What Did You Do Today?

Went throught the SHTF bag today. Hunting season is near and have to remove a lot of the unneeded Zombie gear and replace it with hunting gear.

Was thinking we needed a "Zombie Classified" section for members to sell any extra gear to other Zombie survivalists. Against the forum rules I believe, but we still need one...

Most other forums on the internet have a "not related" classified section, and I think that would be a good idea here.

As soon as I get my apartment in order, I will be going through to thin out my bags and might have some extras, and it would be nice to pass them along here.

Took the new bow to the range today to sight in the pins. I almost traded it for the Carnage before I even shot mine, but after shooting both of them, side by side, I prefer the Attack. Hate the new sight. Its a vertical sight and I am used to horizontal sights, so I ordered a new set. Should be in next week. shop gave me full credit on the sights I bought and told me to use them until the others came in, so that was cool. The sight I ordered was the new Trophy Ridge Judge sights. Judge | Hunting Sights | Trophy Ridge Supposedly, you set the 20yd pin, then dial in the 30yd pin. When you dial in the 30 yd pin, the 40, 50 and 60 yd pins automatically adjust. 10 minute set up.

Other than the sights, the bow itself is awesome. Its a speed demon and whisper quiet. I definately recommend it if you're looking for a new bow.

Well, I participated in a Safety Meeting today where the topic of discussion was: Emergency Preparedness. :D I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing yet but, I picked apart their plans and what they thought were overkill emergency kits and told them what they really needed to survive a 3-10 day emergency that was missing from their 'kits'. For starters, they thought a dozen wet naps would suffice for the hygiene portion... I asked them, "Well what if you don't have access to the bathrooms? Everyone doesn't have one right next to their office and you can't count on having luxury water to flush with. In fact, you might not have ANY water coming in from the outside world and there isn't any bottle/boxed water in the kits, nor is there any food, much less enough to feed the people in this office for a week! Where are the tools to clear rubble or open stuck doors? You have one cheap pen light with dead batteries and a spare set of AA's that may or may not have a charge to them and a super sized first aid kit, a whistle, and a stack of papers telling you to calm down the victims but not HOW to do it and you feel this is a satisfactory 'emergency situation kit'?!?" I was met with wide eyed stares and the 'leader' of the safety department said to me, "Okay, smart guy. Say we just suffered an earthquake while you were telling us what we didn't have. What do you have that's better?" I could see he was trying to shut me up and I should have left it at that but... I pulled up my backpack from the floor and started pulling things out... "This is my paperwork for the job. It won't help much unless we need a fire. This is my jacket. I'll be warm tonight at least. Here's my backup flashlight, I can swap batteries with my e-cig if I really HAVE to. Ah, here's my main light source, my hand crank LED multi-light. Here's a half dozen granola bars I keep in case I don't have a chance to hit a cafe while I'm on duty. Here's 2 soda's, not the best hydration but it'll wash out the dust. Here's my bottle of Purell, multi-purpose disinfectant. Here's a few plastic shopping bags without holes. I can use them for sanitation if need be or as a bandage cover, binding material, plus a half dozen more uses. Here's my multi-tool to disassemble the table and chairs, door hinges, windows, outlet covers if I need the wires for rope... You getting the picture yet or should I keep pulling gear?" Everyone was looking at me like I'd grown 3 heads at this point. The safety lead was extremely annoyed (and red) and asked if I carried all that around every day or just for this meeting. I said, "No. On my days off I also carry my XD45 and a crowbar, but (My Anonymous Employers Name Here) considers them too dangerous to have around all of you no matter how much they might come in handy if there was a real emergency." I could bore you with how well THAT went over with them but I think you already know the gist of it. :D

On the plus side, I think they're going to re-design the 'floor captain' bags and include some better equipment including a hand crank light/radio, multiples of the cheap shake light (never underestimate the psychological benefit of personal light sources!), some boxed water and purification tablets, if not the ration bars, and crowbars they really need. I did drop ECF and our zombie forum's name during the meeting. I mean why the hell not? Even the CDC knows the zombie apocalypse in coming after all. :D

Nice whynot. Glad to see the Z-day prep is good in everyday situations as well as the Z-day. My Mother-in-law has been visiting for the last week (yay! me) and we have gotten into discussions on my SHTF bag. She lives in Florida so she should be used to having a Hurricane Bag ready, and I think once she gets back home, she will get one packed and ready now.

