Ooo... so I can't delegate and I do home improvement. We often have these Jeff Foxworthy moments when I'm re-asphalting the driveway and he's playing World of Warcraft and feeling like a jerk because he's taken out the trash and I'm reasphalting the bloody driveway. But I rarely have plans that exist beyond what's in my head and those change... *
We have the dinner thing worked out -- I use a set of Dungeons and Dragons dice and a card. When he gets home and I have no clue what I'm doing for dinner, he rolls the eight-sided die for main protein (beef, chicken, pork, sausage -- usually chicken, eggs, turkey, beans, tofu) and a 6 sided for style (American, Asian, Italian, Mexican, Mediterranean, North African) and a ten-sided for the carb (pasta, potatoes, rice, couscous, barley, corn, polenta, quinoa, bread, roll again). I keep a number of recipes in mental storage and lots of veg and all of those ingredients in the pantry or freezer so I can usually put something together, or if we get a weird combination (Asian polenta never works) we can usually riff off the other two. But it took us six years to work out "What would you like for dinner?" is a valid question.
* Also, since I went back to academia, he makes about 3 times what I make, so I consider my economic contribution to the household to be in labor, not wages, and I have more free time.
