Water to Clean Cartos Question

Hi everyone. I've read through all the threads here and I'm a bit confused.

I noticed boiling cartos to get them clean is very popular but are you using tap water or distilled water for the boil? I would think tap water would be bad what with all the crap added to it.

Also, do you use vodka to remove any remaining flavors from the filler or will a boil do that too? When would you use vinegar to clean a carto?

I know it's easier to buy new ones but when you're on a budget, you gotta cut corners where you can. Many thanks for your help.

When boiling ss cartos, I use regular old tap water for 3-4 boils. I then flush them thoroughly with PGA, (you can soak them overnight in the PGA in a shot glass instead, if you like), and a final boil is then done with distilled water.

And I never, ever, EVER go thru all of this trouble unless I have at least 10 cartos needing to be cleaned at once. I just chuck the dirty ones all into a box until I have enough to bother with the cleaning.

Just want to add an observation: I paint with watercolors and keep a small bottle of water on hand for wetting my paints. I noticed that no matter how well I cleaned and sanitized the bottle - including boiling - black mold would collect on the walls of the bottle. When I started filling the bottle with distilled water instead of tap the problem went away. It is always a good idea to give a final and rinse with distilled or purified water after tap has been used.

Best thing I've done for my budget was to get a lighter eliquid, pop it in a carto tank, and it'll last long enuf that you can throw it away.

I never had very much luck cleaning carts.. Always had issues after my boils.. I had moderate success flushing with distilled water however

I've been using normal tap water to clean mine... starting to wonder if that's part of why I'm having so much trouble getting them to last more than a week and a half.

Might try distilled water or vodka next.

Like you I'm trying to cut corners to vape on the cheap. I pull my cartos apart, rinse poly and gauze with cold tap water and set on a dish towel to dry. Then rinse the Atty/connection in cold water, toss in a shot glass with 70% rubbing alcohol. Let them sit for a bit shake them in the glass till I see black bits floating around lol. Rinse real good and let dry. Test fire before you rewrap and enjoy.

Hi All,

Although I use Echo cartomizers, this should work on any filter-type carto. It has worked great for months. BTW: You should use the SmokTek Cleaning Kit for this.


1: Attach the top end of your cartomizer to one end of the rubber tubing.
2: Push the other end of the tubing on to the end of the syringe.
3: Warm 1 cup of distilled water (do not use tap water) to hot but not boiling. Do this by a sink so you can dispose of the flushed dirty water.
4: Insert the bottom of your cartomizer into the hot water and draw the plunger on the syringe all the way up pulling hot water up through the cartomizer. Empty the hot water you have into the sink. Do this 14-15 times to get the old liquid out. Be careful not to push to quickly or the rubber tubing may detach.
5: Remove the majority of water from the cartomizer over the sink by briskly plunging the syringe in/out with air until most of the spray tapers off.
6: Place ¼ cup of isopropyl alcohol (91%) in a separate container and pull into the cartomizer. Empty the alcohol into the sink. Repeat this 3-4 times.
7: Repeat step 6 then blow through the top of the cartomizer into the sink a few times until the spray tapers off.
8: Repeat steps 1 thru 7 for each cartomizer you clean.

Then, let the cartomizers dry overnight and you have like-new cartomizers!

If you would like to experiment with the CE2 clearomizers, they are ultra easy to clean and don't cost much more than the standard poly-fill ones. I cant get about 20 ml of juice through one of them before I have to toss it. This is a clear juice. The darker or heavier ones it will vary which is why I tend to get thinner clearer juices now.

i do elieve a 10ml 0r 20ml syringe and a carto condom will do baout the same thing as that kit, and then you will have an extra 5bucks.. to buy more cartos with....
