Hello everyone. I made it a week today without a smoke. I'm doing pretty well. I was depressed and emotional for a few days, that has passed and I feel pretty good. I have some questions for everyone:

-I'm getting really sick of leaking and sucking juice through the cartridge. Would a cartomizer take care of that? Any dangers with getting the juice on my lips and in my mouth? It's happened a lot.

- I'm getting a nasty taste in my mouth at times, not sure if it's just goes with the juice, if it's because I've gotten it in my mouth or maybe it's my juice. I think it's the PG or VG I taste.

- Do I need to be careful vaping and getting the fluids near anyone in my family?

- I'm really surprised, but I haven't really coughed up much crap. This surprised me after smoking 22 years I figured I'd be hacking up a lot.

Lastly, one week in my taste and smell may have recovered some, but not much. It's seems like my body isn't bouncing back as quick as some.

Thanks!!!!

Woot! Congrats on a WEEK. That's huge :) Aren't you proud of yourself? I'm still amazed and been vaping since February. Good for you.

-I'm getting really sick of leaking and sucking juice through the cartridge. Would a cartomizer take care of that? Any dangers with getting the juice on my lips and in my mouth? It's happened a lot.

It tastes nasty but I didn't have ill effects from juice leakage and I ate a good amount of juice by error. Straight nic juice on my lips made them burn/tingle. Yes, cartos will be a big help with that. What kit did you get? If it looks like a cigarette get regular resistance cartos. If you got a fat batt model that looks like a sharpie it's fine to use 2.0 LR cartomizers. That will give you a warmer, stronger cigarette-like vape.

- I'm getting a nasty taste in my mouth at times, not sure if it's just goes with the juice, if it's because I've gotten it in my mouth or maybe it's my juice. I think it's the PG or VG I taste.

You need to drink water then some more. If your juices are all tasting funky you're probably dehydrated. It'll take a couple of days to recover juice tastes from that. I measure out my water these days. Think camel crossing the desert. The biggest downside to vaping I'm aware of is how bad it dehydrates you.

Do need to be careful vaping and getting the fluids near anyone in my family?

Keep juice bottles away from kids and animals. Kisses and hugs are fine as long as there's no juice on your lips :) You may have a little residual on your hands but it's not a big deal. Don't rub your eyes with juice on your hands. Ouch!

- I'm really surprised, but I haven't really coughed up much crap. This surprised me after smoking 22 years I figured I be hacking up a lot.

Me too. I expected a quart of tar to come up and it never did.

Lastly, one week in my taste and smell may have recovered some, but not much. It's seems like my body isn't bouncing back as quick as some.

You'll be detoxing for a while. 4000 chemicals from cigs exiting your body takes a bit. Water will help push the toxins through faster. I did a light body cleanse (not a harsh colon-blow) after a week or so. That really helped. It takes a bit to get to full speed. I'm uber-confident you'll feel much better as you heal from the damage from cigarettes.

Happy dance on your week smoke and tobacco FREE!

Awesome, good job. I didn't seriously start hacking up crap until about 3 to 4 weeks. After a little bout of coughing my lungs feel pretty good.

I get juice in my mouth sometimes, hasn't hurt me yet. As long as you don't drink the bottle you're fine.

If the "nasty taste" is a burning plastic taste you're probably burning your cart; it's dry at the atomizer end. Make sure you keep them full. If it always tastes bad, maybe you need a new juice.

Keep your juice out of the reach of pets and children.

Finally, it can take a year to heal. Don't be in a rush, everyone is different.

Congrats on your 1 week mark!! Keep up the good work! :)

#1 - I never used carts but I rarely have trouble with cartomizers and juice getting on my lips, unless of course I saturate it too much. If you're careful filling the cartomizer then it shouldn't be an issue. I don't think it's great to drink the juice or anything, but many of us have gotten juice on our lips here and there and haven't died. :) I think the main risk is if people start making their own juice and handling nicotine in large quantities.

#2 I'm not experienced enough to help with the funny taste, though I know I've noticed major differences between juice vendors and quality.

