I feel that Ohm's law is a bit overrated in the vaping community. The vaping community also likes to confuse the Ohm's law with Joule's first law.

Ohm's law tells you about the relation between voltage, resistance and current. If you're using some regulated device with over-current protection, I don't think Ohm's law should matter to you much. If you're building your own coils or using an unregulated mech, you should probably take some care not to run too much current through it.

Joule's first law is a bit more interesting to vaping because it tells you the power your coil will have. But then, the exact numbers aren't really interesting much either – if you have a device that allows you to tune the voltage (“VV”) (or even power directly – “VW”), going higher will give you more power. If you don't have such a device, you can increase the power by getting a coil with lower resistance.

In the end, what matters is whether your e-cig hits the way you like – if it does, who cares about the numbers; if it doesn't, you can try increasing or decreasing the power and what matters is going up or down, not the exact numbers again.

And speaking about wizardry, I'm not a wizard. Some people have called me a witch, though.

Ask a question here or any other forum for that matter, get 10 different answers and 9 of them will be wrong. The really hard part is picking out the right one.

Being involved in air conditioning service, sales and such since I was in my early 20's involved a lot of trouble shooting, logic and ohm's law was just a small part of that.

BCC trouble shooting has so many variables that every time I think I've seen it all I run into something else.

I too am in the HVAC business....but just a service repair salesman....it helps to have some mechanical backround but after 2 months of EFC post reading (non stop) it will get you going in the right direction...

My Wizard master license is in the mail I heard :D

Looks at her avatar....nope I am a druid. ;)

ALthough the human behind the avatar has a very heavy education in mathematics and science.

WoW - such a fun game :D

On topic - I have always been very tech savy and good with minor engineering and physics. No educational background on either but I will say that vaping does open your eyes to a whole book of lingo and math related stuffs

Asbestos...remember the first rule of smart club, lol! I have to thank you guys for all the education, seriously. I'd been 510 dripping for so long, wanted a Mad Angry Pirate tank so bad, but was happy. Then I see a protank out and about and....so with all theses new fangled gadgetry y'all gots now...I'm a freaking kid in a candy store! So much of the complaints I hear are about fiddling with things, but comparatively, it's no hassle for me to pull a pin now then. Maybe patience is more of an issue then common sense??

Class discuss...

Sorry Guys. I started a thread, and then things happened, got hungry, got sleepy, you know how it goes. in bed by 10 on a Friday. I really got old over the last couple of years! lol

To those of you who responded with encouragement, I appreciate it, but I'm not feeling overwhelmed. I will NEVER need to know a lot of that information, and likely neither will anybody else with an e-cig. lol (I'm trying to dance around that it was the GN threads, but can't find a way to do that.) I'm the kind of guy that learns as much as I feel I need to know, and then when something comes up that I'm not happy with or doesn't work, I learn a little more. I'm definitely a "Jack of all trades, master of none."

The funny thing about that, is I would guess that the average forum user could out info the average B&M employee any day. Happens to me often. Usually about gear they got in, not so much the fluid dynamics. (Beautiful post though Francdracula!) My non vaping friends think I'm an absolute genius! lol I put my first coil pic on facebook, and my coworkers think it really IS rocket science! (or Wizardry)

Just a lighthearted thread to cleanse the palette, palate, pallet, for the weekend. (OJ doesn't work, I tried it.) I think you guys are great, and I've learned a ton over the last few months, and am sure I will continue to do so over the next few. Gonna tackle that dual coil RDA build today.

That is the Forum Incompetency Theorem: Murphy's Law - Soronlin

I'm a software engineer by trade, but always at the hardware end of the scale. I've dabbled in Amateur Radio too. Ohms law is ingrained, but batteries are a dark art.

My current pie-in-the-sky idea is for a mod that runs Linux, can adjust the voltage during the hit to maintain a constant coil temperature and display nice graphs to prove it. But I'll probably never get around to doing anything about it.

Tbh im a total ........ When i started this pv stuff i had no idea what i was doing when it came to ohms law and such...
I had totally forgotten that part of my education is the understanding of electrical connections and an in depth understanding of ohms law...

Im gonna ace this education i can feel it! :S

Ah, a fellow Ham! Now, how that stuff works, it's a mystery. I learned what I needed to get my license, and then forgot everything except "push button to talk."

The closest mod to your idea is an eVic. You can hook it up to the computer and it gives you some nice graphs on power usage, puff count, volts, etc. Also, you can set the power or volts to a custom run. I toyed around with it for a little while, having it start off at about 6.5 watts to start, and then get up to about 8.5 watts after maybe a second and a half.

I must second the notion that I don't bother learning unless I need the information. OK, sometimes just want. But without a doubt this forum has helped me immensely. There really is a bunch of knowledge here. Sometimes too much because it can be difficult to find when I have something very specific I am looking for.

I have been involved with computers since 1990 or so, pretty much every MS operating system, which is weird because I have come to dislike them greatly. I keep trying to spend quality time with Linux but life gets in the way.

I also am the sort to DIY anything mechanical, and very comfortable with electricity as used in the common house wiring. Which really is simple to those who do electricity.

I built this 660nm regulated 250mW laser for 2x14500. Funny though, I never had any desire to wind coils.

That is cool!! A while back I bought one off of Wicked Lasers, a red one, and it rocked. I loved inflating black balloons, throwing them around the house, and pretending I had a futuristic laser gun and would shoot the balloons. It took a second or two, but *POP*! I think I scared my daughter more times than not, she couldn't figure out why each balloon she picked up popped.....

This one is a one-off home brew. The lenses optimize this one for maximum throw, not burning power. It's a kick outdoors during a rain storm or fog. Unfortunately, CA is having one of it's drought years. :(
