What am I missing ...?

Hi everyone,

After reading on here yesterday about the possible delay in getting the EVO I ordered last week, I decided I could wait no more - and ordered a Pilot from e-cigs.co.uk - which came this morning :D

One of the batteries is on charge for 8 hours as instructed, but the other has been pressed into immediate service and seems to be working fine ...So I've been giving it a good go.

Anyway, as a smoker for 35years+ (not heavy, about 15 roll-ups per day) - I went for "High" Tobacco flavour carts and a bottle of High 18mg Riskee juice.

I have been vaping one of the carts for a while now and I can feel the nicotine doing its stuff, so why do I still feel the urge for an analogue? What am I missing from the e-cig? Is it just familiarity? So far, I haven't given in to the urge for an analogue though so it's looking good:)

I have to say I'm not getting the throat hit I feel I want at the moment, and neither am I much enjoying the slightly sweet taste of the liquid in the carts, but I'm going to live with this for now to see if it's just the atomizer breaking itself in... is this likely? Or is the slightly sweet taste something I'm going to have to learn to live with - from the PG perhaps?

Also, any advice on the throat-hit part would be good please. Is this just down to the juice make and flavour, or is it also affected by the strength of the nicotine? Can you recommend a juice for good throat hit?

Sorry for all the questions  but I'd really like to get this up and running with a good satisfying vape, so that I can wave goodbye to the analogues with a light heart and a happy outlook... I'm chuffed with the hardware, it's just getting the right "smoke" that I need to work on.

(BTW, my EVO is this morning showing on Intellicig website as "Despatched" , so maybe I should have been more patient ... but I just couldn't:D so now I will have 2 models to compare )

Thanks for reading.

Have you opened your bottle of Riskee yet, or are you currently just smoking the carts the way they came?

I could _not_ survive on those carts, they just aren't soaked enough for me to get a good hit after sitting in the package for God knows how long.

I put several drops on my cart before I start puffing. I get decent throat hit (with my 901) for several puffs, but it certainly doesn't last long. I have to top off _constantly_.

Like Programmer said, the carts just are not enough, at least for me. If you are using the Riskee Juice, it is somewhat sweet by itself.

Sometimes the atomizer does need a break-in period. Using the battery without a full charge can affect performance. When you switch to the fully charged battery you may notice a difference.

You most likely are correct that you are missing the familiarity of the analogues. There are a lot more chemicals in them besides nicotine and I'm sure the body craves some of those also.

Throat hit is a much discussed topic here. Reasons vary from person to person. Nicotine strength, proper functioning of battery and atomizer and inhale style can make a difference. These are quite different from analogues and none will feel the same way for you. It takes time to get used to but you are doing it the right way. Good on you!

Recommended Juice: Janty RY3, and Coffee...and anything from PureSmoker. Taste is a matter of opinion and purely up to you.

Thanks for the comments... I'm hanging in there and I think I'm getting the hang of it. :) Got to say I'm impressed with how the uncharged battery is holding up so far.

I have opened the bottle of riskee juice and dripped directly on the atomiser - just one small drop - and tried that ok. However, I really bought the juice to refill carts with and don't want to have to be dripping if I can manage without. We'll have to see how that goes...

Thanks for the juice recommendations, but anything that tastes like coffee, I just know I won't like - as you say, taste is up to each person ;) I'm thinking about cherry -as then the sweetness might seem to "fit" better.

Anyone have an opinion on cherry? Is there any kick or throat hit to it? And is ther any particular make of cherry you'd recommend?

Some of the standard kit-supplied carts do have a sweetness that is a bit too much, and the fruit ones may in fact be less sweet, if at all (thankfully).

As you smoke less and less analogues you will realise that part of what you are missing is the tar and acrid smoke. Even as one comes to realise how digusting that taste is, it still has a lingering attraction. I guess the nastiness of it gives it a full-on effect, stinging the eyes and nose, clawing at your skin etc. I still have the odd analogue, but getting less and less and feeling better for it becomes an additional motivator to eventually ditch them altogether. Like so many have said before me, i no longer seek a tobacco/smoke taste - I actually prefer strawberry now, who'd have thought it ;)

V-Power, key is to also give it time. The hardware will start working better. You will gain understand of the fiddy nature of these things and get comfortable with topping off your carts. As it's been mentioned, I find myself vaping things like Peach cobbler with great joy and I smoked non menthol analogs for years and years. Time will hopefully fix it all for you. You have good hardware with the 401's so you should be good to go.

