Was using "premium" brand ecig with cartomizers. Just picked up an eGo

Hello,
I'm was a smoker for almost 25 years. I decided to give eCigs a try. A local shop had these little cig look alike things so I gave it a shot. The brand they carry is called "premium". I liked the taste and flavor but after several months I got tired of buying those cartomizer$ all the time.
After reading up on eCigs and juice,vaporizers etc... I decided to get an eGo tank model and ordered up juice from Alien Visions. Everything arrived today and I charged up the batteries filled a tank tip and puffed. LOTS of vapor but next to no taste at all. ? I tried Gamel, Flu Cured and Boba's Bounty.
Gamel had no taste, none, I mean I can't taste anything. Next I tried the Flu Cured and I could sense a faint hint of something. I tried the Boba's last. That I can taste, but just barely.
I'm wondering why this is. With the cheap "premium" cig look alike I get lots of flavor (not a great flavor but it's there) With the eGo and well reviewed juice I get no taste. All juices were used in new tank tips, and fully charged batteries. It cures the nic fit but it would be nice to be able to taste what everybody is rave-ing about. Any ideas?

the juices you have are not the problem . the tank atomizers are junk in my opinion . just pick up some boge cartomizers or the ego dual coil cartomizers and you will be surprised how much those tanks mute the flavor . in theory the tanks seem like a good idea but they require way too much attention . with the cartomizers use them for a few days or so and toss them .some people clean them to get a few more days out of them but to me thats not worth the hassle. Its kind of like how some analog smokers will dig butts out of their ash trays to stretch a few dollars as well.

BTW I think Premium PR110 is a KR808D-1 and that would be able to use cartos from Vapor4Life, SmokelessImage Volt, Bloogplanet Maxxfusion, Halocig G6

And re tanks - yeah some people complain of lack of flavor and leaking. but the batteries are good. You can use lots of different kinds of 510 and Ego cartomizers and well as drip on normal 510 atomizers with a drip tip. The Boge cartos are the simplest and most popular. the 3 ohm may be easier to learn on, and then on big batteries many prefer the hotter 2 ohm ones. The Boges are stuffing cartos don't need a syringe. I am a moderate vaper and can get a week's use out of one with thin juices (20% or less VG) and I avoid any juices that drop a lot of flavoring sediment. You need to fill them completely (18-24 drops since they are 1ml cartos), clean up, let settle on different sides. Then keep them damp to prevent singeing.

I had no issues with the eGo tank system other than the flav and vapor wasn't what I was hoping for. So I bought a couple of Mad Vapes eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizers to try and... WHOA! More flavor, vapor and TH than any cart or tank. I immediately reordered twenty more. At $2.49 each, it's a bargin. Most will last a month. Reviews and discussions HERE and THERE.

Alien Visions only carries VG liquids which are pretty thick and don't generally wick very well in tank systems.

I second the eGo Mega Dual Coil carto's and while the flat tips are out of stock at MadVapes, they still have lots of the round tipped ones although I prefer the flat tip myself.

Did you clean out all the primer from the atty? Blow it out really good. Sometimes the tanks start to improve the more you use them.

Hey thanks for the tip. I was not aware of a primer. But now that you mention it the eGo atomizer did have a oily look in there when I first opend the kit. After a solid day of vaping I think I'm getting more flavor. Either that or I am more "in tune" with my taste buds. I think I will go for the eGo dual coil cart not only in hopes of getting more flavor but these tank tips leak and are a pain to fill. Thanks again

Thanks. I have both the eGO and a KR808 (PR-110). I filled one of the carts for the KR808 and I'm getting much more flavor than with the Ego tank tips. I'm going to ditch the eGo tank tips for a few of the eGo dual coil carts. Once I get the eGo/flavor thing sorted out I'm donating the two KR808's I have to a friend who want's to try ecigs. Good idea. Most people vape cartos for their favorite juices. Also try some Boge 2.0 ohm cartos on the Ego (the most popular cartos on big battery 510's). And with a standard 510 atty and 510 drip tip, you can also drip on the Ego which is handy for testing juices and vaping any that are too thick to work well on cartos.

