What am I doing wrong?

Morning Vapers!

I've been playing with my rebuildables the last few weeks and I'm a little disappointed in my Igo's. Let me rephrase, the Igo's rock, apparently it's user error! :p Hopefully i can describe my set up well enough for someone to set me straight.

Here goes: 28g, 4/5 wrap, 3mm ekowool folded over itself once, reading approx. 1.5ohms.

Issues: On my mech and my VV/VW I put it on, press the button and.......waiting, waiting, waiting..........it takes anywhere from 4-8 seconds for me to hear the tell tale hiss that its actually making vapor. I get good, flavorful hits, but having to hold the button down that long KILLS my batteries quick. On my Vamo I have to hold down until I hear it hiss, stop, then hit the button again so I don't trip the 10 second shut off. Like I said, I get good flavor and hits, but I get good flavor and hits from carto tanks as well and from what I've seen/heard/read, rba's should be a whole new level. Just don't know, hopefully you guys do!! Here's some pics, thanks in advance for any tips.

Two things.
First, on your mechanical, 1.5 ohms is a little high. I think you'd get better results if you dropped a wrap off, and tried to get your resistance down closer to 1.0 ohm, if you want to use 28ga. Right now, with a 1.5 ohm coil, and a battery at 3.7 volts, you're only vaping at about 9.1 watts. At that wattage, 28ga wire will take a while to heat up. If you want to keep your coil resistance at 1.5, so that you can also use your Vamo, you'd get better results if you made a 1.5 ohm coil with 30ga.
I've found that 28ga isn't ideal on vv or vw mods. 30ga responds better.

Thanks for the reply. I have a small amount of 30ga to play with, thanks for the tip. What resistance should I be going for on my mechs?

I agree... drop a coil off and you might still be in the resistance range for your vamo.

I did a similar setup with 31 ga, but I didn't double over the 3mm Ekwool for my wife's Zmax mini. It is working great. Maybe try a 4/5 wrap around a single piece of Ekowool and see how you like that.

Also - you may want to give a micro coil a try with the 28ga wire.
Here is a link to a huge thread that has tons of good info on it:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...271-micro-coils-increase-vapor-flavor-th.html

Here are the down and dirty basics though.

Anneal a piece of wire (heat it up with a lighter till it glows red and slowly move the flame along the length of the straight wire getting the red spot to follow you.)

using a 1/16" mandrel (drill bit, large sewing needle, 16ga blunt tip needle, piece of music wire, toothpick) wrap 7-10 wraps with the coils touching each other with no spaces between them and no overlapping. Spend some time teasing the coil and squishing it together before you mount it.

Leave the mandrel in your micro coil when you mount it to the RDA. Long legs are ok here (even preferred) so mount the coil on your atomizer so the coil rests near the outer edge of the base right next to your air hole. You want the incoming air from the air hole to hit the coil dead center.

after the coil is mounted and positioned, remove the mandrel and check resistance. snip off balance of wire.

fire the coil with no wick in it till it glows bright. It will glow from the center out to the ends. as soon as you release the firing button, gently squeeze the coil with a tweezers, forceps, or pliers until it cools. Repeat 3 times.

finally, roll up a cotton wick from a cotton ball or the end of a q-tip. The wick should be small enough to slide through the coil with almost no resistance. Snip the ends of the wick at a length where each end of the wick rests in the juice well. Add a few drop of juice to saturate the wick and wait a few moments (I usually cant wait more than a minute, lol)

Then take a test vape. Drip your normal amount of juice and ENJOY!

Sorry this got so long!!

Thanks
Geo
