Ok, I see how your circuit is working. I had to look it over again to figure it out. Grounding the control pin through the resistor keeps the circuit off and then applying a positive to the pin turns it on. I didn't read the specs on the control pin close enough. The E version would eliminate the need for the resistor and negative wire but nobody has them so guess there isn't much of an option.

This regulator is working awesome. Not a watt of heat wasted. two 14500 are lasting about a day and a half with heavy vapping.

[Standard version]
Positive Logic ON = +1.5 V. to +Vin max. or open pin
OFF = –0.3 to +0.4 V. max. or ground pin

[“E” version]
Positive Logic ON = +2 V. to +Vin max.,
49KΩ pulldown to ground
OFF = open pin or –0.3 to +0.4 V. max.

After reviewing the specs on the regulator again I had an epiphany...

As the wattage for these is fairly high I am going to have to un-mod a part of this thing and put the RCA jack back on and mod my connector. With the 14500 batteries and the regulator this will double as a very good variable temperature soldering iron. The stock 6W was almost useless other than for tiny tiny stuff. With the new batteries and regulator this may actually make a very decent all use iron.

My weller is dead!!!!

I'm not sure what happened. after several days of use it just quit. I noticed however that when I hit the switch I can hear a faint clicking noise coming from the regulator. I opened it up and checked for shorts and opens and didn't see anything so I popped a carto on it and tried it with everything open and it didn't work right away but then all of a sudden I heard a sizzle from the carto.

I am going to tear it down and use a heavier gauge wire and correctly sized heat shrink to see if that helps. I already miss this thing. Using my standard PV's just are not anywhere near as good.
