What exactly does the function recovery hole button do on e-cigars?

What does this function recovery switch inside of the hole on some e-cigars do? I have a Bling and the booklet says to stick something in there for like a few seconds every few weeks if it's ever not functioning right.

First off, what would happen to it to make it not work right that could be fixed this easily? And what does this thing do to supposedly fix it? You'd think the instructions would tell you why you are pressing it and why you should have to...

It's a bit like the auto clean sequence on ordinary e-cigs, turns the atomiser on to burn off the gunge. I'd only do it as a last resort and then make sure there is juice dripped on the atomiser first.