I was glad to see I was not alone in still craving the analogs when I first started using ecigs. I thought it was just me. But I've been doing it for a little over a week now and it's true the cravings decrease more every day. I'm now down to just a few analogs a day. I absolutely love the menthol from Puresmoker, you'll have to wait to get it, so you might try that. It's more minty than menthol so give it a try. Has a nice aftertaste and the vapor smells nice too. You might be happier with a stronger nicotine liquid also. I was using the 24ml True Menthol. I just got the 36ml from Totally Wicked yesterday. It has a fierce kick so I'm cutting it with glycerine. Don't give up. This is far better for you than analogs. Stay with this forum. These are great people who seem to never tire of helping us newbies.

His experience is similar to mine. In fact, very similar. I'm at this about a week now.

Here's the deal -- it's a pain in the ..., okay? Let's be real. At least, in it's current state. I'm dragging around as much stuff as a ...... addict, minus the spoon. The case, the batteries, the carts, the travel squeeze bottle of juice. Stuffing it all into my pocket and again laying out all this stuff on the table. Pulling it all apart. Dripping it and dabbing it. Putting it all back together again -- you get your three hits and rinse and repeat. Contrast that with reaching in your pocket, pulling out your lighter and you're done.

Then there's the juice. What IS this stuff..? It's either a carefully crafted blend of niccotines and flavor, or spicy brake fluid. Who knows..? Do you..? Nope. Is it the same stuff that train buffs drop into their trains to get them to smoke..?

I went looking up the MSDS for propylene glycol and it's not entirely putting my mind at ease. It can cause liver failure and builds up in the kidney's. I don't want to spread false information or over-emphasize the risks, but those are the risks as laid out in the MSDS. It's used in brake fluid, air conditioners and some food-grade products. Rats fed a concentration of 5% had no ill-effects. Great(?)

Okay, fine, I went back for an analog. I went light headed, almost nauseus after my first analog in 3-4 days. Jesus, it was good. Too good. Don't do it. I regret it. I'm going to stick with the oil in my mouth and dragging around more crap around than Vincent Vega, but these have been my realities during this experiment thus far.

I still have saved ~$18.00 to date, which is good. eCigs? Most effective, for me, way to quit the habit without quitting the habit. It just needs refinement. Serious refinement.

I've been thinking of some sort of "bellows" design where you can fill up this "bellows" in the eCig with the liquid and it squirts a preportioned amount onto the atomizer. Not too much, not too little; just enough to get that good hit and just squeeze this bladder instead of dragging out the droppers and syringes. That would be a design improvement.

Oh my, still chuckling Smokin. You must be a mind reader. I've been thinking the same thing. I went & bought a second ecig that is not compatible with the first one so now I have twice as much stuff to keep track of. I did get the USB passthrough that I'm loving cause I don't have to keep worrying if the stupid batt is charged or which one is charging, etc. It holds much more juice so you're not constantly refilling as with my Pilot. Some things last longer than others so do more reading and find out what works for you.

Thanks for the support everyone. It's really good to feel others understand you and what you're going through.

Smokin - you made me laugh.:D With all the bits and pieces of paraphenalia, I have to admit to feeling more like a drug addict than I ever did with the rollups... but at the same time, I like the techy bits and the hardware is cool enough not to mind being seen with it. Black is definitely the way to go for me. As a rolly smoker, I never had those flesh-coloured filter ends on my ciggies, and they still don't look right to me now! I think the black is WAY more cool  ;)

Anyways, I've been vaping for over 12 hours now since my Pilot came, and now I'm really happy with it. I'm getting used to the taste and I'm even finding it hard to put down. I've only had 3 analogues in all that time (as compared to the usual 12 or so), and one of those was just to be sociable with a friend - I didn't really want it!!! I gave her a go of my ecig though and I think she'll be joining us quite soon :D

For me, this "conversion" is nothing short of spectacular! I've been a dedicated smoker for a long time and have always run very scared at even the thought of having to stop, or be without my cigs, even for a short time.
So far, I only have one complaint :( - and that's that I didn't have these ecigs brought to my attention sooner - like 20 years sooner!! ;) :D

Thanks also for the juice referrals - several of you are recommending Puresmoker - but I'm in UK, so would rather buy within country. I'm thinking about splashing out on some TW Cherry - anyone tried it?
