I'm taking a trip to Thailand from the UK and am looking for something to help me through the long flights and travelling as I feel I will be a terrible struggle otherwise. I smoke about 15 Marlboro Gold a day and would also like to give up at some point although I'm not particularly committed to that at the moment. I've tried those little inhalers you can buy and find the taste and experience to be pretty rubbish - you end up with too much nicotine and no throat hit or experience. I also tried my uncles old totally wicked e-nic he bought a couple of years ago and didn't use so he gave it to me. I don't find that great either - I find it too complicated to use and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and the hit isn't particularly satisfying.

I've met a couple of people whose e-cigs I tried recently that have a tank system instead and I found that much more satisfying although I didn't feel it was as good as real cigarettes - maybe that's just the wrong fluid for me. I find it quite harsh but in a way wheezy way that makes you want to cough rather than a nice satisfying heavy hit. I feel that could lead to me becoming even more addicted to nicotine as I'll be going through a lot trying to get the same satisfaction of cigs. I'm also concerned that they are so unregulated and anything could be in these fluids.

So I'm possibly looking for something that isn't too expensive, is easy to use and reliable and gives a good hit with a tank system. I was thinking of maybe the £25 totally wicked tornado v3 starter kit. It doesn't seem too expensive although a similar thing can probably be got for £10 on ebay like the Ce4 ego t 510 shisha pen. I was also informed by totally wicked that all the parts need to be regularly replaced including batteries - I kind of assumed that it would just last for years and only need to be refilled and charged. I also need to be able to smoke it on whichever airport and airline I choose whether that be in my seat or a cheeky undetectable 5 minutes in the bathroom. I'm not looking to invest heavily on something I may or may not like given my past experience with cigarette replacement alternatives. Are wicked fluids any good - I was thinking of their American Red as it's probably closest to my marlboro lights. What are 'the best' liquids and e-cigs? Are all e-cigs basically the same? I watched a good review of the innokin itaste vv on the e-cigs reviews site if that's any good.

Thanks,
Pete

Thanks for the replies. That's a bit of a nightmare as it would have been perfect. I guess some [edited] will complain no matter how accommodating you are of their neurosis. I guess the little nicorette sick could be an option but it's a pretty bad one - I still feel like I want cigs with it. I'm sure they can't impose fines for smoking e-cigs in the bathroom - it's not against the law just perhaps company policy. I'm not sure anyone would be able to catch you given the lack of smell and smoke. What are the cig-a-like devices mentioned?

With the CE4 how long is a 650mAh likely to last? It's just as expensive as the wicked one - could it be considered better in any way?

Which are the best liquids to buy for a realistic marlboro light/red taste/hit? Are wicked's any good?

I've had snus in the past but legislation seems to be making it very difficult to import into the uk. It's quite enjoyable but still doesn't come close enough to the feeling of smoking unfortunately.

Vapor in the bathroom of a plane can possibly set of the smoke detectors too. From what I've heard when this topic is discussed is that the detectors detect particulates in the air, not smoke exclusively.

If you really want to get off cigs with e-cigs, I'd suggest not limiting your new setup to something that's optimized for use on a plane. Just get something solid and for the flight, pick up some nicotine gum. That's worked for me in the past.

My last flight to BKK I took a cheapo cig lookalike and a mister spray. I wouldn't even risk taking a rig through onboard check in just in case it was confiscated. I would also visit the Thai visa forum and find out about buying there perhaps? I've seen a member on here with bkk location tag.

Was that the nicorette spray - any good? I might try and get some snus if I can find somewhere that ships to the uk reliably. Out there i'll just smoke real cigs - it's mainly for the flight. I guess I could get a cheapo ebay ecig so if it gets confiscated no big deal. I don't suppose there are any vapourless ones that still give the same taste/hit/effect are there?

Yes it was the Nicorette spray/mister. A small green bottle with a mint type flavour. You can get them in superdrug in the UK. You'll probably get them in most chemists like Boots or similar. I think it was about 17 notes...not cheap but lasts quite a while. Also I read yesterday that Heathrow has a vaping lounge in terminal 4!
The one thing I found was with the mister I kept getting hic ups LOL. I left the one I had in the hotel back there. At that time I was still smoking. See: NICORETTE® QuickMist Mouthspray | Nicorette
Also regarding testing liquids... in some shops they will have a counter where you can sample any of the stocked e liquid. They have an ecig and just put on a disposable tip so you can try them. UK Ecigs have that at their shop near the national football ground.
I don't know what the laws are in LOS but brief reading online seems to suggest that nic liquid may be illegal there though I know you can get it.
Good luck!

I'm another one that does not tempt fate. I know it's a very long flight, and I've taken a few when I was still a smoker. I made it work with nicotine lozenges and gum (the quit-smoking aids). I just had no desire to raise *any* red flags. Just my opinion (take it or leave it as you will), but raising absolutely no red flags (or even the allusion thereof) is my priority during international travel.

Don't land yourself in a Thai prison, my friend. If you've seen that funny movie Hangover 2, I'm sure it's not so funny in real life. Good luck!

While it is the policy of virtually all US airlines to prohibit vaping on their flights, it is not illegal to vape. This is not a minor difference. Illegal is when the plane lands and the police come and escort you off, policy is when the flight attendant tells you stop doing something. I stealth vape on air planes when I travel. Even sitting next to me you would have a hard time knowing I was vaping, and certainly it is not disruptive to anyone, no vapor, etc. If I couldn't vape without making a cloud, then I wouldn't do it. And I can tell you that the bathroom detectors haven't had a problem with my vapor either. It's all about being respectful. I think I accomplish that. YMMV.

I've flown that long haul route maybe 50 times including HK during the last 30 years. I can remember the days when you could smoke on the planes lol. I can't tell anyone to risk a sneaky vape in the bog. In the early days I would have a two puff cig down the toilet pan whilst flushing as it draws some serious pull. Its an average 11 - 12 hour flight if your non stop from the UK. I've vaped a cheapo corner shop bought lookalike ecig when they turn the lights out (and the slobs are all sleeping) at the end in the passageway near the toilets as you can't be seen and they all go to sleep and nowadays they turn them out as soon as the staff can (Thai airways has gone downhill lol). You have to weigh the situation up when you are inflight.

Its up to you basically.
