I think I know what you guys are referring to, but just want to make sure...

On occasion I'll get a flavorless hit, which is all "throat hit" but nothing else...at times it can be too much, and is always unwelcome...but they happen rarely...

I usually let my juice "soak" into the wick for 10mins or so instead of priming...what other causes are there of dry hits?

Thanks

Dry hits are dumb. I hate that, I stay away from cartos for this very reason. Everyone says that cartos have more flavor...personally I don't see how unless the flavor is coming from the melting of the polyfill. To each there own. I like tanks. I can see how much EL I have left and very rarely do I ever get a dry hit unless I'm smoking in the dark...which is just weird. Byyeeee!

I have found I get dry hits when I use those multiple thin wicks clearomizers, and too much watts (2.5Ω and 5vdc thru a USB bypass rig)

I found that the coils are wound TOO tight around the wicks...if I take and spin the wicks, gently tug them and even get one of my wifes sewing needle pins and gently loosen the wick inside the death grip of the coils it more or less eliminates the dry hits...OR I use a head that has a single large 3mm wick I rarely get dry hits (on thinner juice some times I get the gurgling/popping)

Some people use the "kanger wick fix" and gently pull out a few of the strands of the wick to allow it to pull more juice thru easier

Even a "dry hit" tastes better than my last cigarette. heehee Welcome to the forum. Lots of wonderful people here. Good luck to you and I look forward to reading more of your posts. I still have a lot to learn.

When you get a burnt dry hit from a cartomizer you have to throw it out--the filler is burnt and the carto is dead.

If you get a dry hit from a fillerless clearo--add more juice (when applicable) or take a few primer puffs without activating the battery to force the juice onto the coil and to remove any air bubbles. Clean or replace your coils often.

Dry hits can be eliminated by priming, it only takes a few seconds to do. Cover the air hole and puff without hitting the button. Or you can do the swirl by tipping the tank and soaking the wick. I don't really use carts anymore, I prefer the clearomizers personally, and gave my e-cigs to a friend to try. Some clearomizers will give a dry hit, but this usually only happens when I get the ones with the multiple wicks in em, if it happens alot carefully remove all but one of the wicks. If you use the sealed clearomizer units that you cannot rebuild, you can actually clean them out to remove buildup which can burn and give a bad taste. Fill with hot distilled water, then shake vigorously. Drain and repeat until water comes out clear. Dry completely, then do a dry burn before refilling them. I've also found that some juices can occasionally give a dry hit or a burned flavor as they are not fully mixed and something gets hot enough to burn so try to use only quality e-juice or mix your own, cutting some commercial e-juices with VG (vegetable glycerin) also helps I've found, but will gunk up your mizer more quickly. Also avoid or clean more frequently if you use very thick/sugary juices. You will have to experiment and find the reasons and solutions but it isn't difficult and you will learn alot about your equipment.
