Atomizer is the part that heats up the liquid and produces the vapor, it has a small filament in it like an old lightbulb. Sooner or later it will burn out, I had one go bad in a week (my fault, didn't let it cool down), some report months (I've head 6+ in some cases) of use. I've learned that taking 3-4 good puffs, then give it 30-60 sec to cool down before puffing makes them last a lot longer. I've also started cleaning them with alcohol (search here, few threads on it) about once a week.

batteries are rechargeable and I don't foresee one dieing anytime soon.

PG/VG is all about throat hit, vapor production, etc. Right now I'm on 80PG/20VG mix, got some 70/30 coming soon too... also done pure PG. Some people have an allergy to PG, in which case 100% VG is the way to go.

What kit you going to get? I've got an eGo and think it's great, but haven't tried any other brands yet.

Ha! That's totally me! I've become a vaping evangelist. :)

If this works for me and gets me off analogs, i will become a vaping evangelist and spread the gospel of vape-ianity.

I will echo the others when I say that vaping definitely is NOT smoking, but it does satisfy most of the things that you love the most about cigs. Personally, I think vaping is 100 times more enjoyable than smoking now that I've found my 'sweet spot' with juice and equipment. Keep in mind that you'll most likely want to vape different juices at different times during the day. I love a good coffee flavor in the morning (for obvious reasons), a nice fruity flavor or vanilla during the day, and a more dessert or tobacco flavor in the evening. And you may surprise yourself...you think that you couldn't 'smoke' anything that doesn't taste like tobacco plus 4000 chemicals, but when you realize how much 'cleaner' vaping is, you're sure to change your taste and mind.

Also remember that most cigs (not sure about NJ or NY) have those stupid Fire Safe Speedbumps in them, which contain glue and all sorts of nastiness. When I quit and went to vaping exclusively last week, I actually itched all over my body for two days, and I think it's from the new chemicals they put in the fire safe speedbumps. Just don't give up if you feel crappy and weird for a week when you start vaping...your body is getting rid of TONS of chemical buildup and your body will be getting more oxygen, so you may be a bit dizzy/spacey/lightheaded. I'm almost 9 days in now (OMG, I HAVE to go to bed!), and I'm just now starting to feel absolutely amazing. :)

Anyway, I'm happy that you're gonna give it a go. There are so many great people and such wonderful support on these forums...there's always someone here to help and cheer you on! And if you need inspiration, go to this thread that @texastumbleweed started: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-life-change-when-you-vape-instead-smoke.html

Good luck and welcome! :)

Changed my life and it will change yours. It might not work at first or it might work. Alot of people quit on day one. Either way if your willing to keep at it trying new juice and finding the PV that's right for you then I think you will like it. I didn't quit as soon as I got my kit. I wasn't satisfied with vapor production so I got a better PV. I wasn't satisfied with the flavor so I kept ordering from different vendors. Now I'm analog free it took a while but I made it.

Even though I wasn't satisfied with my first go around I knew that if I could tweak the experience I knew it would work.

Just do it and good luck.

Thanx for your input. Regarding getting extra atomizers....what do you mean "when your last one is dying"? Isn't the atomizer rechargeable? do i have to keep buying new ones? or do you mean they break after some time? Forgive my ignorance i just recently found out about ecigs and this site so i haven't done a whole lot of research yet. I'm so glad i found this site though, cause i almost bought one of those expensive trial offers, but thankfully i came across this site right after and got some good info.

i can't wait to try vaping. i'll take your suggestions and purchase my kit tonight. I'll do some searching on the e liquid and go to the websites suggested by other members. i just went to one and now i gotta learn about the whole vg pg thing. i noticed on vapor bomb that there is a vg/pg mix selection. i have no idea which to select. Is that just a trial and error thing? should i get different mixes to figure out which i like best? does that mix affect the flavor or something? i'm heading for the library here and learn more. i'm really itching to try it. If this works for me and gets me off analogs, i will become a vaping evangelist and spread the gospel of vape-ianity.

I know there is a lot to learn, but you are doing great. The atomizer is the heating element part. If your vapor tastes bad like it is burning, you need more juice on your atomizer. If it gets too wet and gurgles or you get juice in your mouth, take off the atomizer and blow any excess juice into a paper towel. I killed lots of atomizers in the beginning but now they last longer because I've learned how to manage them. I rarely clean an atomizer but every once in awhile, I will sit one up on a paper towel over night to drain.

