I live in Bend, Oregon. For you not familiar with it, Bend is a destination community of 80,000 and consistently listed as a top ten place to retire, golf, cycle, ski, enjoy nature, etc. The economy is driven by tourism and wealthy retirees. Smoking is banned in our extensive public parks system, all outdoor events, plus within ten feet of any public building or business by law. You rarely see smokers around here with the exception of folks in town from outlying areas. We are the Aspen of Oregon with a huge emphasis on health, fitness, and outdoor recreation.
My point... I have about five local close friends who vape and several from larger cities who visit and go out with us regularly. My wife vapes socially or if we are out for cocktails. We often join our other vaper friends at trendy bars, four and five star restaurants, and many downtown events. All of which are crowded and bustling with people.
Never ONCE, have we been asked not to vape at any event or establishment. Often times someone will say "Is that an electronic cigarette? It is? Oh, I've heard of those! Good for you for quitting smoking! That smells nice"..etc. I usually ask if they mind or ask the servers if there is a vaping policy and so far everyone is cool with it. That's about it. I think if we are cool with about how we go about it, others will typically be fine with it too.