Yeah in theory the tank tips sounded good. But it seems much better to have a 5ml carto. Won't even need to take juice to work with me. I'm finding the eGo battery last's me almost a whole day before I just decide to charge it thinking "Gees this battery MUST be running low by now" What an improvment over the KR808 in terms of battey life.

Wow. Waiting for the eGo dual coil carto's seems like a lifetime. These tank tips are horrible.
If not for the burnt taste, mess, constant cleanings, lack of flavor, and poor vapor the tank tips would be perfect.

In addition to personal preference, a lot of it is what you get used to. I switched from the V2 two-piece system to an eGo-T and didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. A few months later, I ordered a small round of V2 cartridges to try again, and really didn't care for them after a few months of the eGo-T.

I think a lot of my initial problem was the primer in the atomizer, since it got better after a few tank refills. Also, many fluids get better after they've been opened and exposed to air for a while. Also make sure you don't fill the tank completely, as it seems to need a little space left to wick properly. Burnt taste, lack of flavor, and poor vapor can be caused by poor wicking (or a dud atomizer). As for constant cleanings, you may be cleaning it too much so you're never really getting a good soaking of juice. I clean mine every week or two and have no issues with performance or longevity...

I agree. Took me a few days but I finaly figured out one atomizer never puts out as much vapor as the other one.

You mentioned I may be cleaning the atomizer too often, and I agree, but I only clean it to get rid of the burnt taste. So maybe the "good " atomizer is getting too hot causing the burnt taste?

I orderd a few dual coil atomizers and I will give them a go.
If they don't perform better I will stick with the tank tips.
I took a drag of a "real cig" today and I'd rather vape.

This makes a huge difference. I used tanks for about 4 months. They can start out kind of dry and tasteless. There will be a time when they work pretty good and then gradually degrade. In theory the atty can be cleaned but I've had no such luck.

Usually burnt taste is from the coil burning too hot from not having any juice (or enough juice) to vaporize. So if you clean it, I'd give it a day or so to dry out, and then when you refill it, take a few deep puffs without pushing the button and let it sit for about 15 minutes for the wick to soak up new fluid before you use it. I don't like to clean mine unless it really needs it, because it seems to take forever to get the system really primed back up with good juice.

I'd also recommend trying a different juice, a lot of Alien Visions stuff is 100% VG, which can taste duller but more importantly may be too thick for the eGo-T to properly wick it from the tank to the coil. I think the manufacturer recommends a max of 30% VG, although I've seen mixed reports of both success and failures with 50% and higher VG. You could probably dilute the 100% VG with distilled water or another base, but obviously you'll lose some flavor, so you may want to just try a new juice until you get the hang of it and want to start experimenting. You may also want to pick up a new atomizer to try with the new juice, there's a good chance that yours is seriously burnt after all the issues you've had.

100% VG may still be too thick to work well with the dual coil cartomizer. I just ordered a couple new atty's, but as cheap as those cartomizers are, I definitely need to try those out!

I got the dual coil cartomizers today and all I can say is WOW!
Huge vapor, and tastes great! They say they are 5ml carto's, using a graduated syringe I get about 3.75 ml on the first fill. These thing's are HUGE, a bit taller than the eGo battery.
I got 5 of these carto's just to try them. If I get a week or more out of each carto I will be verry happy.
They fit on the eGo battery perfectly and appear to be well made. I like the fact that they are clear so you can always see how much juice is in them.

I have been Vaping for the last hour on and off and the 100% VG from Alien Visions seems to work just fine with the dual coil cartos. I may need to get a weaker strength juice. I am using 24mg because that was the strength I was using with the little kr808? batteries and the litle cartomizers that fit on the kr808 but with the eGo and these dual coil cartomizers 24mg seems pretty darn strong. Must be the quality of the vape that really makes the juice seem like it's on steroids. I will try 18mg or less next time I order.

Almost forgot. There has been much discussion about what people tatse in Boba's Bounty eJuice from Alien Visions.
I taste a tabacco blend and just a touch of brown sugar. Which is good because I love brown sugar.