The SHTF's, EDC's, BOB's etc have a lot more uses than just for Z-day. With the anniversary of 9-11 coming up they have been playing a lot of twin tower stuff on TV and I seen one story of a guy that had a little pen light and he ended up leading a couple people out, with just the help of that small light.

I think all offices should keep those 5 gallon water coolers, on hand, well stocked and ready. A quick inexpensive trip to Harbor Freight would let your company build emergency captain bags, pretty cheaply, and get some of the equipment they need. If the building is more than 2 stories high, a rope ladder on each floor might be something to consider as well.

Like I was telling my MIL this week, my Zombie plan is a fun way of having a Survival Plan(s). We as a nation, are pretty lazy/naive people, always thinking that nothing bad will happen to us. No other country will try to invade us, the Wal-marts will always be open and ready for us to swipe our credit card, food is always available 24/7, water will always come out of the tap etc etc. People need to realize that bad things can, and will happen.

Like the old saying goes, I would rather have and not need, than need and not have.

Two thumbs up, Whynot, for letting your "safety lead" know what he really needs. Your co-workers might look at you like you have 3 heads now, but i guarantee that when SHTF, you will have a bunch of folks fighting to be close to you.

Jeebus H!!! I had a 10 hour day with 3 spent doing paperwork... Too many sick (physically and mentally) people running around... Those that weren't sick were just weird to the point of freaking out everyone who saw them (and then called us to 'solve' the problem). Everything from hit and runs on squirrels, dogs running around inside of buildings to actual medical emergencies plus a few fruitcakes running amok scaring the locals!

Is it Friday yet?

It's the comet ... messin' with people. I've been waiting to hear of/see the effects.

I finally ordered an Israeli gas mask, and it arrived today. Good thing is that my beard is cut in such a way that the mask seals perfectly around it.

Hearing of all the activity going on with Mount Hood has made me almost excited too ... that's probably not the right reaction is it?

I was just listening off and on to a radio show, and they were talking about how much movement and potential for eruption and quakes have built up in it. Our whole chain is really due for activity from what I gathered, but they were focusing on the peculiarities of Hood.

I didn't catch all of it, but it reminded me of my volcano dream, and made me work on a separate bag for my son to take to school with him. If the school doesn't like it, they can ... let's just say they wouldn't want to discuss it with me, LOL.

Ohh yeah ... and I can vape through the drink hose on the mask, not that it would be useful if I needed to use the mask ... it was just fun to try. :thumb:

I wish they would ... think they'll have a bake sale for masks though? I will make sure he has the essentials, and knows how to use it. He loves doing zombie prep, and now that we're on our own, we are doing more in relation to prep work, so I'm sure he'll be well prepared. He even has a bush out his back window that zombies like to hide in.

Ha. Our schools "required" each student to pay $50 for an Earthquake prep bag. It followed them from 6th thru 12th grade. I don't know what they did with them after the kids graduated...Each classroom had them stored in large bins, and parents could add pictures & notes to their kid's bag. I believe I wrote my kids a note saying to Question Authority and Run for the Hills...or some unorthodox parental thing...
It's good your child is on the look out for Zombies. Dads are good for teaching those special skills...

He was a bit "offish"? at the whole zombie thing at first, but now he embraces it. Being 12, and a boy, and an imaginative mind, it's pretty natural to him. Last time we were in the woods, he found a few really good locations, and he surprised me by how much he's taken out of the Dual Survival show. Almost brought a tear to my eye, LOL.

As for any emergency plan that the school has, we will be coming up with our own ... running to the hills is very close, LOL. I've got a few locations picked out, and we will be testing them out when I'm picking him up from school over the next couple months. If all goes well, he can jump in on the run, LOL.