#3 It's important to keep your juices in a safe place away from children and pets. You don't want someone drinking it by mistake and getting sick. I don't have any children to worry about, but I have pets, so I make sure to keep everything in the kitchen cabinets.

#4 You don't have to hack up stuff after you quit smoking. :) I quit in December 2010 and never coughed or hacked up anything, but I could tell I felt better as the days passed. Everyone is different especially with taste recovery any such. I guess you can relate it to people getting over the cold or flu -- everyone does so at their own pace.

...I think the Boodle covered the whole kit pretty well...drink LOTSSA water...all that vapor you are exhaling is water vapor and it's coming from YOU...a little juice on your hands is OK, switching to cartos can help the juice on the lips problem, also trying drawing a little easier on your PV as well...did I say drink LOTSSA water...I was a 3ppd/40yr smoker and did cough up some gunk but not nearly what I expected...I've been funkarette free for almost 2 mos, my smell came back pretty quickly but my taste is just now starting to come around...hang in there, it will all be good...congrats on the week and HAPPY VAPING..........

With a cartomizer fill it as much as you can then lie it down for 15 minutes or more then blow out the centre air tube . I also use a drip tip to minimize and juice getting to my mouth . If it does not draw well at first the may have fluid in the air tube so either blow it out again or be real jarful drawing on it .

Hey mjt, we have the same quit date! I had a half a pack left, so I cheated and had a few on Monday and Tuesday - it was kinda rough, but I haven't bought any for a week!!!

I can't offer much wisdom, except to use this wonderful forum. The 510's are all over the place, and there are threads specifically for that model. I learned to use the "search" tool and found heaps of great tips and such - more than I could read. Another great resource is YouTube, if you're short on time. Search for the vids on your 510 and you'll probably come across some really good stuff on how to clean and operate it....

Luck!

This is the kit I bought to get started, I guess is a cigarette type?

Mega 510 starter kit

Hoosier has your kit - same manufacturer with cartomizers instead of cartridges for $27. Not trying to make you feel bad about your purchase. I paid $190 for my mall kit and it was the best money I ever spent. Just in case you love it and want a backup. The thing missing in Hoosier's kit is an atomizer to test juices. Nice that you got one with the kit you have.

Congrats mjt!!!

I quit the analogs about 10 days ago now, my observations as a new vaper:

- I found with my original eGo/510 cart & atty I was putting a few too many drops on the bridge/atomizer to prime it and overfilling the cart; I was getting mouth/lipfuls of juice on the first couple drags or flooding the atty. I've gone to 1-2 drops max on the atty after cleaning, and stopped drawing as hard/taking longer draws to solve it. Cartos or tanks might suit you better too, perhaps less mess/juice in the mouth but there's +/- to them too.

- I've been coughing up some dark gunk the last couple days, but way less than I expected, too, having smoked Kamel Reds for 15 pack-years. The morning cough and dry coughing during the day has really subsided, though.

To celebrate, I'd say go buy some new juices or try out some different hardware. ECF might have some recommendations floating around somewhere. :)

Congrats on analog free! Keep up the good work :) Leaks are a pain, I am using cartos and a G6 form Halo. When I fill mine I keep the rubber stoppers on, let sit for 10 minuets and then wipe of the bottoms before putting on batts, that works for me. I did kill a couple of batts from leaks before. bnrk

Dang, guess I did pay too much. I've bought everything from that supplier so far. Is this who you buy from?

I haven't been concerned about prices and such so far, because I just wanted to get started. Now I'm starting to care. I had no idea what I was doing at first and just needed to buy something to get going. I need a juice maker too that can be trusted. I don't want Chinese e-juice.

Congrats! Lots of good advice from everyone; take it. I would also highly recommend cartos.

I am here: Google Maps

yup! @mjt if you find the tanks a little underwhelming at some point, so did I...buying cartos for my 510 did the trick for me! I used to smoke about half a pack while using the tank. The day my cartos came in, I finished the two cigarettes I had left and that was the last time I smoked.
