It is my first week vaping on an EGO and I've already gone through three attys. They each seem to last a little over 2 days before becoming useless. This si really pissing me off as I thought from the forum that I'd get at least a couple weeks from each atty. Im dripping on regular 510 attys, using the same atty without changing, blowing it out occasionally if I think I flooded it. I put two drops on the atty and take 5 second draws. I let the atty rest for at least a min between draws. I have tried doing dry burns, soaking them in vinegar and water, and they are now soaking in rubbing alcohol. The attys take longer to heat up and don't glow as hot as they used to. They produce a fraction of the vaper they used to. I vape constantly, but have been giving a little break in between each draw, but it hasn't helped. All three of my attys died in similar time frames. Is all this talk of attys lasting weeks from occasional vapers? Should I be rotating between attys? I got my gear from HappyVaper. I am worried that this could not be that cost effective if an atty will only last me 48hrs.

I have been answering fair number of similar questions already and I will now copy and paste.

You have to understand what atomizers are. There is a heater inside and due to wear and tear, attys do not last long. However, there are ways to prolong their limits. Use 2 or 3 atty and vape them altenatively. Use high nicotine juice and control your vaping style. Take care of your atty by cleaning them always using water and blowing them. Do not overheat them. Do not drop them. Try different supplier and different model until you discover which actually suits you.

Good luck and happy vaping.

Addition: Do not use vinegar as it corrodes the coil inside. I am against dripping. Do not dry burn. Its for experience user only. Blowing is sufficient. At night, dismantle your set and let all you atty stand vertically with the big hole (where the cartridge fits in) at the bottom. Before using it the next day, clean the big opening with tissue paper. I think thats about it.

I've been using the same two 510 attys that came with my starter kit (Joye 510 from strictlyejuice, though I'm not sure they're actually JoyeTech) every day for 6 weeks. I vape about 2ml a day, and clean them every day or two with isopropyl alcohol. I don't often drip. I tend to avoid over-colored juices, though I don't know if that means anything.

Anyway, 48 hours seems weak no matter how you're abusing them. I mean, unless you're using them as cat toys or something.

Of the 5 attys I've owned, I've only ever had one go bad. My oldest is 13 months, and while it got intermittent use for a lot of that time, it was dripped heavily for 6 weeks, and is still going strong.

Unless I'm missing something, there's something amiss with your attys.

I got mine from LF over a month ago and it was my first atty that came with my Riva, before this I used cartos on a KR808-D1. I have soaked it in alcohol to get a flavor out of it, but other than that, I've never even blown mine out, I don't take it out of the Riva at night, I don't do anything that a lot of people suggest doing and I'm still on my first atty ever, which is over a month old. I'm not sure how its still working and I fully expect it to quit on me soon, and when it does quit I'll feel guilty for being an atty killer when there is so much good information about how to keep them alive here on the forum, but it seems to be working just fine. Maybe its the type of atty you have. I'd probably ask around and get the atty that people have had the most luck with. I can't help you there because this is my first atty ever, but it does seem to be a good one! BTW, I wouldn't treat your atty like I treat mine, my way is not right, I'm just lazy! LOL

Edit: I drip exclusively, and I drip any ol' juice I've got, dark, light, whatever. Most of my juice is heavy PG, though, if that changes anything.

This is definitely one of those YMMV things. I still have 5 of the 6 attys that I originally purchased with my Riva kits over two months ago. I have used them with dark and light colored juices, mostly 50/50 mixes, dripped and vaped with carts. I was responsible for killing the one I lost. The performance started to go downhill, so it was my first attempt at de-bridging. Needless to say, I botched the job and the atty got a proper trash-can funeral. I rotate the attys and give them a soak in 91% Iso Alc every few days and sometimes I'll just rinse them in hot water and do a dry burn. I just blow them out when I accidentally flood them or change out flavors in between soaks. These are all regular attys and TBQH, I'm not sure if they're Genuine Joye or not.

I know this is of absolutely no help to you whatsoever and you have my apologies for that. I don't see where you're doing anything wrong, even with using the same atty for a couple of days. I do that, too.

You said you were only dripping in 2 drops. I don't think that's enough liquid. Sounds like you're not keeping the atty wet enough.

Try dripping 3 drops into the atomizer when it needs more liquid. Also, after you blow it out completely and also after you soak it in isopropyl alcohol, drip in 6 drops, and blow lightly once to push the juice down all the way down into the bottom of the atomizer. Then drip 3 drops into the atty and vape. You'll have to drip in 3 more drops for about every 9 drags.

