As of July 1, my workplace will be 'tobacco-free' - no smoking, chewing, or dipping.

That is why I started vaping (after smoking for 25 years).

I finally decided to ask permission to use my PV at work. As it turns out, PVs have already been approved - even inside the office, BUT only with ZERO mg e-liquid!

What's the point? We have a 'smoking cessation program' and patches, gum, etc are approved. The wellness nurse said "just use a patch with the no-nicotine e-liquid".

Does this seem ridiculous to anyone else?

Yes, it's head-smack ridiculous.

I'd make up a legit-looking label stating 0mg nic. That is, if I wanted to be dishonest with my employer. And I suppose that would depend on how I felt about them otherwise.

Might be possible to explain to them, tactfully, how incredibly idiotic that is. My experience is that the mentality that comes up with those sorts of rules isn't usually interested in any objections, no matter how rational they are.

As a bit of an aside, there's one person that I work with (one of my subordinates, actually) that absolutely hates the fact that I vape at my desk along with the handful of other guys at work. I've tried explaining to them that's it's not a huge deal but they've pre-equated it to literally smoking.

In all honestly, I don't know how any rational person thinks that vaping is any different than patches, gum, lozenges or those weird nicotine candy looking things that Camel has put out. I mean, it's a nicotine delivery system, not tobacco...

More and more places are going tobacco free! Some employers are now testing for nicotine use as a pre-employment step! I hate to say it, but this seems to be becoming mainstream... hopefully vaping will be seen as the non-tobacco product it is.

On a side note, in the airline biz, this is the norm. Most airlines are adopting the policy that you can not smoke in uniform, even on yuor way to work before you are on the clock! I have seen employees get caught smoking in their car on the way to work (By being seen on the road by mgmt) and disciplined! When I worked for United Airlines, we were allowed to smoke in uniform, but the stipulation was..... We could only smoke in uniform while sitting down. You could get discipline points if you were seen smoking in uniform while standing!!!!

I think its just a control thing. :p

No rational person could think it is any different. Your subordinate is therefore irrational, and you should fire his ... at the earliest convenience. :D
