Water Vapor?

I have a question...I keep seein on the forum where ppl say "all we're exhaling is water vapor" and I want to know: How is heating up PG/VG/flavorings enough that it smokes producing water vapor? I don't get it. Can someone explain how we are "exhaling water vapor"?

The juice that we vape is made up from a Mixture of PG/VG and nicotine that is delivered using the two VG/PG carriers.PG and VG are just used as a carrier for the nicotine absorption into the body
The chemical composition of PG and VG being C3H8O2 (3parts carbon 8 parts hydrogen and 2 parts oxygen.)
Remember the composition of water being H2O (2parts hydrogen 1 part oxygen.)
So. as you can see, the elemental components in VG/PG are similar to that of water, hence the use of the term when describing the exhaled vapor. Hope this helps

It draws the water from our mouths and body to produce the vapor we exhale. That's why everyone recommends drinking plenty of water so you don't get dehydrated.

Think along the likes of "fog" or "steam".

There is no "burning" of anything and no "smoke". Merely "vaporizing" a liquid to "gas".

Yeah. Like what comes out at a tea kettle's spout. Do you call it smoke?

The water gets heated, turns to a gas (is vaporized), then hits the cool air and condenses into small steam particles. The same thing happens with the PG/VG etc. in a PV. (Note the "gap" between the kettle's spout and the steam...where it's still a vapor before it condenses.)

Hence vapor. Although it's more of a condensate/fog by the time it mixes with air and cools.

Then the big debate comes next...is it MOSTLY water vapor? What % of it is PG/VG/Flavor/nic vs h2o? lol.

Water-> water vapor-> condensate (steam)

We thought that was your QUESTION. It's not defensive per se. It can be a sore subject, but meh. Nobody's mad or anything. It's all good.

It's that the condensate's small particles pick up moisture from the air and your body like others have said. The rest is the detailed explaination.

However, it's only "touchy" in that there are "smoking laws" in place, and e-cigs are not smoking. See?
So scientifically, medically and in the vaping community know-how, it isn't smoke.


We usually let it pass but your question causes people to address it because you basically asked what it is.

I'm pretty sure it's been answered though. It's NOT ACTUALLY water vapor...it's just CALLED water vapor.

Yep, it's mostly whatever base liquid is in your juice. Either PG or VG. They've done tests to determine what's in the vapor, and the majority of the vapor in the tests was vaporized PG.

Although you'd be correct to challenge the validity of that as well.

But the root of what you're asking, I think, is whether calling it 'water vapor' is a misnomer. I've always thought it was a marketing ploy to make it all seem more innocuous. Not that I think our vapor is harmful, but I don't think it is 'water vapor' either.

Just my opinion, I'm not a scientist and not looking for a fight.

I think this sums it up best. I've always heard "water vapor," never "mostly water vapor" until now, though "liquid vapor" is probably the most accurate term. Sounds a lot more ambiguous than "water," though, so I can understand the urge to simplify.

And I thought they used to mostly say mostly. Of course, it gets abbreviated. Technically it isn't vapor either, because it's visible. If it was vapor it would be in a gaseous state, very hot, and invisible.

There are entire 1000+ post threads on here just about "what do we call it?". Steam, fog, condensate, vapor, ..........
