So my employer just dropped the bomb that we have until 1/1/2014 to quit smoking or our insurance rates will jump dramatically (we're talking ~$1000/mo increase). Well if that isn't the kick in my pants to quit then i don't know what is!

I have a Synergy ce4 right now, but haven't used it much due to trying to mix flavors and them not really working for me, and the fact I bought it as a "toy" and not really to quit smoking.

I will be getting an evic within the next few days or so and giving the synergy to my wife.

Just wanted to stop in and say hello!

Ride394 - best of luck, but I caution you -

Get started on regular vaping ASAP. Not sure about your work, but at my employer, you have to sumbit to a chemical test to prove your body is nicotine free (I'm not sure if it's blood, swab, what). So the sooner you're off the stinkies, the easier it will be for you come Jan to vape 0MG for a few days before you have to prove yourself worthy of affordable healthcare.

Good call! Not sure what they are doing yet? Nobody in my company (1500 people) has any idea what is going on or how they are going to accomplish this. The best part... neither does our HR dept.

wbart- Not sure yet. I'm still in the reseacrh phase. I was looking at the texas tough tanks. What would you receommend for a beginner? Looking to start on the lower end of the price spectrum, but not super cheap either.

Although I prefer IBTanked pyrex cartotanks as my primary juice delivery device, there can be a learning curve involved with cartotanks. For a beginning vapor, I recommend one of the clearomizer tanks. Easy to fill and go. Most have replaceable "heads" (heating coils) which prolong their use.

For an eGo threaded battery device I recommend the Kanger Evod or Innokin iClear 16. For a 510 threaded battery device I recommend the Kanger Protank or Innokin iClear 30.

That's a pretty misguided approach, not to mention draconian. There are almost zero credible studies of nicotine, by itself, being a particular health hazard. Most of the concerns about it are the addictive aspect.

I'm sorry you have to work in an environment like that. I'd imagine they also do drug testing?

If they're going to give you a 1K break on your health insurance, I'm relatively certain they're not going to "take your word for it" when you tell them you're off tobacco... and as far as I'm aware, the industry standard is a chemical test for presence of nicotine - which would mean all tobacco products would be a no-no, as well as vaping nicotine. Fortunately, as I understand it, nicotine is typically metabolized out of one's system within a couple of days. So, if you really want to, you could go back to vaping nic immediately following passing your test.

But if you can go 3 days on 0mg juice - why not just keep going nic free? :)

Fortunately for me, I'm a union employee at my work, and thusfar my union has fought to keep the nicotine testing out of our contract. So I am still safe from insane insurance premiums at least through Feb of 2015... not sure if we'll hold them off in the next negotiation or not. Personally, I think it's a bit intrusive, but I also think it's poor form to let a drug addiction prevent one from maintaining gainful employ... the crappy part is nicotine is more addictive than (insert most other ilicit substances) and you can buy it at the gas station.

LOL - you know what's funny, they don't. Not pre-employment anyway. They wait for you to be high at work and then corner you, test you and force you to go to rehab or lose your job. They will, however, not immediately terminate you if you agree to get help.

That's why they don't mention nicotine at all, just smoking. So I'm curious to see how they will test. They mentioned signing a non-smoker affadavit. Not sure how they plan to police it.

And surprisingly there are no drug tests.

the big increase is coming to every one either way.
if obama care fully kicks in 50% increase across the board for every one that smokes.(ecigs included as tobacco for obama care)
the insurence companies are going to love this.seeing how there current rates are based
on the expected cost of maintaining health care for there customers,
this includes smokers, obese people, diabetic, the whole cross section one would find
in any segment of the population.
thats right, they should be lowering the rates of non-smokers,and or drinkers.
not raising the rates of some , free money for them.

if obama care does'nt fully kick in they'll blame smoking, drinking, and obesetie and
jack up rates anyway.

they get to have it both ways.

Here' how I went from an analoger to a vaper.

Week 1 - Smoked in the mornings till 1p then vaped the rest of the day.
Week 2 - Smoked in the mornings till Noon then vaped the rest of the day
Week 3 - Smoked in the mornings till 10a - then vaped
Picked a date to become a 100% vaper
I selected a Saturday (non-work day for me) to start 100% vaping.

I was a 1.5 to 2 packs a day analoger - I've been analog free since 10:10a August 16th.

I consider my analog free date August 17th though. I know I am the only person who can change my analog free date!

During my 3 week weaning process I gained a lot of hope and became convinced that I COULD go analog FREE.

I threw away my ash trays - matches - lighters - thoroughly cleaned my car - and then and still continue to build a lost of motivations.

I do get that urge to have an analog - but know - truly know that urge will only last for a little while - and congratulate myself when I make it past an urge. I also read my list of motivators.

I use both positive AND negative motivators - and continue to add to my list.

Positive- I feel good in the morning, have better lung capacity - blood pressure has dropped - I don't stink like an analoger - save money - etc.
Negative - I'd feel bad in the morning - I would disappoint myself, I'd die earlier - I'd stink - I spend more money, etc.

If I slip - I don't plan on it - I'd use that experience to learn what triggered my lapse and then get back on the 100% vaping immediately.

It's not been that hard for me - and I appear to be adapting to my new vaping habit.

I know I can do this! The success stories here also help me too!

I just got the Vamo V3 with 2 Clearomizer tanks the Innokin IClear 16 Dual Coil Round mouth 2.4 Ohm on about 5-6 watts easy to get a lot of clouds and make the juice taste so good. And the Kanger Protank also, these both are very good for us beginners and they both give great flavors and large vapes. I actually cant stop vaping

If they really wanted to get smokers, they would just do what we had to do in cessation class....blow into a carbon-monoxide (CO) analyzer. It's cheap, quick, and efficient and can easily be used for surprise testing. Anything higher than a 1.0 and you probably had a cigarette that day, or you sat in a traffic jam with the windows down. My first session, I blew a 19. It took about a week after I quit completely for it to come down to 1. I wasn't vaping then, but I doubt vaping would affect a CO test. If they do a fluid-sample test, they're not really interested in smokers - they're going after nicotine. There is a test specifically for nic, but nic occurs naturally in a lot of different food products. Have a box of half-chewed Nicorette in your pocket when you test.
