ches,

I would suggest a 510 starter kit from someone like cignot.
As previously stated> it wont be the same as a cig but you will be satisfied.
There is a learning curve with any ecig so be prepared for it to happen to you as it did for all of us.

I would say to try the 510 as it is inexpensive to use and you will see if it is something you want to pursue further after you use it awhile.

The kits come with usually 2 batteries and an atomizer. I would suggest ordering a personal charging case with it and a couple of extra atomizers and a bottle of e liquid of your choice,

This will get you going and i feel satisfy your need for nicotine.

Dont worry about the vapor. You can take as little or as much as you like from each hit.

It takes a little bit of practice but is well worth the time it takes.

it got me off a 40 year smoking habit.

You definately want to get off cigs as soon as you can. It will kill you.

Hope this helps you some. good luck!

Your taste in liquid may change as well. I felt the same ways as you do when I first started. Now I have a ton of tob flavors, which pretty all taste similar and none are among my favs. I even started adding cherry to my cigar flavor and a little menthol makes a killer vape imo.

I have to ask something though... Why is everyone in love with the 510? It's the New Yorker in me. When this many people agree on the same thing there's usually something in the water.

I'm just curious as what features it has that make everyone gravitate to it.

Chesh

the joye 510 atomizer is a well made atomizer.
it has properties like warm vapor output and does good at 3.7 volts.

it produces a good vapor and lasts a long time even with some abuse. lol
there is a lot of people that recommend it as it is an easy ecig to use especially for the beginner user.

everyones tastes are different and that is why there are so many opinions but I do suggest 510s to beginner users because they are cheaper and do a good job. No need to spend a fortune on something you may not like.

Just my .02, as I don't have the experience as many on here do.

With that said, I agree with one of the previous posters about the Kr8 style.

It is a 2 piece, no fuss unit. The flavor is really good, I feel like I'm "hitting a cigarette" and I do get a good amount of vapor when I exhale.

That is what was important for me. I needed to "feel" like I was smoking. I have even converted 2 friends with this and am working on a few others, who are still on the fence, but falling off quickly! ;)

Kr8's are simple in that there is not much tinkering involved.
Charge the battery, put on a cartomizer and your good to go. And the carto's last a good long while. I "could" use the same one all day, but I prefer to change up my flavor throughout the day.

And, I too, thought I would need a tobacco flavor, and that hasn't changed "much". I have found that I like a tobacco flavor with a slight undertone of something sweet, and to "me" that has been 555 flavor and Ry 4.

Lastly, I too found my preferable supplier to be Vapor 4 life. They have an unheard of Customer service policy. None better, imo....

Just my .02..................hope it helps:)

EDIT: I can not comment on the 510. I know it is a favorite here, but I found what works for me on the first try, and don't see a need to buy anything else.

To the OP I thought the same as you do when I first started so I will tell you a little of what I have learned. The three most popular models are the 510, the kr808d, and the 901. The 510 imo is probaly the closest in size to a real cig. The Kr808d is a little longer but thats not a bad thing because the smaller an ecig is the more often the batt will need to be charged.

If you want an ecig that is pretty much hassle free then the kr808d is for you. The 510 and 901 need to be refilled a lot more often and a Kr808d battery lasts longer before needing to be rechaged than either the 901 or 510.

You also need to decide if you want an auto or man battery. An auto is more like smoking but I prefer the man battery because it gives a better hit.

Best vapor for any cig style looking ecig. And it's vapor that draws us here instead of using patches or gum. So it's a big factor - probably equal to nicotine. It's the resistance rating in the Joye 510 atomizer and it runs a bit hotter than the others and hence more atomization and more vapor and in some tobacco flavors - more flavor. The regular kit battery is on the lower end of how long it runs before charging but perhaps a 1/2 hour less than the 901 and usually lasts between 1 and 2 hours. But you have two ;-) so this isn't as big a problem as some make it out to be. However, if you're in a situation where you can't recharger then you need either a passthrough (connected to a usb port via wire - so you have to be stationary or in the car) or a PCC - personal charging case where you can charge on the go. OR what most gravitate to - a 'mod' - a device where you're not tied down to the proprietary batteries and can use long lasting, sometimes higher voltage batteries to where you can go a day without having to recharge and even then, again because of vapor, the Joye 510 atty is stil the atty of choice for mods:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-smoking-discussion/52813-atty-your-mod.html

What is nice, is that now their are adapters that go from the 510 battery or in the case of a mod, a 510 connector to use other attys if you want to 'shop around' and try a 901 or a cartomizer but you still have the best base kit and atty in the Joye 510. Best of both worlds so to speak (others would disagree of course ;-) get the xxxx and get a 510 adapter but some of the other batteries don't work as well with the 510 atty as the regular 510 battery does. Some do though.

And the no box 510 kit at cignot for $35 is really hard to beat for a starter kit. Two full ecigs - 2batts (and a choice of manual or auto or both - suggest staying manual - that way you're in charge) 2 Joye attys, charger, cartridges... get some juice while you're there - free shipping over $59 and you'll need juice so when you vape up the cartridges, you won't be buying cigs - if that's where you're going with this.

And there are 510 "disposeables" now which are proving to be a longer lasting than what you would consider disposeable that can be had for $10 at some places like madvapes. So tht and a bottle of juice and you can give a 510 a try for about what 2 packs of smokes there in NYC would cost you...
I would disagree with the poster that said the lighter models would give you the equivalent of a cigarette and the 510 would be more...I personally find the vapor aoutput from the 510 to be the most similar to a regular cig..in terms of the warmth of the vapor, giving you that full mouth and lung feel and throat hit (that feeling you get in the back of the throat when you take a drag)

HA, am a Brit, so different water company, and different water source :D

I like my 510, it is simple, reliable and it gives a really nice vapour. I do have a charger near my desk, as the batteries do not seem to cope well with prolonged heavy vaping, but other than that I love it. I have several bottles of juice, and several cartridges for different flavours, so when I want to change, I drip one drop of the new juice on the atomiser, swap the cartride and away I go again. I just top the cartridge off every time I take it out, so I can use it without delay when I want to go back to that flavour.....

The only reason I vape so much during the day is that between my sales guy and my Tech director, they get through 50+ cigs a day... so I vape more in the office. at home, a battery will last me all night :)

i would defiantly have to recommend the disposable 510s from mad vapes. you can pick up 3 full 510s for about 30$. it would be an exceptional way to find out if you like them or not. they are auto batts so you could also see if you like that stile or if you want to go with the manuals

as for your not wanting to refill carts. it is not that bad, and dose not take very long to do. plus the flavor is better, no knowing how long the fluid has been in those carts. it will also cost less and give you more options.

if you are still opposed to the 510 i would recommend the kr808d-1 in any of its many names, i am currently using one from cig easy (my first e-cig) and i like quite well so far, but i would also recommend that you get a total of 3 batts as 2 is just not enough to last the day all the time (always better to have a back up).

i hope that this helps you out, and good luck getting off the analogs.

I'll throw in my reccomendation for the KR808D from Vapor4Life (The Vapor King) It was my first ecig (and still my main one) and the customer service and forum community made it very simple and easy and hassle free for me. (Oh, and it's a solid product :p)

As for vapor production, that is something you can reduce through a number of methods - the juice itself and how long you hold the vapor in your lungs for. Vapor dissipates much faster than smoke, so if you hold it for a few seconds longer, it will all but disappear.

Dan.
