I am kind of new to vaping with mech mods and am wondering if a battery is still safe after it has had juice spilt on it?

I my vapebox got pretty warm when I left it in my car and it caused a couple of my 8ml cartos to start spewing juice. Never thought about it, but just like leaving a pop in the car my carto tanks built pressure and got juice on one of my new 30a sonys. The battery still has a decent charge but I have not put it in a mod or charger yet out of fear of battery failure.

Anyone got any advice?

Yea Patro is right. Don't leave mods in the car. Juice will not hurt the battery except to maybe cause a film on the contacts. I would not use a bettery that got hot say if you put it in your pocket and did not lock the button or if it leaked or shows signs of bulging. Eliquid is not a good conductor so it's not likely to short anything.

But seriously, folks. Do not leave your gear in a hot car. This includes all sizes, including cig-alikes and eGo-style.

Not exactly a battery engineering term is it, LOL.

It's what came to mind for me when I thought of all the things that could possibly go wrong when they get too hot. People have had eGo batteries explode while on charge in hot cars. An old battery being run at high amp draw cold be pushed over the edge if it's run hot. Short a cool battery and it's less likely to vent than a hot one.

OK, OK, so snarly might not have been the best description. How about ornery? Actually, I like ornery better. It's also a word I hardly ever use, at least not as often as I use snarly.

Thanks FlamingoTutu, I feel better now :)

my gear didn't get hot just warm enough to make the juice leak everywhere. I am going to have to be more careful it sounds like. Since I started vaping the heat hasn't been an issue, last week is the first week we have had weather in the 60s this year in MI. snowing 9 days ago and today its 80, gotta love michigan weather:laugh:

Thanks everyone!

Hello, on the topic of mods left in the car...

It's about 35C right now and I accidentally forgot my mod inside the car. Stayed there for about an hour. Ran back to get the mod when I remembered it. The mod (a Reo) was hot, but the battery itself was just warm. No visible sign of damage to the battery. Is this safe?

It's an AW18650.

Thanks!

on the topic of wet batteries. how about vaping in the rain with a mech mod ? I work outside and it's always raining or snowing half the year. I always have but have always wondered if I should be lol.

i would worry less about that than i would about 95°F (35°C) outside temp and left in a car for an hour. as long as there's no rust or signs of visible degradation, just keep it dried off whenever possible, don't put it on the charger wet and vape on.

speaking of rust, my brand new (when it was brand new) VTC3 arrived with an ever so slight amount of what appears to be rust on the edge of the flat top, near the vent. i scraped it with my fingernail and it had texture to it, like rust would. its so small its hard to tell if its rust or if its something else. ive been using it for months, giving it the same workout i give to all my cells (0.5-0.8Ω loads) with no visible or physical signs of stress. i wonder if the small patch of "rust" or whatever it is is indicative of damage to the cell. seems like it would be, but it lasts just as long as my other cells of the same mAh. heck, i even deeply discharged this batt accidentally (faulty locking ring) down to 1.58v a few months ago, safely recovered it with my VP1, and it still performs as well as my other batts (which are just about any high amp, high drain IMR/hybrid 18650 on the market [i like variety :D ])

if it's in a relatively safe place, not progressing and the cell is performing well, i wouldn't worry too much about it. maybe outline the mark with a felt tip pen to make sure it's not progressing and make sure it doesn't progress towards a seem that would give it access inside the cell just to be careful and aware.

if it were new and not abused, i'd say return it for replacement.
