With doing research, I'll actually probably try the Aurora Bottom-Feeder next - it's a device that's about the same size as a Protank II, yet allows you to squeeze juice up into a head or cartomizer until your heart is content. I'd have to see the mechanics of just how that juice then penetrates into the head or atomizer to get to the wick, but if the juice more or less is just squirted directly onto the coil and wick (no holes, polyfill, or mess to worry about) then this would seem like the best device for most juices.
The problem with wicking is that juice has to absorb to the center of the wick to get a good vape - the two ends of a wick can be soaked but that doesn't mean the juice has enough gravitational pull, suction, or viscosity to actually cause movement onto the center portion of the wick. If you've ever dripped juice on to a Protank head, and experimented by dripping it on the wick ends to see how long it takes to absorb into the center, you'll know that most juice is perfectly content not traveling through the wick and usually will not have any of its own incentive to do so. At the very least, most tank models require tight air control and primer puffs to truly work the best they can (and prevent instant burning for many folks) and most folks just don't have time for that, nor are most of these models already built to incorporate that type of user input (requiring adaptors, low puff count, time, and a lot of sucking.)
Also, if you get a new batch of coils, it's probably best to use alcohol or something and take two one them, rinse one, don't rinse one. If one gives you a funky taste and one doesn't, go which whatever cleaning method worked for you.
