Got my semi-annual bronchitis episode 2 weeks ago, as I've been smoking for 20 years this year (nice anniversary). I could barely take a drag without coughing my brains out. That coupled with my 4 year old grabbing a cigarette I dropped on the floor and putting it in her mouth, and I said the hell with it, let me go check out this vape thing. My Mom quit smoking the day she went in for lung surgery to have a "questionable spot" removed, and has been vaping since.

So I head down to Honest Vapor in Harrison, NY, after an hour long discussion with the owners there, and a few samples of their in house juice, and I say what the heck, I'll give it try. Wonderful people by the way.

2 Ego Twists, a bunch of juice, and that was Saturday. Today is July 4th, and I haven't had a cigarette since then. I can't even believe it! It wasn't even my intention to quit, I just wanted to get through the bronchitis. But every time I had the urge, I preferred the taste of the vape to the real thing. I remember telling the owner of Honest Vapor that "maybe I would go half and half with this until the 3 cartons I have left are smoked, and she said, "just try to go all vape, I bet you'll be surprised". Well slap my azz and call me Sally, I'll say it again, I can't even believe it!!!

I always thought I would have to put a major plan in place, "get ready", read a bunch of books, go to some meetings, get hypnotized, stuck with pins, walk through fire, and certainly fail at least 10 times before I really quit smoking cigarettes. Instead, it just happened, real naturally, and without a whole lot of drama or stress. This is a revolutionary idea, brilliant, genius, and it's going to save so many lives, my own included.

I'm just.... THANKFUL! And even though it's only been 4 days, I'm feeling very confident that I have smoked my last real cigarette. I hope everyone has the same experience as me, and now that I'm looking, I see ecigs everywhere. Hell it's even kinda cool. I don't litter anymore. I don't stink anymore. I don't fear cancer anymore. Just, wonderful!!!

Good job!! It's a miracle invention isn't it?? You'll be surprised how many people here have similar stories; mine was one. There can be setbacks, but vaping is it for me and thousands of others lucky (or smart) enough to try it out. Soooo much better than smoking, and it's almost like we never quit! It seems almost too easy...

Vape on! :vapor:

I hear you! I ended up with a terrible case of bronchitis, which turned into chronic bronchitis, and eventually spent 5 days in the hospital due to pneumonia. When I got out of the hospital I continued to smoke even though I could hardly breathe. Thereafter got diagnosed with Pleuricy, was put on a Nebulizer and inhalers (both long acting and rescue.) Fast forward 8 months and I decided to start vaping again, without the plan of quitting analogs right away. In the last 17 days of vaping I have gone from 1.5 ppd of analogs to averaging 4-5 analogs a day! Wow! Not only that I'm completely off the nebulizer now, and mostly off the rescue inhaler! I'm feeling grateful and glad to be back vaping. Not only that, I PREFER it.

Welcome and Happy Vaping :vapor:

Welome to ECF and Vaping, glad to hear the transition was so smooth for you, a lot of people do struggle some. Soon you will be wondering why you didn't do it sooner, well at least I did.

and soon you will refer to vaping as "the real thing" and ciggs will be a distant ugly memory

vape on

Same thing here. Co Worker was hooked on vaping, i got into it for a way to vape mon-fri during business hours without smelling like smoke * i work with the public * and to slightly improve my health, with full intentions of smoking here and there and when at the bar. Within 2 days of vaping I was totally turned off of real cigs. I tried a family members after smelling the then sweet second hand smoke on day 2 and almost gaged, totally disgusting. I have been smoking since 13, am now 23, and was smoking full flavored harsh cigs.

I admit my quitting story isn't a case of illness, thankfully, though I remember one time smoking half a pack in a night where I was sick as a dog the next day..but that didn't make me quit, shockingly. I quit when I started dating my highschool sweetheart, partly for myself, partly for her, partly to give her brother incentive, as he apparently jumped on the vaping wagon at some point but still smokes analogs as well. Figured if I could completely kick the analogs, he might get some inspiration or some such, or at least see it was possible to go smoke-free entirely. So far it's been almost a month and a half and I haven't touched an analog at all, though I have a friend sending me a few clove cigarettes simply because I wanted to taste them again after many years of not having one, in order to find an eliquid that was somewhat close. I used to smoke mostly menthols as they were easier on my lungs and I'm a huge fan of most mentholated eliquid I've tried so far as well, so overall I don't miss the tobacco taste that some people complain about. Hopefully you'll find a similar reliable flavor you like, while it won't be your usual brand of cigarettes, there are plenty of other things that I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Welcome to the vape side!

I'm happy to hear this! It's great. I wish everyone had the chance to try vaping...it really warms my heart to see these vape shops having such an amazing effect on the community. The first week on this forum I complained that there wasn't shops in my area but then I started looking...and YES their everywhere. My boyfriend and I were driving to get dinner one afternoon the other day and he says "Cool Vapes"? We had discovered ANOTHER vape shop! Haha...once you start looking...you will see them everywhere. It's a wonderful thing...we're happy to have you in the family!

Stay strong!

Another congrats and welcome from me! I hear a lot of cold turkey stories, each one is awesome...I did it for like 3 days a few years ago on old hardware but eventually gave up, this time it took me a week or so to taper off but I've been smoke-free for more than 3 weeks. Still look at the old pack of Marlboros on top of the fridge with 3-4 cigs left, but instead of wondering if I'm going to get a craving and need to give in mostly all I think about is how stale and nasty they must be getting...

Great story, mine's similar to yours. Just wait until your taste and smell come back, get to feeling better and breathing better. Good choice.

Can't wait. Still having major "non nicotene" type withdrawl, but it's not really all that bad. Realizing triggers much more now. I also seem to be vaping a lot more than I smoked (12mg juices), but I figure that will slow down a bit as I mature in vapordom..
