There has been mention by some of the membership that they use WoT. If you're using the browser addon, remove it immediately.

It has come to light that WoT has been blatantly selling user info gleaned from the addon including your email address.

It's hinted that Ghostery and Adblock Plus may be doing something similar. I'll do some digging to see if this is true.

Thanks for keeping tabs on this. I've been using uBlock origin for some time, in case it comes up in your digging!

I, too, use UBlock Origin. Awesomely good addon that's far superior to Adblock Plus in numerous ways.

OK..... Ghostery and Adblock Plus aren't doing the same thing...

However... The way Ghostery's Privacy Policy reads, I'd be somewhat leery of using that particular addon. As for Adblock Plus.. They sold out to the devil. 'Nuff said.

@retired1 can you expand on why adblock is a poor choice and why UBlock Origin is superior please?

Adblock Plus sold out to the devil and now takes money to "whitelist" advertising. That alone makes it something I would avoid like the plague.

Ublock Origin has a smaller footprint, is more responsive, and takes less resources.

I just started using UBlock Origin on the recommendations here, and WOW, what a difference it makes. Now when I read thru Yahoo news, pages load fast w/o all the ads loading up. First one of these I've tried that actually seems to work. Thanks.

I have been using Ghostery for years. It works very well. I have read their privacy policy and they can't do anything without my permission. Works very well for me.:2c:

The problem with Ghostery is they, too, collect data. While you must "opt-in" in order to allow them to do anything with it, how many other companies out there have said the same thing, only to change things to their advantage afterwards?

I'd much prefer that they do not collect data at all unless you expressly give them permission to do so.

Only if you're still using **cough** **GAG** Safari.

Chrome and Firefox both can utilize Ublock Origin.
