Guess from past experience on this site I'm also a part of, I figured a minority idea would be good idea to post awareness of, those people always got beautiful feedback and a message was relayed.

Today that kind of failed..

Tried raising awareness of FDA regulations on e-cig vapers, and how it could stop a great thing available to smokers to quit or reduce the consumption, and a great way to stay quit to ex-smokers.

And it got ripped to shreds...

Really showed me how the general public views vapers..

Guess in a way we're still viewed as as bad as smokers with comments like "guess who else doesn't care" and "YOU COULD JUST QUIT SMOKING. STUPID ....." and even "vaping is ......ed" kinda hurt moral...

Came back here to get some love back into my life. Guess I should just stay and post where vaping is welcomed I guess..

Im grateful for vaping and being able to kick the cig habit after 25 years and all the fine folks at ECF that have helped me along the way, but I could care a flip less what the general public thinks of my habits. I try to educate smokers of the benefits of converting to vaping and have had great success in my meager 3 months of doing so. The way I see it is you lose some and you win some but at the end of the day what you think and feel is all that matters and any smoker that doesnt take a second to hear you out is simply losing out.

Opinions are like b-holes... everyone has one and they stink. You're going to get resistance from people who don't understand that we have an alternative that is less harmful and can help people to ultimately quit if they so desire. You can tell them every single fact that is a positive and they'll still give you gripe about it.

All that matters is that YOU are happy with your vaping. Haters gonna hate.

To me, it hurt more to realize we're not fighting just FDA the CDC etc. We're fighting to make the public realize it's safer as well. Because we're a minority, and if the general public gets outrageous and makes more claims like senator Boxer from cali did about vapers and the companies that sell to us, it definitely doesn't make it look to promising, when they're the ones who control who goes into office. We have a voice. It's just sadly smaller.

Guess I lived in a fantasy world where I thought people were a bit more accepting of something that helped kill off tobacco.. oh well.

ECF has a 60' X 60' X 30' deep pit out back. If you feel like shooting them and tossing the carcasses in it, there is a bit of room left. Just take a ticket and stand in line.

Any chance they were all smokers? They seem to be pretty anti vaping. Makes 'em feel better.

I know a few were ex smokers who are vapers and they raved about it. Everyone else pretty much made it clear that what I was trying to do was as they put it "......ed"

Most of it comes from ignorance. That and the media spewing bs science and employing scare tactics. I'm waiting for the day when they ("scientists") really do figure out vaping helps people quit smoking and is at worst is relatively harmless and they have to eat their words.

In a sense we are still fighting those three letter organizations. Where do you think the general public is getting their uninformed information? Yup, the three letter organizations.

I'm so sorry that you had to go through this torture of finding out what we are up against. :(
All you can do is keep doing what you are doing, for yourself, and educate when you have a mind in front of you that is open to hearing a different side.

    Yeah, it does hurt.

Most of what I've encountered from non-smokers or vapers is curiosity. They want to know exactly what I'm exhaling when I'm vaping so they know what they're inhaling, what the ingredients are, how it works, do I still crave cigarettes (no f'in way!) etc... mostly in the context of wanting to help a friend or relative quit smoking.
I think it's worth noting that most of this has been in-person and people tend to be more brazen with criticism when they're online and not within arm's reach of a 6', 245 lb Scandinavian.

Also, keep in mind, people who have never smoked, or had any other kind of addiction problem... their favorite thing to say is "well, why don't you just quit?" They simply have no frame of reference for actually *wanting* to do something that they consider stupid -- I'm that way about gambling, I just don't get the lure of it at all, so I can kinda understand where those never-addicted people are coming from. I don't think it's really possible for those people to ever truly understand what addiction means, or how difficult it can be to fight; the best they will ever be able to offer is toleration -- but we should continue trying to get thru to them, to at least get that much, and also to get the point across that vaping conveys no risk to non-users who happen to be in the vicinity, as well as no bad smell.

Yeah who cares what they think. I personally love vaping and I'm not going to give it up even when the FDA does whatever they're going to do. It's not like I'm going to get rid of all my mods and RDA's and go back to smoking. There's no way I'll go back to smoking. I'll just keep making my own juice and do my thing. I guess people fear the unknown and they don't want anything to do with it. So don't feel bad. We quit smoking and that's all that matters now.

I wouldn't take it to heart too much. I think you have to stop for a second and decide how much value you put into the opinion of an adult(s) who describes something they don't like or don't understand as being "......ed". Don't sweat it! :thumb:

don't let it bother you. Those kind if people don't get it.

Don't get what? Life? Makes sense.

Just a little image sharing site I found one day a few years back. They post all kinds of minority views and pictures with stories on it and ideas. Just thought vaping would have a place. Guess not.

Well, maybe we should all join. Persuasion or enlightenment is usually aided by numbers....

Those responses do seem mean and immature. Perhaps in their self-possessed, self-assuredness, and group think of of their youth (I mean we've all been there right out of high school or college when we just "know" everything and life hasn't had time to give us a few wallops), they are just spewing "canned" responses with NO interest to learn more.

There seems to be no logical, reasoned thinking going on; but, hey, that seems to be the results of our schools now-a-days. And, before jumping all over me regarding schools, I've raised two who were 15 yrs apart. There was a definitely difference in material and strenuousness of studies between what the older got and the younger. Not for the better. I still have a hard time following the "logic" of my youngest. She's 35 yrs. :(