And, yes, alternating a couple of atomizers when you vape constantly is a good idea, but it sounds like the main problem is the atty is not wet enough.

In 7 months the only atty I've ever lost was the one I tried to do a dry burn on (like the cool kids on youtube). When the performance drops I soak them in isopropyl for 5 - 10 minutes, blow them out and let them dry overnight. This may be after a few days or more than a week. I use 3 attys in rotation, so they get a rest every so often. About 3 months ago I switched to LR attys so I haven't used my originals recently. Perhaps they will not work if I ever try them again. The main thing is to keep your atty wet.

I have been vaping for going on 8 months and still have 3 of my original 4 Joye attys. I marked one and used it as a 'dry burn' test atty, meaning I blew it out, rinsed it out with water, let it rest overnight, dry burned it the next morning, and put in some PG as my final step. That is the atty that died the fastest. I am NOT saying dry burn sent it to the trash. I am simply telling you what I did and the results.

I intend to repeat this test in the near future. The 3 originals are still in use and functioning just fine.

There is a difference in atty's. Some manufacturers put out a cheaper atty. Some people swear they are just as good and last just as long. I come from the , "you get what you pay for school". That said, I just ordered & received a batch of 510 regular attys from Greenhouse One. They have a 6 month warranty on their atty's and they are some of the lowest prices I have found. They are located in China. My package arrived in 7 days. You might want to check them out. I intend to start using them next week. Wish me luck!

I clean my atty's every other night with alcohol. Let them dry overnight. Blow them out. Drop in some PG and I'm good to go. I started doing this from day one because I am a clean freak. That was before I ever read a word about cleaning atty's or was even a member of this forum. I'm going to continue doing this because it has worked well for me.

You've already received some good advice about using corrosive liquids to clean your attys. I don't think boiling them it all that great of an idea either.

I can't help but wonder if you didn't get a bad batch of atty's. Have you talked with your supplier about this? Maybe they've had numerous complaints and can help you.

Happy Vaping,
Paula

I am an atty killer also - I do not know why . I keep them wet - I blow them out when I flood them (which I do, because I am very careful to keep them wet), nevertheless I have never had an atty that I used for dipping and/or with carts last me more then 2 days. I have tried all sorts of attys: mega egos, regular joye, ones that came with my Riva kits, cheapo ones, LRs. I kill them all. 8-o I have fairly good luck with cartomizers and thus they are what I use them most of the time. I love dripping and I loved the mega ego ones with their mega carts, but they all die on me very quickly and thus ever couple of weeks I will try again with a new atty - only to have it die very quickly from no know cause.

Well my brothers 510 came from happy vaper and they have lasted a long time. I tend to only use two drops on my 510 atty when in use on my ego, and about three or four when i first use it and puff the hell out of it for about 30s untill i get the nice vapor i wouldnt dry burn you get that nasty atty taste. also when its producing good flavour and vapor i would redrop about every ten min or when it starts tasting burnt/gross

Sean,

Sorry you are having problems:( Dryness is the number one killer of attys, so keep that in mind.

I'm using my original 2 attys from September and I vape heavily all day long and I drip too. I use 100% VG juices too and VG is harder on attys because it's thicker/sweeter. I use a pipette and squirt a solution of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 distilled water through the atty. I let it dry overnight and rotate the 2 I got. Both of my attys are performing as good as day 1 and I don't know if I'm just lucky or it's my cleaning method. I don't soak them- just squirt the solution through them a few times. It takes 5 seconds.

Have you ever tasted dry burned vapor during your first week? Could the button be being depressed while you are carrying it in your pocket and it's frying your attys? Or are you using the a manual battery at all? The auto ones are bad for frying attys because they can go off if the wind blows on them even!

Im using manual ego batteries. It may be that Im letting it dry out too much. I usaually only put 2, max 3 drips in it. Its not firing by accident in my pocket. As I said previously Ive gotten one that wasn't working well to vape sufficiently by removing the bridge. Its still not heating up quite like it did 2 days ago, but I think exposing the element makes up for this. Ill try as some have suggested to add a few more drops to keep the atty moist. Also once this current debridged atty dies Im going to start rotating them. I'll be satisfied if I can get a week of good vaping out of an atty.

Thanks to all for the help.
