I also avoid the use of the word cigarette - I call it a Personal Vaporizer. Non-confrontational (and respect for others ignorance) is certainly the way to go. I just read in the paper today about a guy on a Continental flight being asked to stop vaping, he refused, they turned the plane around and landed to have the marshals remove the guy (Continental already has a corporate policy forbidding the use of personal vaporizers - FAA is considering it for all airlines). This kind of PR nightmare doesn't help our community.

Wow. There is a point that shouldn't be crossed. I vape everywhere under the assumption that it's not against policy. If I'm told it is then I'll gladly apologize and stop. After all I am on the property of others and it's only right to abide by the rules they set.

I always try to politely explain what it is and how it's not harmful, but they usually don't care. All they see is "smoke" so they don't like it.

I find the easiest way is to tell them it's water vapor (I know that's not actually true, but they're more likely to understand that water is harmless rather than propylene glycol), and then explain that it's no different than medical vaporizers and nebulizors, and that I'm using it as a way to stop smoking cigarettes that hurt myself and those around me. If you sound sympathetic to their health as well as your own, they're more likely to be ok with it.

It's my belief that one day we'll all be in the same boat. I know that the CASAA will fight to the bitter end, but big pharma and the FDA are very ruthless in taking out things they disagree with. I hope I'm wrong, but either way, I make sure to take advantage of the fact that I can vape anywhere.
I stealth vape a lot at work, and no one that happens to see me has a problem with it. One day i vaped beside this one guy and he said "You know even if that's not smoke, you're still exhaling 2nd. hand nicotine in the air"???? WTF??? Is that true???

I've pondered this, and came to the conclusion that it's possible, but unlikely. Considering that vapor particles are larger than smoke particles in the first place, I'd imagine that it wouldn't even make it to their lungs unless they're purposely taking huge wafts of your vapor on purpose. On the other hand though, I also suppose that the vapor could be absorbed through their skin, although by that point it probably would be a negligible amount of nicotine. Honestly though I don't know. Science isn't my strong suit. As far as I know, studies on second hand nicotine from e-cigs have never been done. In practice though, I've never had anybody around me turn into a nicotine fiend after being subjected to second hand vapor.

Next time, ask the idiot if he eats tomatos. He will be getting more nicotine from a tomato than what he could possibly get from your vapor, which from what studies I have read is basically, none.

The other week I was told by my new .... Mgr. that I wasn't allowed to vape at work. Even tho I started vaping there over a year ago, BOUGHT 3 start-up kits from there, and sold kits to cust that I coached about vaping. I am allowed to vape but I have to step in the back room. Funny no one ever had a problem with me vaping till he became .... Mgr.

I still go outside to vape, and I can even smoke in the building I am currently freelancing. I just ask. But in public places where I can smoke I vape. You often get some weird looks when using an XL ego-t/c batteries with mega dual coil cartos, but I could not care less. If people ask something I explain and redirect them to a good forum ... take a wild guess which one ....

I started with a black 510-t kit, and with the blue light it doesn't resemble a cigarette, but a bit harder to notice then an XL ego battery :).I passed the stage around 10-12 years ago to actually care about what other people think at all

I'm stuck outside with the smokers. No indoor vaping in New Jersey. I envy you guys that can vape in a bar.
I do it all the time in NY/NJ. I don't see why it should be a problem with anyone. Hell, I even do it in church without being yelled at. What part of Jersey are you in/near, DummyMe? (Only asking because maybe I could possibly help, depending on where it is that you want to be able to vape.) ;)

I had the same problem when I used to chew tobacco while working at Target. The first supervisor that was there said he had no problem with it as long as I spit into a bottle, instead of on the floor or in the garbage. The "new" supervisor, on the other hand, gave me some crap about "no tobacco use in the building whatsoever, even when one is not on the clock." I responded by not letting the new supervisor see me do it. I guess you could do the same thing with vaping at your workplace, if you want.
