I heard a commercial on the radio today, it was an advertisement to use hypnosis to quit smoking. This got me to thinking about all the things I've tried in the past to try and quit.

So I was wondering, what else have you guys and gals used in the past to try and quit smoking?

I've tried the gum, and it was horrible and worthless. The patch worked slightly, but not for long. So I tried other things people would tell me helped them, like sunflower seeds, suckers, and I can't even remember what else. They all had one thing in common, none of it worked.

Patches, gums, lozenges. No NRT worked for me for any amount of time. My hand to mouth addiction is far stronger than my nicotine addiction.

Wellbutrin- worked for over a year. Nasty split up and divorce and I went back to smoking.

Chantix- did not make me want to kill anyone, gave me awesome dreams and I quit smoking for over a year. Stress once again led me back to smoking.

Pregnancy/cold turkey- quit smoking with my pregnancies but returned to smoking within a few months of the birth of my children.

vaping is it for me. I hated smoking but vaping gives me everything I was addicted to in a pleasurable way. I'll never smoke again.

I had a pack of cigs in my purse at the delivery room! As soon as I was discharged I had that pack and a bottle of Chardonnay at the ready!

Gum, patches never worked for me (although the gum was better than the patches). Meds, Zyban did nothing, and Chantix made me lose the desire for coffee instead of cigarettes . Totally unacceptable. Did the hypnosis thing (nope, no good) and acupuncture (lots of little holes all over me but no help on smoking). Figured I'd keep smoking to the very end.

I tried patches, then hypnosis, then welbutrin, then patches and welbutrin at the same time, I then tried zyban, then acupuncture, then chantix, then back to patches and welbutrin.. then I gave up.

Then, I found vaping..

I never tried gum because of my teeth..

Chantix made me deathly ill.. I lost the desire to both eat and leave the bathroom on chantix..I can't remember if I wanted a cigarette while I was curled up in a ball on the bathroom floor.. lol.. I don't suppose I was on it long enough to find out.. haha

The only thing that worked for me was having a stoke and permanently losing vision in one eye.
Then the neuro-opthimoligist told me there was, within 5 years, a 50% chance of losing vision in the other eye.
Hmmm...better quit smoking... So far so good, 4 years later.

A company I used to work for gave us free Chantix through our health insurance. I never used it, because of all the horror stories of the side effects, and everyone I know who did use it, would quit smoking for all of two months, then, like clockwork, would go right back to smoking. I've spent half my life on anti-anxiety meds, so I knew that wouldn't work either. I was determined this year to quit, and I worked with a guy who vaped, and he helped me get started. And I'm glad he did.

I have a friend Chanitx worked extremely well for. He hasn't gone back and it's been 5 years. Even when I smoked around him. Some folks get lucky and find whatever works. Vaping did it for me. If someone else finds a good way for them, they should go for it. It doesn't matter how you get off the cigarettes, it's just getting off them that's important (although vaping is way more fun than gums or a pill).

white plasticy short bubbled like tube thingies in early 90's (can't recall what they were called but, it was like inhaling pure air and were worthless), nasty gum, patches (these actually made so sick i puked brown crap for a day and i could not move both my upper arms above my head for months afterwards without shooting pain) and cherry tablet thingies.. After smoking for 16yrs, i actually successfully quit smoking back in 97 using orange slices cut in half. i put the orange slice in my mouth with peel in front of my teeth like a mouth guard and chewed on slice everytime i got a craving, 3 days later i was orange slice free with amazingly no nic cravings whatsoever. i lasted almost 5 yrs off smokes after that, than the husband at that time made life extremely stressful and i went back to smoking in late 2002. oddly the oranges did not work again the next time around but, thankfully vaping only has for almost 5yrs this june and it is nice to know i won't relapse back to smoking if things ever get that stressful again.

I tried gum, patches and lozenges multiple times each, cold turkey also (but it was too difficult to keep burying the bodies). Wellbutrin, Zyban from my doc, but as soon as I quit the meds, I was smoking by the end of the week. Had a kidney removed for cancer, and it was a wake-up call...found vaping and never looked back.

I'm coming up on 7 years smoke free after 40+ years of constant smoking. I'm down to 10mg from the 36mg I started with, and don't want to chance any further reduction, every NRT program only lasted with me as long as I got my nic everyday. Take that away and I was smoking again.

Chantix and Zyban. I am exaggerating that they both made me want to kill myself, but I can see why it makes some people suicidal. Absolutely evil horrible stuff. I DID quit for almost 4 years with Zyban, but the side effects were almost not worth it.

Gum gave me instant headaches, so I couldn't use that.

Thank god for vaping or there is a 100% chance that I would still be smoking. Same with my wife.

I quit smoking to start a family. The timeline is foggy but I used welbutrin alone for maybe a year before I started smoking again. Then I used welbutrin with the patch. Started at the highest level and followed through down to the lowest. I stayed at home after my son was born for almost a year. After being back at work for less than 3 mos I started smoking again.

When I started to lose my voice, I decided to try something different and started vaping. I was a dual user at first and this June it will be two full years of no smoking. Not one cigarette, or one drag, absolutely no cheating whatsoever. Yay!!
