Well, you see, to me, a candidate who is on board with a "near and dear" issue IS the best candidate overall.
We all know that campaign promises per se are not worth the paper they are written on. However, if somebody campaigns with one issue, chances are better that they will not renege on that one issue, at least.
(And yes, you may call me disillusioned. Life will have that effect on some people.)