You might end up surprised by the juice you end up loving. I like a PG/VG mix. You will establish your own tastes over time. Plan for the possibility to find juice you love and run out of in a day. Also there will be juice you vape once and throw into a drawer. You will dig it out in a month and try it again and love it. You will reorder the juice you loved and try it again and hate it.

I smoked marl red, 2-3 packs a day and I wanted juice that tasted just like my analogs. My favorite juices are strawberry or bakery cinnamon mixed with fruit flavors. Oh and waffle. I never liked to eat waffles, but I'm nuts for waffle ejuice. Go figure.

PG - thin, carries flavor well, good throat hit, less vapor. VG - thicker, tons of heavy vapor, flavors are muted. I like PG 80%/ VG 20% personally. I never go over 50% VG because I like strong flavor and throat hit. With no VG I tend to flood my atomizers.

Best of luck and let us know how you are doing :)

I think the biggest challenge is finding a good e-cig and a good e-liquid. I smoked for 30+ years and have now been just vaping for a little over two months. I went through 5 different brands of e-cig's before finding one that would last (battery life), produce a good hit, and all that good stuff. If you don't want to waste a lot of $ on different units, read lots of reviews and seriously look into the Riva and the Ego. Then you'll just have to find the e-liquid that works best for your taste. You'll love the change in the end, so give it a shot!!

In answer to the original question, " do these ecigs really taste and satisfy like regular cigs?"... my answer would be 1) no, and 2) oh, not just yeah, but HELL yeah!

I still remember getting my first kit. It was one of those overpriced rip-offs. I really needed to quit for health reasons, cost, etc., and was just praying that this would be 'it'. I opened it up, charged the battery, put it together. Took a few puffs.

It tasted like crap and didn't do anything for my craving. I set it down, had a few cigs. I came back to the pv, thinking, I spent all this money so I might as well give it another go. A few more puffs. Still crap.

What that lovely fly-by-night operation didn't tell me was that the atomizer comes from the factory with a packing liquid that's really nasty, and THAT was my first experience with vaping. Ew. Just Ew. But I came back to it a third time... and I started to taste and feel something...

Puff, puff.... getting stronger... puff, puff.... omg, OMG!!! (Here's me at that magical moment)

Then I managed to wander in here. Yeah, so I got "taken" the first time around... got a 510 now and I love it... but you're ahead of the curve compared to most. You found ECF!

Yeah, that eGo kit looks good, and I second the advice about getting lots of small bottles of different juice to try, extra attys, etc. You'll be surprised at what you like and don't like... I smoked a pack and a half of Camels and/or American Spirits for 26 years, 8 months, and 7 days. 4 months into vaping, and I hardly even touch my tobacco flavors anymore. It's amazing.

Good luck, and happy vaping!

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS!
excellent post...and yes, i could see a day when cigarette smoking is "passe" and truly a thing of the past, if vaping really catches on.

Your kit sounds perfect. (I have one just exactly like it and it's served me well for a couple of months now.) The juice question: 24mg. sounds about right, and the amount is probably about right, but I would suggest getting several little 5ml bottles of different juices instead of just one or two big 30ml bottles. That way, you can 1)try out different flavors and nicotine levels, and 2)you won't waste a whole bunch of juice if you just hate it.

I personally suggest (and so will others, I think) that you order your juice from an American company that the people around here know and trust. Some of that Chinese (deKang) juice is not the best. There are several vendors on this site that the people here swear by for juice. One of the most popular is VaporBomb.com. Also there's FreedomSmokeUSA and www.tastyvapor.com. There are others...scroll down to the vendor section of these forums and any vendor on that list will be okay. Again....order several little bottles instead of one big bottle. Or some of them have sets of samplers you can get. I would get one or two with 24mg. of nic; maybe a couple with 18mg; then see which level "scratches your itch" best. I know you want Marlboro flavor right now....and I guess after reading this thread you know you're prob. not going to find anything that tastes like a dirty ashtray (sorry! Couldn't resist).....but they have some good tobacco flavors. The "Wyatt Earp" from freedomsmokeusa is good. But.....just for kicks, order something other than tobacco....at least one. When I want a fun vape, I use Blueberry. When I want something that tastes not sweet (more like a cig) I vape a coffee flavor or a nutty (Peanut Butter) flavor. It's all very subjective and you'll find your way, just don't invest too much in one particular juice until you know if you like it. Also....your taste buds will change: what you like at first may not be your favorite after a week or two, so save your juices....your taste buds may come around and something you hated at first will be wonderful one day.

