If I was a betting man I would say most of that dry hit taste is juice that is burning rather than vaporizing.
And that is because there just isn't enough juice at the coil to keep the temperature from elevating too much and too rapidly.

If your device is using silicon wicking material that stuff does not burn, so it isn't that.
But I suppose there could be some sort of taste coming from the overheated coil wire as well.

The local shop sells AW batteries for 14 bucks I'll pick a couple up. Funny you should mention efest. I put one in my pocket and it touched a quarter and it started sparking up in there so I tossed that thing like I was in 'Nam and that thing blew up! (well all the acid quickly squirt out!

definitely pick up the aw's, they are a little pricey, but they're (rightfully) considered the best and safest batteries that you can use for an apv. you can get them cheaper online, but the extra few dollars to get you started right away is worth it. once you have a couple, two great places to order some more are:

AW IMR 18650 2000mAh LiMN Rechargeable Lithium Battery

was the efest that blew up a high-drain, unprotected imr? if so, THAT is exactly why you want to use this type of battery - an icr is much less forgiving if it fails...

Oh yea I know about that but didn't know the term for it. I can't get the legs to not glow on my 2 wrap single coil lol.

Once you've armed yourself with a good multi-meter for measuring resistance and a deeper understanding of the limits of your batteries the key (or at least one of the keys) to minimizing hot legs is to make sure that both the positive and negative legs are the same length. This will go a long way to eliminating the hot leg issue.
