Thanks for all the thoughts! No hospital tonite! The Doc wants to flush IV fluids at home tomorrow.
Good news!!!
Now you get to play Mr. Nurse!

LD, is it the wire that you got from the vapemeet? If it is, its 28gauge kanthal. Also, just my opinion, but I have a hard time getting the wick through the coil after I've built it, so I wrap around the silica with a sewing pin or a straightened paper clip inserted to keep it nice and straight. You will figure it out, bro. And what works for one person doesn't always work for the next. Just experiment and have fun with it. There is no perfect way to wrap a coil, but there are bad/dangerous ways. So just be safe and enjoy learning.

It is that wire! (methinks) I may also have a small piece that came with the Phoenix. hoping i can find some silica in da box to use as i wait for more vapemail. i like the idea of using a paperclip with the wick, threading, i foresee might be difficult unless you hook it as Bad Boy B (not bill, he is legend) mentioned.

I wouldn't advise you go subohm till those air holes are larger.. Safe batteries, knowing your wraps, gauge and all the little things. Going subohm just means really knowing safety and following the rules. My .6 ohm coil quite honestly is perfect right now and has been going great for 5 days. Without the proper air flow though it's risky and stock holes aren't good...

i know little about battery chemistry. The mech batteries i have are 2 EH and one EFest IMR, 2 of them are high drain. 18350, 500 & 650.

i think i am going to shoot for 1-1.2ohm. how many wraps with a 28g would that be?

No sub ohm for me. Hanging out just under 1(.9) to just over (1.2) is working fine for me. I've read up and done all the research... I could make that move, but I'm good here. Besides, I don't have enough juice to sustain prolonged sub ohmage!

i have been holding on to some 6mg (half my usually level) bottles that i have specifically for use in RDAs so that i dont over do it. headaches ensue when i have too much nic.

Actually, LD, I think that wire from the meet is 30ga. I'm comparing it to my other kanthal that I know is 30ga, and it appears to be the same. I am currently vaping a 1.4ohm coil in my Igo-L (4 wraps). I haven't properly modified my airholes yet. They are poor-man modified by sticking the tip of a corkscrew through the hole and wiggling/twisting until the hole widens a little. I still haven't put a second hole in my Igo-W, so that one also has a single coil at the moment. It has a 2.2ohm microcoil (7 or 8 wraps, I can't remember). The paper clip/sewing pin tip is especially helpful for microcoiling, at least for me. :D Have you thought about getting another lesson in building from L in the vape group? He's a really nice guy, and usually eager to help out.

Goooood evening VVVers!

All I can tell you, LD is I got 1.6 ohms on a loose (spacing between, not loose to the wick) 4-wraps using 32awg kanthal. 5-6 should get you into a low 1+ catagory, depending on the thickness of the wick. I think 28awg is near 1/2ohm per inch. (That's why I got 29awg)
I'm not comfortable placing my coils close together at this stage.
I murdered an eGo battery doing that.
It's still out on my sidewalk with its button light on.(been there for 6 hours now)

JPF happy you don't have to take the Wifey to the hospital. Nasty places those...

Thanks Lisa, wish i could make it on saturday to get another lesson. its tough to get outta the house during the week after work to just about anything. he was really nice. i figure i just gotta experiment and figure out what works best for me. i did just read a tutorial on reddit that was useful.

Think i might try this after a few attempts see if i cant 'nail' it :)

@LD- I only say this because I don't want any batteries exploding in the face of anyone, not even my least liked ECF members. Not that you're one of those folks, just sayin'...

Don't build or rebuild coils unless you have a way to check the ohms/resistance after you're done. A multimeter is good, but only if you know it's telling the truth by testing it on other atty's with known resistance. A Vamo, Z-max, and many other inexpensive mods can check atty resistance. After that matter is taken care of, the number of wraps will depend on the size/thickness of the wicks wrapped as well as the gauge of the resistance wire.

You best get used to building your own coils, you have an Ithika on it's way to you.

Edit:
@jac: sorry about your Ego. That pun never gets old...

FYI- coils can touch each other when done correctly. Here's a dry burn on a 17 wrap coil I built, 27g Kanthal @1.5 ohms

It worked a little too well, the wick couldn't keep up.

Thanks Snarf. Are you saying i am one of your least favorite ECF members!!?? haha
I have a vamo and a CVI that both can check resistance. i wouldnt mind having a box ohm reader. maybe down the road..
With the incoming Ithaka, this is why I am rushing to learn to build coils. I'd like to have a grasp on it before it arrives (well.... i would like it to arrive today....) The igo-l seems perfect to learn on, with room for error. i like your wrap, i may try to emulate it! :)

I always torch my resistance wire before making a coil, mostly because it seems to make the wire a little easier to bend. That wrap was pretty, but heated up too much wick for e-liquid to feed it. I wrapped the wire around a clean drill bit and squeezed it together with reverse tweezers while torching ti to get it to hold it's shape. The wick had to go through afterwards, which is my least favorite way to make a coil. It was like threading 17 needles with one try, very frustrating. I don't recommend it. 10 to 12 wraps of a larger diameter/thicker wick would have been easier and worked better. YMMV

I'm sitting here waiting for the Doc to call back, Wifey may be going back to the hospital tonite.

AND - Now So Much Better To Know "WIFEY" Is Going To Be With "YOU" At HOME . . .:rickroll:

Just Know - while I will never "like" one of "your" post when you tell "Us" about what is happening . . .

I Am Always Sending GOOD VIBES - To "You BOTH" . . . :D

11 minutes till freedom
11 hours and 11 minutes till my next shift...

I used to love 12 hour shifts because I had so many days off. However, it was just work, drive to and from and sleep for me on the days I did work. It worked fine because I was single and the only "people" who depended on me had 4 legs and fur. He had run of the yard while I was gone so we just snuggled when I got back home. Those were the days, I guess.