I smoked for over 40 years and truly never thought I'd quit. But this is so much more pleasant in so many ways. And if you have health problems......OMG, you just have to give this a try. You will be surprised....I consider it a miracle, I really do. Good luck and keep us informed of what you order then tell us what you think. You know this many people can't be totally wrong about these. None of us works for these companies....you're getting absolutely honest information from the people here. Welcome to the forums.....I'm so glad you found us. And if you'll notice, this site has over 40,000 members.....this is not just a handful of people trying to tell you something. These are new, but they're catching on more and more. If the government will stay out of it and not be stupid about these, I can see a day when THIS is the norm and cigs are gone. Just my 2 cents. I don't want to sound bossy or like I'm telling you what to do, but sometimes you just want someone to say do this then do that. You'll find your own way soon. Again........your kit looks great. I have a pink one, by the way.

Oh...I agree, maybe a couple of extra atomizers if you have the money. And extra cartridges (carts) can't hurt. You can re-use the carts over and over, but extras are cheap. And the start up cost may seem steep (although not compared to how much you're spending on cigs! I live in Oklahoma and they're only around $5.00 a pack here.) but after you get your kit, then the cost is basically just juice for awhile.

You could just do the 50/50 to start with. The PG (propylene glycol) gives you a little more throat hit and flavor, the VG (vegetable glycerin) gives you more vapor. Lots of people choose 80PG/20VG.......I like more VG....even have several juices from Vaporbomb that is 100%VG that I love. It really is personal preference, but 50/50 will be a good place to start.

I smoke about a pack to a pack 1/2 a day of marlboro reds. I just learned about these e-cigs and am really looking forward to trying it. I just find it so hard to believe that they would satisfy as much as a regular cigarette. When you take a drag, does it feel like a regular drag/pull as you would get from a marlboro? Does it have the same burn/throat hit?

If these feel like a regular cig and satisfies the nic craving, i will be so psyched to be able to switch....not just for health reasons but due to the expense. I live in nj/nyc area and the prices just went up. Yesterday i bought a pack for 12.00 in nyc...ridiculous!

For those of you who just switched, please give me your honest input as to whether they satisfy as much as a reg. cig. and if you found the transition easy and quick.
thanx

I smoked 2 packs a day myself. Since I ordered my e-cig 4 months ago, I got my on-line after MUCH research, I haven't touched a cigarette since.

Is it the same, no not really. Is it better, well yes its healthier by far. I really like my E-cig or personal vaporizer as some like to call it. I love all the flavor options and all the things you can get for an e-cig..like a USB passthrough and stuff. I certainly love the money I am saving too.

All that said, I think there is a downside though. That would be I think I vape FAR more then I smoked, I don't know if its because I get less Nicotine per drag, or I just really like the taste or what. Maybe it's because i know no matter how much I vape, it still won't cost me anywhere near what I spent on smokes, and I know my house and clothes, breath and everything else won't smell either.

So all in all I think although not quite the same, It definitely works for me. Only advice I can give is do your research and get a good one. I got mine at Vapor4life.com. But as you can see from the forums here there are plenty of places that you can get good ones from.

i ordered an ego...it's on its way and should be here any day. the juice is here already. i got a bunch of juices with different vg/pg mixes. i took your advice and got the 80/20 mix since i think throat hit and flavor would be my preference, but i also got some 50/50. got a couple of nic levels too but mostly 24 mgs cause i currently smoke about a pack-a pack 1/2 per day. i wonder if too high of a nic level would make someone sick? have you ever heard of that happen?
as for the atty burning out, i will take your advice and give it some time to cool off. i also ordered an extra atty just in case.
I have 2 questions that i keep forgetting to ask:

1. every time i vape a full e cig, do i have to keep dripping in the liquid into the atty for each one i vape?
2. how long does one full e-cig vape last...i.e how many puffs do i get out of the 2-4 drops of juice? does it last the same amount of time an analog would?

It might be a bit too high for you, or it might be just about right.

But if it is too high you will know it for sure.
Too much nicotine will give you a headache and probably make you feel a little nauseous.

Most people feel that 2-4 drops of juice is about the equivalent of a cigarette in regards to the number of drags.
Although in regards to the amount of nicotine you get, it is probably signicantly less.
