09/12 Entry #4 . . .

Okay - Finally remembered what I wanted to post last night that I wanted to ask . . .

Very Seriously - I need some assitance (HEY - No Comments Needed . . . Just Sayin' . . .;)), especially from someone who is an IT Professional (and I know there are at least a couple of "You" here - just cannot remember who) that is willing to help "Me" Crash & Burn "My" Laptop Computer so I can reinstall EVERYTHING from scratch . . . The Hard-Drive really NEEDS a Fresh and Clean re-install (I've had the computer now since '07) . . . Now here is the kicker  I never downloaded all the programs for the "Stuff" that came with "My" Dell Laptop . . . I know that I do have the Windows XP Professional CD, but nothing else . . .

Anyone willing and able to take up the challenge . . .

Uncle, do you have any specific software that you need to conserve? I.e. something downloaded/copied that you don't have the install disc for...
The original reboot disc for your computer also comes with a ton of system software and drivers for your sound-card, video card, modem, etc... as well as a bunch of crap-ware that the mfg got paid to include.
If you can download drivers for your hardware, installation disc for your software then you just need to backup all important files/photos etc...

Bbs gotta hit the grocery store...

Try Kingsoft Office Suite. I have it on my laptop and android tablet. It's free and works really well.

Open Office is also a very good option. Worth looking into both!

Apache OpenOffice - The Free and Open Productivity Suite

First - I can back up all the files I need to save (Doc/Picture/Emails/Etc) . . . As for Programs - I have all of those CD's and then some that I downloaded from the Internet . . .

Now here is the tricky part - All that came with and that I have from Dell is the OS: Windows XP Pro Version CD . . . Nothing else - No system software and/or drivers for the sound-card, video card, modem, etc . . . AND - That is where the problem is - more importantly, although on an older computer I tried - I failed horribly to search, find, and download the correct ones - So I had to trash that one . . . :( AND - I DO NOT WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;)

I have been gone for the week so I am way late saying this: Congratulations Schnarph! Happy to see you get the prize!! Of course, I am still hoping for one since I have promised it to a very nice lady who is on limited income and really needs to have a trouble free carto! Perhaps this week?

Hello all! Nice to see the VVV family alive and kicking.

Interpim, that is so nice of you! I like MS Office and am so used to using it that I don't want the learning curve with a new one. I broke down and bought the upgrade when I got a computer with Windows 7 on it. I have found the spreadsheet formulas are off by a few cents when I don't have matching OS and program. It's crazy but I fought with it twice and both times it magically resolved when I upgraded Office.

It's not that big of a deal actually... the place I work bought a crap ton of computers a while back, and they didn't want to install the included software because it "wasn't approved" for our network. They were going to throw out all the installation disks, but I asked if I could have them... I probably have 20-25 copies of MS Office. If I was certain that just the code would work I could just send him that, but I'm not sure if the codes are tied ot the disks or not

If he downloads the trial version, he should be able to activate it with the code.
