Okay I get that it's for safety and turning your Mech mod into a VV but other than that does it have another purpose?

You're on the right track here. It is VW, not VV, but that's a minor point. It does have safety features built in, which are great for safety but also limit people using sub-ohm coils. As you know it regulates power, so by definition your vape will not change while the battery voltage reduces as it discharges. That's it, but this does completely change the mechanical mod vape experience. Hope this helps.
