First off, what a Awesome forum. You guys are the best. I've been reading for the past 4 hrs straight and just had to write in my experience.
I had never heard of e-cigs. I remember, vaguely, a recent story about them, but I never paid attention. So today I am walking in a mall and this kid must have pegged me for a smoker because he walks up to me and starts pitching an e-cig (Smoke Everywhere).
Well, I tried it and was impressed. I've wanted to quit smoking for ages now and its juts never happened, but this felt different somehow. So I went ahead and bought a starter kit with mild nic.
Just some observations that I noticed- first off he was demoing full strength, and it caused too much of a kick for me. but I think thats what convinced me to go for it I think.
Another I noticed right away, I immediately wanted to vap rather than light a cig. On my way home, and as I sit here waiting for the battery to charge I am finding the analogs to seem "dirty" now. Is that odd so quick?
Anyway, I went ahead and decided to go for it and found this site. Who knew? And even thought the thread on "symptoms" has me a bit nervous, its nice to know what I can expect and how to deal with it or avoid it entirely.
Thanks to all of you very much. For all the info and interesting stuff.

Let me say this: I smoked for 40 years (I am 54). I tried to quit frequently. Gum, patch, and medication, all failed.

Using E-cigarettes? 100 percent positive results. I am off those things for three months now, and NO desire to go back, no matter how much booze you give me .

Congrats! I know the feeling. Since going e-cig couple weeks ago I ..... well...I've done...questionable things with my last pack of ciggies. Things I'm now not proud of. I put them...in my mouth and lit them. 8-o It felt dirty ... and not the good kind, :D just weird and smelly. :nah:

They're gone, e-cig's are in. Best wishes!

Ehvam, Welcome! My experience was the same, right away was finished with 44 years of smoking. The first sensation was "clean". Three hours after I got this awful tasting stuff to vaporize, I lit up one of my Rolys, and that tasted worse! And the smell was awful. I stumped it out, and should have saved it and framed it, because that was my last cigarette. By the next day I knew I couldn't tolerate a cigarette smell anymore, and of course the e-cig was all primed up (I didn't know there was a break-in time) so the taste just got better and better, now using Johnson Creek juice, the "original" tobacco flavor, and have stuck to that ever since. Hope you enjoy success.

Evham -- you're sure right about the people in this forum being the best.

I haven't yet had the dramatic results some people here report. But I sure notice a difference. I've had the e-cig only a few days. Its batteries are small and they don't hold a charge for a long time, and I didn't get a ton of cartridges (they're the pre-filled, atomizer-included type). So I'm not making super-heavy use of this thing yet -- I don't have a local supply of the cartridges that I know of. ("E8" a.k.a. Perfection Micro cartridges -- hey, anyone in the Seattle area know if we do have some retailer for them in the Seattle/Everett/Bellevue area?)

I've been a pack-plus-per-day smoker for a long time. Today I think I've had only about 10 cigarettes. Partly sheer self-indulgence. I'd get to a point where I'd think: "Tired of this chocolate taste. I want something that tastes like tobacco now."

But the tobacco isn't tasting as good as it did a few days ago and I'm noticing in a way I didn't notice before, how obnoxious the smell of it is.

Dramatic reduction or no, the fact that someone as heavily addicted as I am could cut down by about half without any serious anxiety about it -- that was just plain unthinkable before. I thought about even minor cutbacks a million times before. "Today, I'll only have ten." Never pulled it off. "Ok, then tomorrow." Yeah, sure. As the shark chorus said in Finding Nemo: "Denial." :)

I half-expected this whole business would be a bust and I'd be back to regular cigarettes fairly soon...but now it strikes me: that might not happen at all. It's been a real eye-opener...

Welcome to the Forum Ehvam.

First - If you could edit your profile to include your location? You'll find that you may have close neighbors with e-cig's.

I'm glad to see your happy with your first purchase. As you read the Forums, you'll find that you paid a bit more for your first. Don't let it bother you. Most of us paid more for our first. Consider it a "starters fee". Now you can research parts, supplies, and prices at your leisure.

Spare atomizers are a must. They're unpredictable, and can fail at any time. Best to have spares, so you don't get desperate.

Look into liquid, so you can refill your cartridges. It's much cheaper, and you can experiment with flavors and strengths.

You're going to find that regular cigarettes are nasty tasting after a while, so stock up. It a whole new ball game.

Cheers;
jd

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I'm sure I'm going to love this.
To answer a few questions posed.
No, no real buyers remorse. After all, I would never have learned about these things if not for the convenience of the mall outlet. So I'm grateful to just be turned on to the e-cig, and just thinking about that makes the extra charge, etc more than worth it.
Yeah, I do need to stock up on atomizers, etc. The guy gave me five free packs of refills, but I need atomizers. We'll see, I'm broke! lol
So its taking a bit of time to learn how to inhale these things properly! But I'm getting it. Thing is I got dizzy at the mall on the high nic cartridge, so I went with the medium nic 11mg one. Not sure if thats enough, as I crave the analog a bit, unless I take an extreme amount of hits off the e-cig.
I'll experiement and see what works. I'm going to go gradual and careful with the switch, the "what to expect-sympoms" thread made me paranoid. lol!
I will also update my profile now....
Again, thanks to everyone.. so much information is a wonderful thing.

Ehvam -a good way to combat them sudden, irresistable urgres for a regular analog is to take a couple of hits off a high-strength cart....just a few will get you over the worst of the hump.
Your habits will change, and you will find the craving diminish over time - where you WANT the PV, and not the analogs.

Don't let the possible side effects freak you out...they can't be worse than continuing to inhale 4000+ chemicals and 40+ known carcinogens on a regular basis, right?

Come here for support as often as you need it...we're a great bunch (a little excitible at times) and are always around with a shoulder to lean on when needed.

Keep absorbing the information....being well-informed of what you're going through with similar user's experiences is a good thing, and will help you get through the worst of your transition from smoker to vaper.

Now, that said - enjoy your journey!

This is heart-warming. I'm a guy, and I'm not overly sentimental, but when I think of the times I tried to stop smoking and failed, again and again, I can't help but be thankful for these cranky little toy cigarettes that show us at once how nasty our cigarettes are. I love reading folks first reactions to vaping.
