I ordered a couple of these: these from Amazon.com and just got them in. They have a nice, solid, aluminum top instead of the plastic one from RadioShack. Same size tube, even the ends are interchangable.

Thats the ones! There are several ways to build it using the parts from this desolder. I am going to have to get me a few more and play around some. I want to make one with a machanical switch using the parts from it!

built one of these last year when i was bored. It holds 4 AA batteris to make 6v in high or 4.5v in the low switch position. I took an old 510 battery connector and soldered it to the rca type plug that was the soldering tip after breaking off the heating elememt from the tip. I didn't want to mess up the soldering iron so i can still use it as one with just a new tip. I use rechargable 1.5v AA Ni-MH batteries and it works well. the only real drawbacks to it were the button was hard to push and would make your finger tips numb after a while and the light shines in your eyes if you try to press the button with your thumb but all in all it was a pretty neat mod.....

I like it! Interchangable vape / soldering unit. Great job.

Nice, I was surprised how well the mod felt in my hands after it was built. How is that battery working for you?

The 17670 works great. At 1600 mAh it doesn't last quit as long as my 18650 mod, but still really good battery life. It really does feel really good in the hand. For a total cost of less than $10, you can't beat it.

My thoughts exactly! I’m surprised that more people aren’t making this. It’s fairly easy to make, and feels and vapes as well as the more expensive PV's out there!

Yes. I bought enough parts to make another and plan on making it this weekend. I may have to buy some more 17670 batteries, though, I only have 3.

Looking at it now, it looks like a huge eGo battery :)
